Meet FLEETWOOD
DOB: 01/01/2020
Weight: 20lbs
Fleetwood, the beautiful terrier with ice blue eyes, came to us two years ago after being found as a stray in Mexico. She was right on the cusp of being adopted, when she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia (IMTP). Her condition is being managed with medication that she takes twice a day. The monthly cost of the prescription (Atopica) is approximately $250 per month and will need to be continued for life.
Despite her condition, she's a happy, friendly girl that enjoys playing with other dogs her size that are not too over-bearing and really loves hanging out with her people. Fleetwood would not be a good fit for a home with cats. Fleetwood has been in a long-term foster home receiving the care she needs and now that she's stabilized she's ready for a family of her own.
Everyone is welcome to attend this meet and greet. In order to adopt you must be preapproved before the date of the event. We recommend getting your application in now. Click here to begin our application process:
Little Brooklyn, is the last of her little to be adopted and she wonders when it will be her turn to find her forever family.
Brooklyn is a happy, Chi mix puppy full of sass. She's affectionate and playful and follows you around with a curious mind. She's at the perfect age for socialization and is ready to learn everything about this big world we live in. DOB 08/11/2024

Joan of Arc here! I'm a special kitten who is under the care of our medical team. I am a true survivor, who is getting stronger by the day! Now I'm eating canned kitty food which is making me even stronger! But our pantry is nearly out of cat and kitten food. Can you help my friends and me? I've picked out some of our favorite things that we're low on and put them on a wishlist below. My friends and I would be so grateful for your help in making our tummies full! And maybe you can help in sharing this post!

Meet BOB the PILOT (aka Tucker)
DOB: 04/30/2016
Weight: 25lbs
So many good things to say about Bob the Pilot (aka Tucker). Tucker was adopted from us years ago and came back to us after his family could no longer care for him. His hair was falling out due to poor nutrition and he was in overall rough shape. Tucker has since been in a great foster home where he is receiving top notch care, his hair is growing back and he's happier than ever. You'll find Tucker to be a great companion. He loves to be with his family, play with toys and and wrestle with other dogs of any size. He is housetrained and walks well on a leash and would do best with kids 10+. Tucker has not been tested with cats.

Meet MAYA!
DOB 4/3/2019
Weight 38lbs
Maya is looking for her soulmate. Someone like her that enjoys the peace of a quiet house, one that doesn’t entertain much and keeps to themselves and perhaps has some property or a large back yard where they can spend their days sun bathing or exploring nature together. Maya seeks a home where she doesn’t have to share her person with other animals or children and with a person that is hopelessly devoted to her as she will be to them. Maya had a previous injury to her pelvis and has a slight limp but that doesn't slow her down! She appreciates her walks in secluded settings, cuddling in a warm bed and most of all bear hugs from her favorite person! She will need slow introductions and will need some patience as she adjusts to her new life, but will be a loyal companion once she’s settled in.

Can you donate to help us reach a goal of $2,000 to go towards the care a of animals in need of medical attention?
After a long day of work, I headed to the rescue property in Graham. As I pulled up I noticed a small dog in the front yard. I had never seen this dog, and as I got close I realized she was just a puppy. I don't know how long she had been outside for, but she was terrified. Someone snuck onto our property, inside our gated yard, and dumped their dog. No info, no note, no food or water, just dumped their puppy and left. The puppy was shaking and crying in fear. I don't know what she's been through, but she's safe now. We've been working together for a short time, and she's making tremendous strides already! But this is not the way to leave a dog with us. So many things could have gone so terribly wrong that could have resulted in this puppy becoming hurt, escaping, or worse.
On top of caring for this new pup, I am currently taking care of a number of medical dogs right now who are mostly seniors in need of lots of around the clock care and various surgeries. Our resources are extremely limited as we are not funded by the county like other shelters. We have no reliable non-variable income. We want to continue helping dogs, cats, and animals in general who need us most. It is our mission. This is where we ask for your help. Are you able to donate to help with our medical pups and general animal care right now? Or better yet, become a monthly donor! $20 a month helps us tremendously in knowing that there is a reliable source of income that we can count on from month to month! Below are links to donate! Anything you can do, helps a great deal! We appreciate you and hope you'll help us continue saving those who need us most. There are so many sweet, homeless animals out here who need us. Unfortunately funding is the only thing that holds us back from helping more. Together we can continue saving lives for many years to come!

This pretty girl is Morita! Morita has been busy practicing her commands in her foster home so she will be ready for her forever home once that lucky family discovers her. In the comfort of her home, she is a loving, playful, affectionate girl that loves other dogs and does great around cats too! She has trouble expressing herself in large crowds, so you may not see her at our events.

Our Story
It was 1999 when Dr. Illina Berton began practicing veterinary medicine on East Main Avenue. Her passion for animals had been a constant throughout her life, and for the next ten years the staff of the animal hospital were frequently involved with rescue. But in 2009 Dr. Berton knew she wanted to do more. After seeing a dog named Spike online, she drove to Southern California. Spike was due to be euthanized for minor medical issues. She knew she could help. When she arrived to the shelter, her world was forever changed. Seeing the perfectly adoptable dogs being euthanized due to overcrowding, she decided to dedicate her life to saving them. Dr. Berton adopted Spike, who became nicknamed "Sunny Sky" as his gloomy days were far behind him, and soon there would be sunny skies for thousands of ill fated animals. It only seemed fitting to name our shelter after the dog who inspired what is now known as Sunny Sky's Animal Rescue & Hospital.
In 2010, Sunny Sky's Animal Rescue, a 501(c)3 Non Profit Organization was founded as Dr. Berton converted her practice into a shelter. Together the team fundraised to purchase an old city bus that cost $5,500. February 27th of 2010, the team made the 17 hour journey to the East Valley Shelter in Van Nuys and packed the bus with over 40 dogs, and drove them to safety. It was a success! With an abundance of adopters in Northern Washington, people were eager to rescue the dogs saved by the Rescue Bus. Many trips were made, and hundreds of dogs and cats were saved from overcrowded shelters. Taking advantage of the unique opportunity of having a dedicated veterinarian, the rescue was able to take on dogs and cats who needed medical care no one else was able to provide. As the shelter grew, the demand for dogs and cats in Washington grew with it.
One gloomy day, the rescue bus hit a pothole on the freeway and was irreparably damaged. It was time to retire the bus and search for other means of transportation. Soon Sunny Sky's was partnering with other non-profits and shelters willing to transport the dogs to them, by land and by air. There was never a day the shelter would go empty.
The community of Puyallup began to know the rescue as safe haven for all, often bringing many injured, homeless animals to Dr. Berton as they knew she would do her best to save them. Whether it be a goat, a pig, a turkey or crow, we've seen it all!
Today Sunny Sky's celebrates over 5,000 adoptions. It's because of the kind people who choose adoption that we are able to help those who need us the most. With no state or city funding, Sunny Sky's is constantly trying to find ways to fundraise, and help even more animals. This year, we have our goals set high as we dream of having a bigger building to help even more dogs and cats in need.
Thank you for supporting Sunny Sky's Animal Rescue & Hospital. Your support is everything to us. With your help we will change the world one paw at a time.
Sunny Sky's Animal Rescue, a registered 501(c)3 Non Profit Organization. All donations to support the rescue efforts are tax deductible. Tax ID #274119996.
Sharing our animals that need to be adopted, sharing of your ideas, sharing your contacts or resources, donations big & small, are truly appreciated!
Thank you for helping us save these precious lives!!
