We have some exciting news! Thanks to a very generous donor, we will be starting a new program to encourage the adoption of senior dogs and cats from shelters in Sullivan County! Details to come, but the donor will help cover costs for non-routine veterinary care to help offset the costs of owning a senior pet. Message us for more details of this exciting new program!

We’re having a fundraising yard sale and need donations of new or gently used saleable items (no clothes or shoes). The event will be October 1st in the Eastman parking lot off Wilcox Drive. All proceeds will provide low to no cost spay and neuter surgeries for pets belonging to local residents that need a little help from us!! So start gathering unneeded and unwanted items! We will have a drop off location published for the weekend before the sale. Message us if you have any questions!!

30/07/2022

We’re having a yard sale!! We need donations of high quality sellable items (no clothes) for the big event scheduled for October 1. So start saving your stuff, and ask friends and family to do the same. I will post the location to drop off the items the week before the sale. Every dollar raised will go to support spay and neuter surgeries for deserving local pet owners that otherwise could not afford to provide that kind of care for their animals.

Public Service Announcement:
You can work AND keep your dog 😊

Know what? Dogs sleep 12 to 14 hours a day. Get a camera. Guess what your dog is doing while you're at work? Sleeping! They'll sleep with you at night and while you're at work. So that dog you just "rescued" 6 months ago while you were teleworking and now you want to get rid of because you have to go to work - great news! You don't need to. He'll sleep while you're gone and be ready to play when you get home. But he deserves someone who is home with him? Wait, you mean someone who doesn't work? Guess what? Those people can't afford to take care of him. He loves you and he's fine with you earning money to feed him.

Carry on. Go to work. Keep your dog!!!

Keep up with your flea and tick medication! Spring will be here before you know it and these creepy crawlers and jumpers will have their radar honed in on our pets!

This is a tick that was fully engorged on a dog and fell off. It was put in a ziplock bag and we waited to see what happened to show you all. It’s been in the bag for 2 weeks with no air flow and started to lay eggs about 5 days ago, continuing to do so even still today. Imagine not knowing this was on your animal and it fell off in your house. You’d have 1000’s of baby ticks. GROSS! Please make sure your animals are currently being treated with flea and tick prevention. We know how prevalent they are in our area.
Update: we have had questions about a repellent to use in addition to regular preventative. We recommend this natural product: https://amzn.to/2CqvV9Q

It’s Giving Tuesday! We rely on donations to provide spay and neuter financial assistance to deserving residents of Sullivan County. Every dollar goes toward the cost of reducing the population of unwanted and abandoned pets in our area. And the financial stresses of COVID-19 has made the need in our area even more dire. Please consider supporting our cause - no one in our organization gets paid a dime to run and manage our organization- we are just a group of passionate volunteers with a love for animals and our community. Any amount will help! No animal should wind up unwanted and unloved in a shelter or on the streets. You can help us make a difference! $50 will support one spay or neuter.

Please help fund a community spay/neuter clinic!

18/11/2020

We have a special request for donations this holiday season. Our organization is partnering with Petworks, the non-profit animal shelter in Kingsport, to provide low cost spay and neuter services at the new facility on Stone Drive. Everything is set up - a special room and all the equipment and supplies needed to get started immediately. Unfortunately there is no money to hire a veterinarian to perform the surgeries! Your help and donations are needed to fund the professionals needed to get this so desperately needed service for our community underway. With a veterinarian on staff, we will be able to offer faster,o more affordable or hopefully even no cost spay/neuter assistance to deserving Sullivan County residents.

Please give what you can afford. Share this with your friends, family, and local businesses to help get the word out. We can help thousands of families and their pets with this one simple act of kindness! You can make a difference in the lives of our four legged family members! Our goal is to reach $100,000, and with your help, we can get there.

You can donate through Facebook, or go directly to our website www.sullivancountyhumanesociety.com if you prefer.

We appreciate all the support from our community of animal lovers over the years, and can’t wait to get this new service started for Sullivan County!

Please join us next Monday, August 24th, at 3:30pm right here on Facebook Live! Our staff and Project Manager will be walking you through and answering any questions you may have! See you then!

It’s Giving Tuesday! We hate to beg, but now more than ever we need your help to support spay and neuter assistance for low income area residents. With the high level of unemployment due to Covid-19, the need is greater than anyone could have imagined. If we don’t act now, our shelters will be overrun with puppies and kittens that could be destined for euthanization. Our community will be overrun with abandoned or neglected animals that owners can’t afford to care for.

If more pets are sterilized, there will be fewer animals for shelters and rescue groups to try and manage. Please help if you can - any amount will make a difference!

This baby was born and immediately infected with feline leukemia in a household that could not afford to spay or neuter or their pets. We estimate there were at least 25 cats on the property. Sadly, he only lived 9 months, with the last few spent desperately trying to alleviate his suffering by his foster parents. You can make a difference - please support our mission! We are a 501(c)3 ran exclusively by volunteers that care for the welfare of pets.

We wanted to let everyone know that the foster puppies have been adopted! A wonderful family with children will watch them grow up and be part of their lives and their family. Thank you to everyone for your shares and your wonderful comments! Our group made it possible to find them a great home!

Several dogs have died outside of their homes and one Pomeranian didn't survive after being dumped outside a shelter.
