If you don't get a "love tattoo" from a sport dog or / Police K9/ or personal protection dog after EVERY session you haven't done real training. Ok, ok being a bit sarcastic but honestly quality decoying will involve pain, bruises, and possible injury. 🫣
This is why I prefer a trial level suit when training cause when I cry out in pain it's legit. Not the typical fake "ouch oooh ah ouch" nonsense I see with other decoys. I want a dog to feel and hear that authentic reaction. Trust me, dogs know the difference.
Maple is surpassing ALL expectations. When she commits to a bite I feel the crushing pain of a typical Corso bite.
This is the strength of bite that was meant to instantly crush the throat / skull of a coyote, wolf, or human intruder on a homestead.
Believe you me it hurts terribly when she bites.
This is why for example the best sport dogs from what I have seen do supplemental training now and then allowing them to experience getting raw and dirty no rules combat with a decoy. No driving and controlling the dog by the decoy as usually is the case per the rules in ALL the working dog sports.
Instead the dog is being allowed to completely control and devastate the decoy. Vid to follow showing this.
The confidence boost is so unreal when you see it. Again a once in a while treat 👏🏼
Fortunately Maple did not give me a stress fracture the other day. That particular bite she gave me hurt like heck and hearing that crunch was unnerving.
Again
Decoying takes decades to learn to do. Developing a dog, knowing how to read a pup/ adult dog each second to bring out its full potential
is a humbling experience.
Just when you think you know what you are doing you realize it will take lifetimes to master your craft.
All you can do is try your best, keep an open mind to new and different ideas and maintain that sponge beginner mind. 🙏🏼
