New Jersey Schnauzer Rescue Network Generally the required donations for our senior and special needs dogs are lower, while the adoption fees for our younger and healthier rescues are higher.

Since its creation, NJSRN has had a single mission: Finding permanent, loving homes for Miniature Schnauzers and Schnauzer mixes throughout the northeastern United States.http://www.njsrn.org/ Adoption donations typically range from $50-$600:

Age 10+ years: $50-$150
Age 8 - 9 years: $150-$250
Age 5 - 7 years: $250-$350
Age 3 - 4 years: $350-$450
Age 1 - 2 years: $400-$550
The adoption fee for al

l puppies is $450-$600. In some cases the puppy may be too young to fix, and there will be an additional $100 refundable spay/neuter deposit, which will be returned upon veterinary documentation of altering. We have a special "Senior for Seniors" program, in which the adoption fee is waived for a senior citizen adopting a senior Schnauzer. Occasional dogs may have slightly higher than average adoption fees, depending on circumstances and our expenses. The adoption donations listed above represent the range: the exact fee will vary depending on the dog and our costs. Please feel free to ask about the specific donation required for a dog of interest. All dogs adopted from NJSRN receive the following:

Veterinary examination;
Spay/neuter;
DA2PPv and Rabies vaccinations;
Treatment for worms and intestinal parasites;
Heartworm test;
Dental cleaning and extractions, if needed;
Urinalysis to detect potential urinary tract infections and bladder stones; and
Bloodwork, if necessary. If the dog has any other medical needs, they also will be addressed. We will have the dog microchipped, if possible, and it will be groomed or shaved down if its coat is very matted. The dog will also be evaluated for temperament and a determination of the type of home that is best suited for its needs. The value for all of these services is more than $450!! Adoption fees are donations to New Jersey Schnauzer Rescue Network, not payment for value received, and are based primarily on the age, health, and temperament of a particular dog and our expenses. Please understand, NJSRN is not a shelter, and we are not subsidized - most shelters receive municipal funding, while NJSRN operates entirely on adoption fees and donations. All of our members are volunteers, and none of us receives a salary or payment of any kind. Every dollar we generate through donations or adoption fees goes toward the care of our dogs - primarily for veterinary expenses, plus a small amount for grooming, board, and occasional shelter fees. Volunteers usually pay the costs for transport, fostering, dog food, phone calls, postage, printing, and adoption screening out of their own pockets.

Hi everyone!

You might have noticed that our page is being hit with a lot of posts that are completely unrelated to NJSRN or our mission. Several of the sites being promoted are ones that NJSRN would not recommend. Other messages just might not feel right. We’re doing our best to find and block the people doing this, but please be cautious if you attempt to follow any of their links or to engage with any of these folks. If you see something that seems a bit odd, please message us so that we can check it out. Thank you!

Hi all

We are inundated with incoming Schnauzers - old, young, male, female, in shelters, from homes, coming in from NYC, MA and NJ. We cannot help them unless we have foster homes available. The need is urgent. As always, any help you can give for any length of time is greatly appreciated. I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you in advance.

We are still looking for the right home for Max!

Max is an 8 years old, beautiful, mainly black Schnauzer. His is a sad story. For his entire life, he was the devoted companion of an older couple, who now, can no longer care for him. Their daughter, who wants what’s best for him, couldn’t keep him because she already has two big dogs, and they all didn’t get along.

Max is sweet, affectionate, great on walks and crate trained. He is also completely house trained, and not destructive when left alone. Max would love to find a relaxed, quiet home with loving owners and could possibly go home with another well-matched dog friend. He can be anxious when meeting visitors for the first time, but when given the space to meet them at his own pace, he loves almost everyone! Anyone who chooses to adopt this handsome fellow will be making the best decision EVER.

Max has lost sight in his one eye and has been examined by an ophthalmologist, while in rescue.

The perfect home for Max is a quiet home, without children and someone who loves to take frequent walks. We are looking for an experienced owner who will work with Max and get him comfortable with visitors and meeting strangers on walks.

If interested, please submit an adoption application at https://njsrn.org/adopt/adoption/. Any questions, please contact Deb at [email protected]

Meet Wepa, the adorable youngster with the funny name. Wepa was originally an unclaimed stray in Brooklyn NY that was adopted by a family who had no idea what Schnauzers are like. Despite loving him, they were ill-equipped to handle his robust Schnauzer personality. Wepa had two main issues – he hated other dogs and would let out a screaming bark when he saw them on the street. Luckily, his AMAZING foster providers worked diligently to turn Wepa into a wonderful, well-mannered dog. Don’t let his cuteness fool you, his adopters will have to continue the work that’s already been started but he’s worth it! He now loves to play with his foster dog siblings, and walks well on a leash. Wepa is only 14 months old, has tons of puppy energy and curiosity, and is also a lovebug. We’re looking for a stimulating and experienced home with at least one other dog and maybe some kids to play with.

If interested in adopting Wepa, please complete an application at: https://njsrn.org/adopt/adoption/

It’s been another busy adoption day for NJSRN as these beautiful ladies, Emma (left) and Bonnie, joined their new family. JoAnn and Greg are previous adopters and couldn’t stand being “empty Schnauzer nesters”. Happy life to everyone!

This was a special adoption day for us. Stevie was picked up as a stray in Brooklyn and he must have been on the streets for a while. He could barely walk because his nails had grown into his pads. But now, thanks to Donna, he will live out his life being loved and having the company of his "sister" Lucy. Stevie is the perfect example of why we do rescue. Happy life Stevie and many thanks, Donna! ❤️

Is anyone looking for a challenge with big rewards? JoJo came into Rescue in 1/24. This poor guy is so anxious and terrorized of men. It took a few weeks to get him out from under the dining table because he felt safe there. But he is now coming for treats and pets from his foster Mom but is still very much afraid of the man of the house, even though he has tries so many different ways to endear himself to JoJo.

We are looking for a female only household, with a fenced yard (JoJo LOVES to run in his yard), no children, and a lot of patience.

If you are interested or have questions, please contact Deb at [email protected]

Happy new life for Pitaya (which means dragon fruit in Spanish)! Pitaya was found on the streets of Cancun Mexico and taken in by a local rescue. She was adopted but the dogs in the household didn’t get along, so she came to us. She is a playful and friendly girl and it’s obvious that her new family is smitten with her!

Update - Squiggy is now home and is very happy! After a call with her family, NJSRN got the correct story. Just like us, they want what's best for her. We are thrilled that she will live out her life in a loving home that is familiar to her. It's obvious from the pictures that she knows and loves Stephanie.

Thank you all for your offers to help.

There’s been some controversy since Squiggy came into rescue. We created this plea based on the information we were given. If Squiggy’s owner’s situation is not how we depicted it, we apologize but that’s what we were told. The shelter asked us to get a 14-year-old dog ASAP because she was not doing well in the shelter environment. We immediately started making phone calls and emailing until midnight and then picked up the next morning at 8 am to get Squiggy as quickly as possible. You were all wonderful – volunteering to transport, foster and even to adopt. This is what we do. We drop everything and put our lives on hold to help these dogs. So please remember that when you are ripping us apart. We now understand that a family member is hurting, and we are sorry and hope she gets the help she needs. But I hope you also thank us. Squiggy is now in a safe, comfy home, being pampered and out of the shelter. We did make a difference in her life.

URGENT - We are looking for a foster home in NJ or NYC area for this poor, confused 14 year old little girl. According to the shelter, Squiggy was roaming the streets for 2 weeks before she was picked up and brought to them. Why someone doesn't take their dog to a shelter, instead of just opening the door and kicking her out is just beyond awful. Understandably, Squiggy is not doing well in the shelter environment and needs to be a home. Please contact Deb at [email protected]. Please help her!

Meet Mia! Mia is the most wonderful 2, about to become 3, year old. She is adorable and the absolute perfect dog in the house with her family. She loves playing with other dogs (small dogs, she's afraid of large dogs), affectionate, loves walks, LOVES zooming around a yard (I get the impression that she never had one before) and is just a typical Schnauzer. But it turns out that she's a "Covid Dog" and was never socialized. She's not dominant - doesn't guard food, toys or her people - but is fear driven when people come in the house.

She has a lot of stranger danger and barks wildly when people enter the house. She will run after people and nip at them. Of course, she needs training in this area and also needs to build up her confidence and see that people are fun. Training will be offered.

We are looking for either a new adoptive home or a foster home that will work with her. The home MUST have another well-adjusted small dog, no children and a fenced yard. She needs a quiet home that will keep her calm. Above all, we need someone dedicated to training.
