Beloved Nadia has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. We would have loved her to live forever -- former racer, tripod....the best sense of humor we have ever known in a boarder. We will miss her sweet and sassy soul, her ability to flip a toy in the air one minute and to lie on her back the next. Thank you Nadia's family for giving her a soft place to land and flourish.

The Old Dog Company mourns the passing of Strider, frequent boarder, 16 years old and a very fine fellow. We will miss him very much. The time we have with them just goes by too quickly.

Happy Adopt a Senior Pet Month! To celebrate one of our favorite months of the year, we want to share with you why senior pets are the BEST pets and may actually be more suitable to your lifestyle.

Older pets may have a few years on their younger counterparts, but just like a fine wine, pets only get better with age. They just need someone to give them a second chance and a loving home! Not to mention, there are quite a few overlooked advantages to adopting an older pet.

1. From the onset, senior pets have fully developed their individual personalities. So, you can likely find a senior who has all the personality traits you’re looking for.

2. Older pets have likely grown out of their childish habits like teething, accidents in the house and destructive behavior, and therefore don’t require constant monitoring or training.

3. Mature pets are more likely to settle into a home quicker as they often have past experience living in homes among people and other pets.

4. Though the saying is “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” older pets are completely capable of learning new skills! Some may already have basic training or know commands like “sit” or “down.”

As they say, “Age is but a number,” and here at CTSS we love any and all animals no matter the breed, size or age. If you are looking to add a furry friend into your family, consider leaving your expectations behind and opening your heart and home to a senior pet.

What did Leo do on his latest boarding adventure with the Old Dog Co. ? He went nose to nose with Scout, resident desert tortoise! He played non-stop with Rocky! He took naps zzzzzzzz! He watched wildlife through the screen! He claimed that he had the time of his life. Good boy, Leo!

New American Kennel Club guidelines for determining the “human” age of your dog. Seems like the seven year dog ratio to the one year human ratio is passé. So how old is your dog? Rocky is 48 years young!
