Teaching puppies how to handle living in a home, and a that comes with it, is such a vital skill!
✅Learning how to be calm, chew a bone and hang out.
✅Learning how to not harrass older dogs and be respectful.
✅Learning that children can be crazy and to be appropriate with them, just as the children learn to be appropriate with the puppies.
These puppies are really set up for success!

Maui is such an awesome "big sister" to other puppies. She is such a mature and collected puppy when it comes to confinement and being in her pen, she helps teach all other puppies about it too!

Maui and Sriracha, our 2 youngest Smart Start Puppies, are ready for their new homes!
Maui is a Pug/Dachshund/Chihuahua/Cocker Spaniel mix, about 12 weeks old, and is full of personality, life, love and snuggles. This girl will be about 15 lbs as an adult. She will be a BIG dog in a small package. Maui came to us at 6 weeks old, dirty, nails long and nervous of the world. She is now a new dog and ready for her next adventure with you!
Sriracha is a German Shepherd Dog/Cattledog/Rottweiler + mix and will be about 50 lbs as an adult. She is spunky, spicey and always ready for a good time. She LOVES people, loves life and loves everything. Her happiness is contagious. This girl loves to play and will need someone who can keep up with her active lifestyle! Sriracha came to us at 3 weeks old malnourished, dirty and unsure. Now she is a shining star and a wonderful puppy!
Both puppies are microchipped with registration paid for, have had Embark DNA and Genetic screening kits done, vaccinated for their age. They are learning manners, crate training, potty training, socialization and more! They both come when called and have had tons of continued socialization with environments, people, dogs, objects and more! You couldn't ask for more well rounded puppies.

As we prepare Hiccup (formerly HeiHei) off to his new home, we are getting him acclimated to wearing a sweater. Even in Texas the weather gets cold, and these short coated babies can get cold, fast!

Sorry for the lack of posts! We've been busy keeping the puppies busy!
Each time we clean their play pen, we put them in our "holding cells" and work on staying quiet and calm.

Meal times for the puppies has turned into opportunities to create positive associates to the crate! While they certainly aren't perfect yet, they are doing fantastic with their progress.

Maui and HeiHei had a trip to Eastside Pet Clinic today for their booster shots.
HeiHei weighed in at a whopping 3.7 lbs and Maui at 3 lbs even.

Crate training has started for the youngest Smart Start Puppies!
We feed multiple meals in their crates, and then let them relax after they finish for a bit before letting them back out. This creates super positive associates for them and lets them become acclimated to the transition from play pen to crate with ease.

He has been matched with our good friends and colleagues, Brittany and Andrew Gleason of Dog Savvy Training + Development in Austin, Texas ❤
We couldn't be more pleased with this placement and look forward to seeing this baby boy have the most fulfilled life!!!
He will be leaving in the next few weeks to go home.

We had a wonderful evening of puppy socialization and play time yesterday at The Dog Spot.
We had many people come visit and meet the puppies. Plenty of kids of all ages, men and woman to help keep our puppies loving strangers!
Bruno, Tiki, Frida, Ziva, Sriracha, HeiHei and Maui all had the best time and played themselves to collapse!

Some are go-go's, always wanting to play, while others are snuggle butts, just waiting for you to love on them.

Do you have a dog that sometimes comes when called and sometimes does not?
We practice calling & rewarding our Smart Start puppies for coming back to us. It is especially important to do it when they're distracted so that they learn that coming back to us is the best choice they can make.
Here Frida demonstrates that she will zoom back to us even if there are dogs to play with and things to sniff in the environment. Good job Frida!!!
