One of Leah's puppies, Hudson, just competed at the Dalmatian Club of America National Specialty in Georgia and earned High in Trial Jumper with Weaves! We are so thrilled for handler Lauren and Hudson. They are a great team. Here is a recent action photo with Hudson's speed ranking and his win photo.

Max and sister Leah both had CAER (eye) exams at the Whidbey Island shows last weekend. Both tested normal. Even better, the veterinarian doing the exams remarked that they had "fantastic" temperaments! Here is a photo of Max finishing his Gold Championship. We are so proud of him. What a good dog!

This week we said goodbye to CH On the Spot’s Some Like It Hot CGC RE. Sugar was bred by the late Bonnie Rose, who said she was one of the best dals she ever bred. She was a great companion, and mom and grandmom to some great pups. We miss her greatly. Rest well, sweet Sugar.

Max showing in Best of Breed at the National Specialty in Washington. We were too busy working behind the scenes on the companion events to be able to enter any of those, but at least we got to participate in conformation and hang out with some good friends for a couple of the days we were there.

Sweet Leah has returned to us in the Northwest. While we plan for her future, we decided to enter her in a dog show to see if she remembers what to do. She did great, getting awarded Best of Opposite S*x. Her tail was constantly wagging. Good girl, Leah! Here is Leah as a puppy, relaxing, stacking. She is such a flexible, athletic dog with lots of drive, plus a very easy keeper without a lot of demands. She loves pretty much everyone and appreciates attention.

Five Years Old Today! Where did the time go? Happy birthday to the Overcomer Litter! Here is a cute puppy photo of Ember, Leah, and Max. Following are their microchip registration photos sent to me for their birthday today: Max, Raffi, Leah, and Ember. I have been very proud of this litter and their accomplishments, even with the COVID issues we have all been through. Max and Leah are now parents themselves of a couple of really nice litters. What good dogs.

Cricket was just informed that she placed 5th in Dalmatians last year in Rally Excellent and Advanced under the Front & Finish rating system. It must have been our trip to Montana that gave her the points because we didn't show much last year. Good girl, Little Crick! Here is Cricket (a) resting on her laurels, and (b) doing a recall on the ballroom carpet at a National Specialty. I have no recent photos of her actually doing Rally.

Happy 12th birthday, little Cricket! She is still going strong and enjoying life!

The new year is starting indoors in front of the fireplace for Sugar, Cricket, and Ember. The ground has been covered with snow since Christmas Eve, which was the last time we left the house. Temperatures are chillingly cold. But now the welcome rain is back again and we are planning to get out and back to work tomorrow. Yes!

It's as close as we have been to a real dog show since January 2020! It has been so fun to watch the show and visit with friends we haven't seen for awhile. And little Cricket earned a Triple Q in Rally, and we got a couple of photos of Max with his handler. The show has been pretty well run with quite a few vendors present.

The sun was out today and most of my work deadlines were under control, so the girls and I headed out to Meadowbrook Farm to run some tracks. Plus, it was little Cricket's 11th birthday! Sugar did much better today as far as distractions versus her last track. I left an extra couple of articles early on the track in the first 200 yards and she warmed up well, finishing the last part especially with focus and drive and pulling hard. She passed the final article by 4-5 feet, then spun around and indicated it with certainty. Good job, Sugar! Cricket showed her up, though, pulling hard and fast with accuracy on her entire track. Fantastic, Cricket! Ember backslid a bit, being distracted by the game scents new to her. This field was littered with elk hair and droppings and hundreds (at least) of mole hills, so quite a challenge. We will be back here again to continue her training. Still, it was so nice to get out into the fresh air. The girls returned home for a nice long nap.

It's a sad day at SeaSpecs Dalmatians. Yesterday afternoon little Skookum lost control of her almost 17 year old body and so the decision was made to let her cross the Rainbow Bridge today which she did peacefully. She was the only pup out of my Flojo and Julia Soukups' JLS Just a Fig Newton and the first puppy I ever bred. Back then, I had been studying pedigrees and wanted to go back to KMax Law and Order lines which seemed to be behind the best obedience Dalmatians in the country. Quite by accident, I ran into Julia showing young Newt at the Portland specialties and found out his pedigree contained the individual I was seeking. So, plans were made and little Skookum indeed turned out to be exactly what I wanted for the performance sports I enjoyed. In the obedience classes, she had a nice prance when she was heeling. In agility she was drivey fast, able to blast through the weave poles and ran with a growl in her throat as if she were attacking the course. Out in the tracking fields, she could sometimes practically pull my arm out of its socket as she pulled really hard once she learned that mole hills were off limits. She obtained one of the first VCD2 (Versatile Companion Dog) titles for a Dalmatian in the country for her participation in the three major AKC sports available at the time. To the very end, she was my constant companion through the best and worst of what life has to offer. But life will not be the same without her. Rest in peace, little Skooks.
