From Manny A732279 10 Month Old Male Staffordshire Terrier

Manny is a super-cool people & 10 month old male American Staffordshire Terrier that arrived as a stray on 11/10/24. After his stray hold when no owner came forward Manny was neutered and placed available for adoption. Unfortunately, after his neuter surgery his 'whoozits' and 'whatzits' got infected turning Mr Manny into Mr Miserable :( It's taken several weeks of additional surgeries & limited exercise for his wounds to heel up, but even through all that pain Manny has continued to sport a grin the size of Kentucky :)

Bear A728076 9 Months Old Staffordshire Terrier French Bulldog Mix Needs Rescue By 12/13/24

Bear is an approximately 8 month old male Staffordshire terrier mix was originally impounded on 9/3/24 following a level 3 bite/skin break (tooth scraping drawing blood w/no visible punctures) to a landscaper while tethered alone inside a dumpster enclosure within a business complex. When Animal Control Officers arrived alleged owner for dog 'Bear' arrived stating he is an unhoused individual who confined dog inside trash area so he could purchase items at a convenience store. Unhoused party stated he acquired dog from another unhoused individual, citing party claiming ownership was uncooperative with Animal Control & Police Officers to divulge additional information or formally release custody. Due to circumstances related to impound, 'Bear' was processed as a stray with unknown owner for quarantine. Bear was easily able to be impounded by officers without incident, following quarantine Bear exhibited positive socialization with other people and no displayed aggression towards other dogs allowing him to be eligible for special needs adoption with waiver.

Bear was previously adopted on 10/24/24 but returned the following week due to exhibiting leash reactivity and/or fear aggression when taken to a softball game day following adoption, adopter reported Bear barked and lunged towards a group of male bystanders approaching them causing adopter to be uncomfortable with Bear interacting with people and other dogs. Bear has displayed severe barrier reactivity which the shelter has not been able to resolve or decrease through counter conditioning and enrichment. Bears prior skin break, adoption return status, and increasing barrier reactivity have prevented any further placement opportunities at the shelter. Due to continued declining behavior / deterioration in kennel Bear needs rescue by end of day Friday December 13th 2024. Darby and a handful of other dogs at Long Beach Animal Care Services got to meet Santa early enjoy some yummy snacks & tell St. Nick how good they've been this year, and everyone's was to find a caring . While everyone wishes every dog would find a home, staff & volunteers would especially like to see Darby enjoy his 1st Christmas ever with a caring family. Darby didn't have the best start in life as a pup, his owner at the time didn't have any housing and was given a hotel room to stay in through outreach assistance. Unfortunately, even though Darby was allowed in the room his owner would leave him tethered outdoors... And at his young age things went from bad to worse when he got sick and was needed help. Darby is a very friendly young dog that enjoys spending time with people and other 4-legged dog friends. Everyone hopes Darby's wish to Santa comes true very soon!

UGH. This poor girl is not your routine 'stray dog' and if she is only 4 years old, those years have not been easy on her :(

This girl has been given the name 'Glitter' at Long Beach Animal Care Services, likely as a result of the bedazzled pink glitter collar she arrived with. Aside from the obvious scars on her, she was found with multiple fleas & some ticks on her, very swollen feet. 'Glitter' is very shy & a little timid, but mostly just trying to recuperate from everything life has thrown at her the past few years.

Helping Shay The Small Not Be So Shy With Morris & Rhonda

Shay arrived to the shelter on 11/30/24 after being found the day before Thanksgiving stranded alone at Recreation Dog Park. Shay arrived an overall easy going carefree young man, with the finder reporting the same with Shay enjoying his time in his home while trying to locate his owners. Sadly, the shelter setting can abruptly change a dogs disposition, and Shay is a prime example. Shay is experiencing a dramatic change in behavior since entering the shelter being growly in kennel, nervous and avoidant at times with staff/volunteers, and spending most of time in kennel hiding under hit cot. Shay is not doing well at the shelter, and the continued time there is of no benefit into him improving. I'm sure Shay would LOVE to be out of and back into a home to enjoy his time comfortably with a family.

Emerald is a very sweet young female Pit Bull that was allegedly found off Dairy Ave. the day before ... it's ironic she was left on Dairy Ave. considering she clearly just finished nursing a litter of puppies :( Although it's always a shame to see irresponsible pet owners are still continuing to breed illegitimately and tossing out mom once they've cashed in, her trip to at least gave her the honor of getting spayed and off the market for low-lives and only for a safe place to call home. Her ears may be cropped and her belly may sag, but that heart in her chest still has noting but love :)

Buddy needs some-buddy to make him their own special buddy

Buddy was picked up by Animal Control Officers on 11/7/24 after his owner (who was homeless) left him with another person to watch over temporarily, shortly after he was left with the new person he caused a very minor bite/skin break to the tip of the persons knuckle when they when to grab something near his head. Once that occured offiers were called to pick up a dog that 'broke skin' near the beach with no owner to locate. Unfortunately the shelter had no owner information to follow up with, only knowing the persons first name & that the dogs name was 'Buddy'.

Helping Shay The Small #SiberianHusky Not Be So Shy With Morris & Rhonda #CanWeGetAPlayBow Shay arrived to the shelter on 11/30/24 after being found the day before Thanksgiving stranded alone at Recreation Dog Park. Shay arrived an overall easy going carefree young man, with the finder reporting the same with Shay enjoying his time in his home while trying to locate his owners. Sadly, the shelter setting can abruptly change a dogs disposition, and Shay is a prime example. Shay is experiencing a dramatic change in behavior since entering the shelter being growly in kennel, nervous and avoidant at times with staff/volunteers, and spending most of time in kennel hiding under hit cot. Shay is not doing well at the shelter, and the continued time there is of no benefit into him improving. I'm sure Shay would LOVE to be out of #DoggyJail and back into a home to enjoy his time comfortably with a family. HI! Buddy needs some-buddy to make him their own special buddy Buddy was picked up by Animal Control Officers on 11/7/24 after his owner (who was homeless) left him with another person to watch over temporarily, shortly after he was left with the new person he caused a very minor bite/skin break to the tip of the persons knuckle when they when to grab something near his head. Once that occured offiers were called to pick up a dog that 'broke skin' near the beach with no owner to locate. Unfortunately the shelter had no owner information to follow up with, only knowing the persons first name & that the dogs name was 'Buddy'. HI! Missy A476755 12 Year Old Friendly Senior Female Pit Bull Needs Rescue Now No Later Than 12/08/24 Missy is a 12 year old senior female that was picked up by Animal Control Officers as a stray on 11/24/24, she arrived with a microchip from prior instance of being out as a stray and redeemed in September of 2012. Missy displays a very sweet & docile temperament at shelter; however, she suffers from hind leg ataxia, a stiff & weakened gait, some small masses, and mild urinary incontinence. After several attempts the shelter was able to make contact with Missy's owner who redeemed her in 2012, unfortunately communication records state party on file has denied claiming ownership of animal in question. Treatos With Doggos Fievel A730461 Friendly 5 Year Old Male Pit Bull Mix Ready To Find A New Place To Call Home Fievel is a 5 year old male pit bull that was found near the #EastSide of Long Beach wearing a very worn soft muzzle. Based on the missing fur and indentation line above his nose, it's clear he has adorned the muzzle for a long time and likely was owned by someone in a community housing living situation. Sadly, Fievel's mom & dad never showed up to claim him & he was very heartbroken about it 🙁 Fievel initially arrived very upbeat enjoying pets & scratches (especially the butt scratches), but after his first night in #DoggyJail that tail went right down in between his legs and has been very scared of all the noises and commotion that goes on at the shelter. BUT it sure is good to see Fievel has perked back up as he waits to find a new place to call home 🙂 Now Fievel has a new problem that the shelter can't solve on their own, he's desperate for routine daily interactions with people :( Sadly, the shelter is seeing too many lost and unwanted pets arrive EVERY SINGLE DAY which makes it IMPOSSIBLE for staff & volunteers to satisfy the basic needs for EVERY PET in their care. #PlainAndSimple Fievel NEEDS A HOME.
