Show B (Lindsey Vaught): Acacia was BOS

Show C (Andy High, ARBA Standards Committee member): Northwoods Merlot was BOS

Congratulations to Lana Westerfield for Best of Breed wins with Jethro and Habanero in shows B & C this weekend!

Big weekend at the Texas RBA state convention! It was great to see so many bunny friends as well as meeting a few new ones. Northwoods Acacia was Best Opposite S*x under Judge Danny Long on Friday and an honorable mention for BOS under Judge Randy Shumaker on Saturday. Congrats to Lana for Best of Breed with Churro -- thanks for letting us borrow him!

This is a harlequinized opal doe, a rabbit exhibiting coloration halfway between true opal and blue/fawn harlequin. (Check out the "ghost" harlequin markings on her belly and tail.) This is not a showable color in rabbits but can be used in breeding programs; one would pair with several options including tricolor or broken orange or cream.

Castor, opal, amber, lynx, and chinchilla rabbits can all carry the harlequin gene, which is an example of incomplete dominance; two genes combine to produce a result somewhere in the middle, like mixing black and white paint to make gray.

Our first buns from Pichu and Bonsai are 10 weeks old, and definitely in their gangly adolescent period. However, because Bonsai shares some common ancestry with Pichu, this litter is a little more consistent than some of our prior litters have been.

Solid Velveteen weekend at the Southern Roots Rabbit show in Longview. There were FORTY FOUR youth and open Velveteens on the table Friday for the specialty show, which exceeds the entries at ARBA convention the past two years. Huge thank you to the SRRCS for hosting us and Misty Polasik for judging our specialty show -- she gives the best comments and was so kind to our Velveteen kids.

Bayes (broken cream buck) and Fauna (orange doe) took home Best of Breed and Best Opposite this weekend. Not a lot of brokens on the table but our sweet tri does Eevee and Xatu placed Best Opposite of Variety to Bayes.

Pichu helped some friends with crafts. 🤭
