Morris is a friendly puppy that arrived as a stray with another dog (Tallulah A728509). His mastiff friend arrived with signs of parvo, needed rescue, didn't find it, & was sadly euthanized 🙁 Morris had to go on isolation for several weeks to make sure he didn't display any signs of parvo & was given the in October being in good health. Just when you thought Morris might have caught a break, he came back from isolation ward and contracted giardia 😐 BUT, Morris is and has already proven what an amazing dog he is now that he can enjoy some yard time with other 4-legged friends

This young female German Shepherd has been given the name 'Lassie' at the shelter, she was picked up by Animal Control Officers after they were alerted to a dog that appeared to have recently had puppies abandoned in the parking lot of Golden State Humane Society. While everyone hopes this isn't the case, it appears likely someone discarded their 'Puppy Pez Dispenser' after they cashed out on the litter

Bear A728076 8 Month Old Male Staffordshire Terrier Mix URGENT Needs Rescue

Bear is a 8 month old male Staffordshire terrier mix that was impounded on 9/3/24, he was involved in a minor bite to a landscaper while he was tethered alone inside a dumpster enclosure within a business complex. When Animal Control Officers arrived the alleged owner of Bear arrived stating he is an unhoused individual who confined dog inside trash area so he could purchase items at a convenience store. Bears owner stated he acquired dog from a friend that is also unhoused, Bears owner then became uncooperative with Animal Control & Police Officers to divulge additional information. Due to circumstances related to impound, Bear was processed as a stray with unknown owner for quarantine. Although Bear has presented himself as quite friendly with both people and other dogs, Bear is currently on 'urgent' status and can potentially be upgraded to red-list should his behavior decline while at the shelter.

Lucas A713619 5 Year Old Male Siberian Husky German Shepherd Mix

What better day than to remind everyone of the big white at Long Beach Animal Care Services named Lucas :) Lucas arrived to the shelter as a stray on 1/21/24, allegedly found on the side of the 710 FWY off ramp near Pacific Coast Highway. Lucas entered the shelter with some moderate alopecia to his back, very dirty ears, & some broken teeth... while the shelter isn't able to repair those broken teefers, a healthy diet & routine ear cleaning when he arrived helped resolve the bulk of his issues.

Lucas has been at the shelter a little over TWO HUNDRED NINETY DAYS!!! Not only is his 10 Month just around the corner, Lucas is quickly approaching AN ENTIRE YEAR AT THE SHELTER (seriously, wth!) Lucas arrived very friendly and receptive, sadly over time he has become more depressed in kennel and appears to just be when staff & volunteers take him out for exercise... While he still has his moments of enjoyment (as seen in these recent clips), he needs out of the shelter & he needs to find his place to call home ASAP. We have a little over 2 months to help bust Lucas out of and get him off to his FURever home, so let's all do Lucas a favor and share his story!!!

#ShelterSpotlight Lucas A713619 5 Year Old Male Siberian Husky German Shepherd #Shepsky Mix What better day than #HugaBearDay to remind everyone of the big white #TeddyBear at Long Beach Animal Care Services named Lucas :) Lucas arrived to the shelter as a stray on 1/21/24, allegedly found on the side of the 710 FWY off ramp near Pacific Coast Highway. Lucas entered the shelter with some moderate alopecia to his back, very dirty ears, & some broken teeth... while the shelter isn't able to repair those broken teefers, a healthy diet & routine ear cleaning when he arrived helped resolve the bulk of his issues. Lucas has been at the shelter a little over TWO HUNDRED NINETY DAYS!!! Not only is his 10 Month #ShelterVersary just around the corner, Lucas is quickly approaching AN ENTIRE YEAR AT THE SHELTER (seriously, wth!) Lucas arrived very friendly and receptive, sadly over time he has become more depressed in kennel and appears to just be #GoingThroughTheMotions when staff & volunteers take him out for exercise... Besima A731271 10 Month Old Female Dutch Shepherd Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix Urgent Needs Rescue By 11/01/2024 Besima is an approximately 10 month old female Dutch Shepherd Rhodesian Ridgeback mix that was picked up by Animal Control Officer on 10/26/24 as an injured stray dog between Anaheim St. & Lewis Ave. possibly hit by a car and bleeding. Milo A725634 1 Year Old Male German Shepherd Mix #LastCall PAST-DUE & Needs Rescue Or Adoption ASAP Everyone was hoping someone would be able to lend Milo a hand... but with his time up and no one stepping forward it looks like the closest hand he'll get is a shake for a treat Milo originally arrived as a stray on 7/27/24 & adopted by his original finder early August as a 'foster to adopt' so Milo could recover from upper respiratory infection prior to be medically cleared for neuter surgery. Milo had noted reactivity/insecurity issues with other dogs when he arrived, with possibility of being related to bite wound located on his ear that appeared to be a fairly recent injury. Milo would prefer to be avoidant with other dogs, became defensive during interaction attempts, but calmed down & has been able to mingle with other dogs in mild interactions when the other dogs stopped initiating play. Milo was returned on 9/13/24 due to becoming aggressive towards the child in the home shortly after his neuter surgery. Milo's finder/adopter tried to find an owner for several weeks and cared for Milo before bringing him to the shelter, on initial release to shelter as a stray finder stated in the 'animal finder form' that Milo was very friendly with adults and children in the home. Milo has displayed increased kennel stress and has become barrier reactive towards people and other dogs visible from his kennel. Due to in-home behavior presented by adopter upon return and declining quality of life at shelter Milo needs rescue or special needs adoption by 10/18/24.
