WE HAVE AN UPDATE!
"Dear BSR,

Thank you for remembering me on my special day. It is so much more than just “Gotcha” to me. I came to my forever family with my new little Boykin spaniel sister, Scout, and we have been joined at the hip ever since. I began my new life in Kansas as “Rowdy”. My sister and I are self-proclaimed “Johnson County Princesses” so we don’t hunt, but we can retrieve a ball thrown for 45 minutes and prefer the taste and feel of it to feathers and squishy mud. What’s a few cockleburs after daily fun at a private park?

More about me. I am a black hole for love, make myself available but do not impose. I just sit at Dad or Mom’s knee, look up and wait for the outpouring of affection which surely follows. I love bacon on “Bacon -Waffel Sundays and treats. I have fluffy fleece blankets in my “box” which is where I like to nap and sleep at night. And I love toys, did I mention toys? Lots of them, especially chewy bones and soft “creatures”.

I remain grateful to BSR for the expensive healthcare given me and my siblings and post illness recovery by a loving foster family.

More about me! In a word, I am beautiful, I know because everyone tells me so. My 1630 tag said I was “special” and more so because I was chosen. I am fluffy, mom says, “chubby”, but it’s all fru-fru, my sister is smooth with curly ears but I am delightfully covered with lots of curls which I maintain with scheduled trips to the beauty parlor for wash, trim and blow-out styling which I love.

When I was younger I was afraid of fireplugs so with therapy I was able to overcome the fear and learned how to balance ON TOP of the plug. See the photo!

My sister was “special ordered” and I was chosen, a fact I remind Scout of from time to time when we chat about who mom or Dad loves more. I am very thankful BSF found me and I hope you are able to continue to do the wonderful work of matching other LBD’s like myself with families waiting for us. In my case, Mom and Dad were grieving the loss of not one but two little brown spaniels to cancer within seven weeks, so my arrival was, well, heaven-sent, so too, little sister, Scout.

Please keep in touch and keep up the good work! I have two birthdays: the day I was born and then the day I met my forever family. Two celebratory days and more love."

We have an update!
"I can’t believe it has been 3 yrs already. Travis has become such a lovable, silly best friend. His favorite words are “Let’s Go!” He loves being with other dogs. The King Charles Cavalier is my son’s dog. When we visit that is their lookout post when we leave them. So happy he was allowed to come to New Jersey. Everyone tells him how handsome he is. Wishing the best to all at BSR!! Thanks again for my buddy!! "

We have an update!

Three years ago, on September 17, I was picked up by my new parents, Bob and April. I had no idea what to expect. I was too scared to p*e, eat or sleep, but Bob stayed up all night with me, and I thought, "maybe this might be the right place." They were very patient with me and still are whenever I have a bad day. I get anxious sometimes and get kinda crazy.
I LOVE my routine! A long walk every morning with my mom, either on the road or in the neighbor's pecan orchard. Lots of room to run and smell. I have to watch for cars, and get treats for paying attention to Mom.Some days I listen better than others. Oh, well.
I am offered breakfast, and I try to catch a sofa nap while Mom eats hers. If she and Dad both have to go out, I will stay home and snooze on their bed. They have learned what things to put out of my reach while they are gone, like tissue boxes (my favorite to shred!), Mom's glasses, the TV remote, computer cords, and those lovely plastic pill bottles by Mom's bedside. The pills are yucky, but those bottles are so fun to chew!
We have lunch on the porch when they return, followed by my next favorite activity: nap time on the bed!!!! Mom reads, I sleep and snore. Pure Heaven!
Around 5:00 is my next favorite activity: a ride on the golf cart! Dad drives, and Mom and I sit and see the sights. We usually go across the street through the pecan grove and see all the geese and water birds. About halfway through, I get off the cart to go mark and p**p, then they take off and I race beside them, ears flying! They make me get back on and ride home, but I swear I could run some more. If the horses are hungry we stop and feed them. I try to steal some of their yummy food, but Mom fusses at me.
Then it's time for Mom to fix dinner. I park myself in the kitchen to catch anything that might get dropped. I usually eat my food after they finish theirs.
Evenings are spent on the sofa watching TV, Mom on her end and me on mine. She buys these covers that I love to burrow in, after I throw all the pillows on the floor. I know she will straighten it all up for me to mess up again tomorrow.
Dad takes me outside at 9:00 and 11:00. I go into the bedroom to sleep with Mom around 10:00. She won't let me lick myself while on the bed. That's a No-No, but I do it to calm myself down so I can sleep. If I can't stop licking, I have to sleep in my own bed. I'd rather sleep in theirs.
My favorite day of the week is Saturday! We all go to the Farmer's Market, where Mom and Dad shop, and I get to greet the other dogs, and all the humans there who want to pet me. I get lots of pets and compliments. Everyone thinks I am so young and pretty! Next we have breakfast on the back porch at Sunrise Bistro. All of the wait staff take turns coming out to talk to me and pet me. I just soak it all in!
I have so many favorite activities! I love when Dad takes me to the dump and then on to Tractors Supply or Home Depot. I get to go in with him and smell all the different things in the store.
Another favorite is going to the beach! We pack a sand mat and umbrella so I can take a cozy nap after walking on the beach. I'm not too keen on going into the water, as I am not the best swimmer. I just didn't learn that when I was growing up in the kennel. I also don't like toys or balls to chase. I just never had them growing up. I do love treats and chews, though.
I sometimes get to travel out of town with Mom and Dad. We stay at a friend's house or in a motel. I have to remember not to mark the place as my own, but sometimes I forget.
If they are going somewhere I can't go, they send me to this lovely spa. I love it there! They are all so nice and keep a routine. I feel safe there, and know that Mom and Dad will always come back to get me. I do love home the best! My own sofa, my own yard, my own bed! Heaven!
I hope I live a long long time with my Mom and Dad on Wadmalaw.
Yours truly, Raylene

We have an update!

"Lucy Lee (Lulu) and I received your card and can’t believe we are on second year gotcha day anniversary. Lulu is doing great, she is happy and healthy. Her personality has come out from the shy girl she was 2 years ago but still the sweetest dog I have ever had. She had a year full of firsts including a Christmas parade and snow. She enjoys walking and riding in the car. I have included some pictures. Take care. Nicole and Lulu "
