🌟Here is little Axl, a 14wk old Boxer mix puppy and he is completely deaf. During his first couple of Training Lessons he is already learning to sit, lay down and go to his bed. His focus is amazing and he learns very quickly with hand signals and quick delivery of food rewards! 💯Obedience Training using positive reinforcement methods R+is not only essential for all dogs but is so engaging and enjoyable for both the human and the dog! 🐾❤️ Deaf dogs are not difficult to train, there are just some specific priorities and for a deaf dog to be able to predict outcomes with behavior… now that must be a relief! 💕🛹⭐️

CANINE COMPANION TRAINING Student Highlights!

Meet Cocker Spaniels ⭐️’s Poppy, Paisley and Oliver!

1. Here they are practicing impulse control and ‘Sit’ at the front door with mom who is being consistent with expecting this behavior!
2. Using high value food rewards selectively and with good timing is the key to successful repetitions.
3. The front door can then become an Environment Cue for the dogs which will prompt them to offer the Sit behavior for the real life reward of leaving for the walk!

Are you familiar with the Canine ‘Ladder of Aggression’? This is a useful tool to help you become more aware of a dog’s body language and how a dog is feeling emotionally.
“The Ladder of Aggression is a depiction of the gestures that any dog will give in response to an escalation of perceived stress and threat, from very mild social interaction and pressure, to which blinking and nose licking are appropriate responses, to severe, when overt aggression may well selected.”
Learning first to recognize, then how to help your dog feel better about a situation or, at the very least, how to diffuse the situation will prevent aggressive behaviors from escalating. Some dogs skip a step and escalate more quickly as they have been punished previously for a particular behavior (e.g. growling).
“Contrary to persistent misinformation, the gestures identified are nothing to do with a purported dominant or submissive state relative to companions. In all dogs, inappropriate social responses to appeasement behaviour will result in its devaluing and the necessity, from a dog’s perspective, to move up the ladder.”

Great information!

This is the first time a study has specifically investigated whether early puppy training ( less than three months of age) presents clear advantages over training at a later age, in terms of the subsequent development of adult behavior problems.

The study involved 641 owners and 1,023 dogs that had enrolled in a training program. Most all of the dogs included were reported to have exhibited at least one type of behavior problem.

The researchers found:

🐶No significant difference in the age of puppy training and the subsequent development of behavior problems
🐶Aggression, compulsive behaviour, destructive behaviour, and excessive barking were all reduced in dogs that had formal puppy training before six months of age
🐶Puppy training based on reward-based methods substantially reduced the odds of aggression in adult dogs
🐶Punishment-based methods increased the odds of aggression.
🐶More frequent use of punishment is associated with increased aggression and excitability.
🐶The use of punishment when training dogs is related to an increase in both fear and aggression.

...And these are some of my favorite toys 🎾 Meet Bernedoodle puppy Bolt! She is 5 months old, very smart and highly sociable 💕 Bolt is learning all kinds of ways to engage with toys of different shapes and sizes. It is so important to teach a dog training games and provide interactive play. This is for many reasons including redirection of puppy biting, building the human canine bond and for self entertainment purposes as seen here ;) 🐾

Let me introduce you to Newman! ❤️🐾 He is a 16month old English Bulldog and a current training student. His mom was told that he was ‘untrainable’ but now Newman is getting professional help to build his confidence around new people and loud noises outside as well learning all the foundational obedience training exercises. Newman moves very quickly when he is motivated and will run to his bed (Place Training), Sit, Down and will even perform a Recall with a Hand Targeting exercise! Awesome job Newman & Family! 🌟
