Lulu’s first field trip
First field trip and of course it was Tractor Supply. While she was getting spoiled with pets and love she was also learning not to jump. No jumping means more pets! We also worked on heel and place. Our biggest hurdle was Lulu’s fear. It took over 5 minutes just to get her in the door because she was so scared. Once inside she saw people, got treats from me and started to realize field trips aren’t so bad after all.
(She was still really scared of the stack of 5 gallon red buckets for some reason. That was a new one for me)
Lulu Day 2
Casanova Chance strikes again. He met his match energy wise though. Lulu ran circles around him (literally). Of course we still spent time on recall, heel and place too. It can’t always be all work though 🐾
Day one for Lulu
Meet Lulu! She is the sweetest 5 month old Golden Doodle. Today was her first full day of training and she did amazing. She is a timid little girl, but still knows how to be stubborn when she doesn’t want to listen.
She has the typical puppy issues: jumping, leash pulling, trying to eat the leash and then jumping at her owner to nip at her shirt when she’s told no. She digs and doesn’t understand what no means. We started on basic commands today to redirect some of those behaviors and will continue working on them all week.
Nikki agility
It was Nikki’s first time trying agility. Her confidence is going to be soaring. Leading her with treats helped get her over her fear and had her focusing on getting the reward. I’m shocked at how well she did!
Chance Agility
The cooler weather (and finally growing grass in the main yard) means agility equipment gets to come out for a couple months! The only one happier than me is Chance!
Opening the toy box alone
Smarty pants Meeko is the first dog to open the lid of the wooden toy box on his own and help himself. Squeaky toys and A/C is way better than this heat!
Pack howl
Josh, Aria and Meeko having a pack howl! 😂😂😂
Dexter the duck dog
Dexter is a wannabe duck dog. He loves retrieving duck dummies!
Aria’s new ramp
Aria is only getting older (turning 11 in a month) and her back legs have been giving her some struggles. If you look closely you can see her legs shaking when she stands in front of the camera.
We have been doing everything we can to help. She no longer is allowed upstairs, no more jumping onto the bed, we got a sling lift to help her down the deck steps when she needs and we got her this ramp so she doesn’t have to jump into the cars.
Like everything new, we needed to train her to use it and show it’s not scary. Luckily for me, all it took was a few tries with treats. This will make trips to the vet so much easier!
It was a beautiful day to stop and smell the flowers!
Moxie goes to Lowe’s
Moxie figured out how much fun Lowe’s is today. From meeting people, smelling flowers, wanting to lick the hose, and getting treats from employees, it’s safe to say she had a good day.
Aside from heel, we worked a lot on holding commands around distractions. That’s tough work for a puppy and she knocked it out like the super star she is!
Moxie’s first field trip
Moxie went to Tractor Supply today and I will admit I was extremely nervous. Moxie is very strong and can definitely pull me around if she wants. I even had my husband tag along in case I needed help.
Moxie ended up doing great! She did stretch out to sniff everyone who walked by, but she didn’t pull me and immediately got back into heel and corrected herself. Go Moxie!
Moxie’s first day
Meet Moxie. She is an 8 month old German Shepherd/Pit Bull mix. At only 8 months she already weighs 80 pounds. She’s a big girl who pulls on a leash, jumps on people and counters, puppy mouths, and is just a wild girl at times.
She’s already doing great on her first day. She has had a few stubborn moments, but we were able to work through them so quickly. She’s a smart girl!
Tocho hits the trails
We checked out the new East Windham conservation area today. Tocho did great on the trail and I loved that it’s a trail wide enough to heal a dog on (dog being next to me instead of in front).
This is our last day with Tocho. We’re going to miss those baby blues and sweet snuggles!
Happy 5th Birthday to the super 7: Oakley, Riley, Bentley, Dexter, Gardiner, Moxie and Abby.
Dexter got a whole bucket of chuck it balls!
Tocho went to Lowe’s today to work on heel, place, down, and his stability around distractions. He did amazing! He got lots of attention and even had people ask to take his picture. Such a handsome good boy!
Tocho recall and stability
Yesterday Tocho did not want to recall around Chance. Today we fixed that and practiced recall around Nikki, Dexter and Chance. We also worked hard on stability and impulse control. Getting this bundle of energy to sit still is a proud moment!
First field trip for Tocho and first time meeting Chance. He did great at Tractor Supply, but like most dogs was afraid of those magical moving doors when we entered. He was pretty fearless when it came to place. We still have some work to do on his jumping as well as his listening skills around other dogs (but we all know Chance is quite distracting!)
Tocho is just so photogenic! He did great with place and heel and holding still long enough for me to take pictures! We didn’t see a lot of distractions on our walk. I think our first field trip will be fun (and maybe a little wild once he sees more people and dogs).
Never ever give up! If you give a dog a command it is up to you to follow through with your dog. Sometimes when they refuse to do something it is because they are scared, just being stubborn, or don’t understand what you are asking.
Tocho had already placed on everything. He knew what the command meant. However, he was scared of the noise the metal tin made, possibly thought he couldn’t fit, and there also isn’t a flat edge to step up on since it’s all rounded. I knew he could do it and knew there was nothing for him to be scared of. The first clip is sped up. It took multiple attempts that look like this video before he was confident enough to get up on his own. Never give up and you could be surprised at what your dog can do!
