The Dalles Riverfront Dog Park We are working to create a riverfront, off-leash dog park in The Dalles, Oregon. We need your help!

22/01/2021

~ Does your dog like playing in the water?

~ Does your dog enjoy meeting friends?

~ Does your dog love to chase tennis balls or Frisbees?

~ Does your dog ever wish that you'd take off the leash to let them run free?

~ Do you wish you could meet more dog-enthusiastic people?

The Dalles Main Street is partnering with the Port of The Dalles to create The Dalles Riverfront Dog Park, our community's first off-leash dog park right on the banks of the Columbia River. The Port has offered Main Street space for the park, but we have to maintain and grow it, and for that we need your help.

With the arrival of the new year, you have the opportunity to help bring The Dalles Riverfront Dog Park to life. We are off to a great start, but we can create this wonderful place for you and your four-footed best friend only with your sustained help. Each week we will post another opportunity to show your financial support for The Dalles Riverfront Dog Park.

Below is a list of quotes for work, materials, and supplies needed for Phase 1 of the park to be completed in 2021. Please consider looking over the list and partnering to meet these goals. A small gift of $20 will provide your dog an all-natural place place to run free. To contribute, please call The Dalles Main Street at (541)370-2966, or click the Donate button in this post.

Thank you for considering joining us in the dream to create the first off-leash river-accessible dog park our town: The Dalles Riverfront Dog Park.

In tonight’s meeting, the Port Commission voted unanimously to approve the Dog Park proposal and directed staff to begin discussion with The Dalles Main Street to make this vision a reality! We did it!

16/03/2020

The Dalles Main Street is currently developing what will be Downtown’s most pet-friendly attraction: The Dalles Riverfront Dog Park! Conveniently located on the Riverfront Trail between the cruise ship dock and Marina, and near your favorite Downtown destinations, The Dalles Riverfront Dog Park will offer a fun place for dogs and owners to splash and play together.

As development of The Dalles Riverfront Dog Park progresses, here is an example of what a great place a waterfront dog park can be:

This 1-acre dog park features a large expanse of lawn, double-gated entrance, a water station, a toy bin, a shaded picnic area, and an easy-access ramp for dog-paddling in the Elizabeth River. In a beautiful picturesque location by the water, it is conveniently close to downtown Norfolk, and right n...

In the interest of trying to assist in preventing the spread of COVID-19, the Port of The Dalles made a decision earlier this evening to cancel the March 18th Port Commission Meeting. They are going to review the possibilities next week to hold public meetings via phone or web and will announce when a decision has been made.

Remember to protect your pups!!

Did you know ticks come out of dormancy any time the temperature is above 45 degrees outside.

That means it’s time to get your pets protected against tick born diseases by getting them on a flea and tick preventative.

Come see us to find out about all the different preventative options for your pet.

(The lone star tick shown on this chart is not yet endemic to this area, but is expected to make an appearance in the near future.)

Good morning everyone!

Just a quick update: I went down to the property last week and took some video with my phone. I’ll share it all with you once I edit some of the noise out of it 👍🏻 I’ve also reached out to some local businesses to get quotes for signs and materials needed for different phases. I’m hoping this will be the proof needed to show we are dedicated to creating a safe and happy place for pups to play.

Thank you all for your shares and likes! Let’s keep spreading the positive attention!

Afternoon everyone!!

I went for a walk down to the proposed area and took a look around. I couldn’t get further than the gate they currently have (not stroller friendly just yet!) I will be making some edits to our game plan a little bit as far as the owners area, part of phase 4 I haven’t made drawn up yet. I wanted to get a feel for the land. I will post pictures of what we’ll be working with soon.

Thank you again for your positivity and questions. I hope I answered them for you.

Please continue to like and share our page! The more community becomes involved, the closer we are to achieving our dream!

Good morning everyone!!

I just wanted to give everyone an update to what we’re doing.

Recap: At the Port of The Dalles meeting they asked for certain aspects; 1 year plan, 5 year plan, title work of the property and liability insurance.

Currently: In the proposal packet I’m creating that covers the time line for the park, I have it broken into 4 phases. I’ll post my pictures to show you each step. I’ve also reached out to businesses that do fencing, construction, porta potties, etc and gathered quotes. My goal is to make this proposal so concrete that the Port of The Dalles will have no question but to say yes!! Once we get permission for the land, that’s when I’ll need YOUR help!

Please be patient and positive while we’re working on this. We all want to explore and run in our new park but first we have to take baby steps 👍🏻😁👍🏻

If you have any questions or comments, please direct message here.

Let’s Build A Dog Park!

We are dedicated to creating a sustainable dog park for our town, The Dalles, Oregon! We want the community to join with us in this venture. The help of dog loving volunteers is what is going to make this a reality and those volunteers will be needed to maintain this park as well.

We are working with The Port of The Dalles, Wasco County Conservation District, Wasco County Parks and Recreation and The City of The Dalles just to name a few.

We will be seeking grants as well as local business and individual contributions.

We hope all the dog lovers of our beautiful town will come together and make a wonderful place for our dogs as well as a wonderful addition to our waterfront!

Who We Are

We are group of dog loving citizens of The Dalles, Oregon who are creating and building a sustainable dog park in our town!

For the last few years, our town of The Dalles, Oregon has been trying to create a dedicated off-leash dog park for it’s citizens. There have been a few failed attempts however those ventures help lay the foundation of what we are doing TODAY!

The Dalles needs a place for responsible dog owners to bring their dogs to socialize with other dogs and for their owners to socialize as well!

There is a piece of property on the beautiful Columbia River between the marina and the new city dock that is just sitting there waiting for the patter of many happy paws and the sounds of playful pups and their joyful humans to echo over the water!

The mission of The Dalles Riverfront Dog Park, is to establish and maintain access to a quality, sustainable dog recreational area within The Dalles for its 13,000 residents and over 18,000 annual visitors.

The dog park will be the centrally located Riverfront location between the cruise ship dock and the marina on the Riverfront Trail. The siting of the dog park at this location will serve to rehabilitate a neglected waterfront parcel, facilitate healthy outdoor recreation and bring an additional attraction to Downtown The Dalles.
