I had no idea today was International Guide Dog Day when Angela and I planned the Remarkable Pawsibilities zoom intro this afternoon. It's kind of cool though. Let's celebrate International Guide Dog Day with coming together to bring more guide dogs to more people who want them. Everyone is welcome, whether you're just curious, want to help, have questions or are thinking of your future and a multi task trained guide dog, we'd love to meet you this afternoon on Zoom Here's the original announcement: You are invited to learn more about Remarkable Pawsibilities!
A group of people interested in starting a guide dog probram began talking in the late summer of 2023. We wanted to create something unlike anything currently available and serve people who were not able to get guide dogs from traditional programs. We are still in the very beginning stages of creating Remarkable Pawsibilities, but we are making progress in our mission to get multi task trained guide dogs to people who are blind with additional disabilities. We have a lot to decide, plan and implement, but would like to invite you to learn more about what we are doing, ask questions and share your ideas.

Who: anyone interested in guide and service dogs, those interested in volunteering, and anyone interested receiving a multi task trained dog in the future

Only 3 weeks to go! My On The Go shop in the Blind Mice Mega Mall will be closed as of December 20. If you want things in time for Christmas I'd suggest ordering by the 15th. I'm completely out of a lot of things, extremely low on some things and limited inventory for the rest. Things that I have left include: small bowls, pick up baggie holder, harness handle signs, biothane leashes, biothane collars, paracord leashes, paracord collars and lots of pink straps for bells! A reminder that the Zoom Q&A for the guide dog owner training class is this evening. The deadline to enroll is July 23, 2023. The class will begin on August 8, 2023

Owner training a guide dog is an incredibly rewarding endeavor, but it is also a huge commitment of time, money and energy. We want to support those individuals who are serious about pursuing owner training a guide dog.

This class is for blind and visually impaired individuals interested in learning more about owner training or those who are in the process of owner training.
Included in the class are 8 teaching sessions, 1 intro session, handouts and ongoing support through email.
Topics covered in the class include:
*evaluating personal needs
*selecting a dog, including discussion of breeds, rescue, breeders, health testing and temperament
*puppy socialization
*public access skills, concerns and responsibilities
*introduction to the harness
*guide skills beginning with forward and ending with traffic training
*navigating the transition from in training to trained guide dog
*blindness skills and alternatives used in training

The cost is $150. The class is limited to 6 participants.
We are hosting a Zoom Q&A on Tuesday July 18. The class will be explained in more detail and we will answer any questions.
