I hear about so many people who get piglets that have lived in a barn away from people. For these piglets, there is a huge transition when they are brought in as a house pet. It's stressful for everyone involved.
So, l'd like to ask those who have adopted my piglets that were born and raised inside my home with my family... How was the transition for you? Was your piglet pretty comfortable from the beginning or did it take a few weeks to be able to touch them, hold them or even get close to them?

Question:
What should I have on hand to be ready for my piglet?
Answer: Closed off 4×6 area
Mini Pig Food (make sure it is not Hog food)
Bowl non tip
Litter box
Litter (We use washable p*e pads)
Small bed
Blankets (Good Will has lots very cheap)
Treat toys (Amazon has tons)
Cheerios (used to help them warm up to you
Heating pad
We send all of our piglets home with a blanket, toy, welcome packet and some food.

I have been hearing a lot of really good things about this food. I am going to test it and see if it helps with piggy rust.
I will keep everyone posted on our results.
I am hopeful because it costs 14.99 for a 50 pound bag at Tractor Supply. Mazuri costs 19.99 for a 25 pound bag.

It took some time because of these extreme
temperatures we have been having in Ohio (It's way to cold to ship). But I am thrilled to announce that Bo Duke has found his forever home!!! A very sweet girl from only an hour away has decided to make Bo a member of her family. I am so excited for him!! He is going to be so loved!!! Thank you, Emily!!

Question: What is the best way to bond with your piglet?
Answer: It's important to give your piglet space for the first few days. Don't pick them up or force them to do anything like go for a walk or take a bath. It will take time for them to learn to trust you. Food will help!! Sit on the floor in their area and coax them over to you with Cheerios.

As they get more comfortable with you, they will begin climbing on your lap. Soon you will be able to pick them up. Always hold them securely in a way that doesn't cause their feet to hang free. Scratching their side may help them feel comfortable.

They may nibble at fingers if they are scared. Always correct this behavior. Hold their snout closed and say NO. They learn quickly. Like and follow our page for more tips✅❤️

Question: Why do most breeders raise piglets in a barn?
Answer: Most breeders raise pigs in a barn because it's much easier!! A litter of piglets and their momma are a lot of work.
When the piglets are weaned, most breeders will bring them inside and begin potty training and socializing. But by this point the piglets are 6 or 7 weeks old. So they are inside for a week or two. What can you teach in that amount of time?? Not much.
I bring my momma piggies in the house to give birth. That way I am able to keep a close eye on everyone. Because my piglets are potty trained and socialized from birth, they make amazing companions and house pets. They are used to everyday house hold noises and activities. They don't squeal for attention because we teach them from a young age that that isn't acceptable. Our piglets love being with people.
Don't get me wrong, it is an enormous amount of work. But I think it's worth it in the end because who wants a piglet that has lived in a barn??

Question:
What if my piglet bites me?
Answer: Pigs naturally learn about the world by putting things in their mouth. So they will bite on things. (Keep all cords up out of reach!) But it is unacceptable to bite people! We start from the time they are born teaching them that biting is wrong.
That being said, when a pig goes to a new home, they are scared so they may bite as a way to protect themselves. If that happens, correct quietly and kindly. They need to know it's not allowed in their new home too.
How this is done...
As soon as they nibble on your finger or toe, gently hold their snout shut and say NO firmly. Do this every single time they bite you. They learn very quickly so if you don't correct, they will keep doing it. It may be cute from a baby but it's not cute from an adult pig with adult teeth. So teach them young that you are in charge.

My boys love these piglets!! They have each picked a favorite and I let them name them one of the flower names I picked out.
Preston named the black girl Magnolia.
Jp names the pink girl with more spots
Petunia.
That leaves the pink little girl with less spots as Poppy.

I love watching our piglets change and become more comfortable with us. It's quite a bit of hard work to make sure they are social and enjoy human interaction. My boys help so much!.

Our Flower Litter had been learnt so much! They are so smart!! They are litter box trained - no accidents for days. They do very well in their crates. Harnesses are being tolerated. They finally enjoy being held and cuddled by us. They don't startle as easily and climb all over us.
It's so much fun to watch them grow and develop into their own little personalities.

Our beautiful
Flower Litter had their first vet visit today.
Our vet is fantastic!! They are extremely knowledgeable about pigs and I trust them 100%! is the absolute BEST veterinary clinic! We are so fortunate to have such wonderful people taking care of our pigs!

Meet Phoenix
Phoenix is our little runt of the litter. He is so tiny!! But don't let his size full you.

Phoenix has a big personality. He is very calm and already enjoys being with us. He is a big cuddle bug and he can usually be found at the bottom of the piggy pile.

He will be fixed, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and vet checked. He will also be socialized, litter box trained, crate trained and harness trained.

We are having so much fun with this litter!! We have never had a litter this big so it's really different.
It's going to be a challenge to socialize so many but I think we are up for it!!😊
