Points North Horse Rescue Points North is committed to helping neglected and abused horses by working with law enforcement

Time for a long overdue update. My time and energy has been redirected to the rescue and the 4-H club that benefits from the use of some of the horses. Our relationship with a local facility and therapy program is over completely and our horses are all together at the rescue main farm. The Sheriff's Mounted Unit has been busy with two calls in 3 days. It seems things happen for a reason and I think the impact will be positive!!

Some of our favorite faces will be at the Muskegon County Fairgrounds Saturday October 1st from 7-11pm. Come take your last ride with us. You'll be glad you did.

Here are two of our volunteers and two of the horses that are on loan from Points North Horse Rescue. They all work in our therapy program, along with serving our community with the Muskegon County Sheriff's Mounted Unit. Thank you to Paul, Melissa, Sparky and Bear for your efforts at the Sportsmen For Youth event.

Today we rallied and helped deliver 3 horses to safety from a private surrender situation. Big thanks to Wayne Klein , Liz Dillon and Paul Sedig for all the help. Right now as we transition, many of our rescue horses are becoming part of the Heal With A Horse program at Chance Stables. It is a beautiful opportunity for the horses to have a career in the service of many. As hay prices rise we ask that people reach out for help before the horses suffer. We will always try to find a solution. Pictures to follow over the next few days.

We have been quiet for a while settling into our new program. Three of our favorite rescue horses are making their transition to becoming therapy mounts for the Heal with a Horse program at Chance Stables.
In the past week we have been asked to take on 3 new horses as private surrenders at the rescue. Times are getting tough and with the cost of fuel and fertilizer we expect hay prices to soar. We will need support of our followers if we are going to continue this work. Volunteers will be needed for care as well as financial for vet, dental and farrier work for all the new horses. Pop can donations and Tribute feed proofs of purchase are always welcomed. Be watching for updates soon. It's about to get busy!

It has been a tough couple of weeks battling Covid. We are grateful for those who have stepped up in our absence. We have a big announcement coming at the end of the week. We hope you will be as thrilled as we are.

We have the opportunity again tomorrow evening to make some more money for the rescue. We will be cleaning about 40 stalls in the horse barns at the Muskegon County Fairgrounds. We plan to start by 6:00pm. Yard rakes and snow shovels are fantastic tools for this job. We will have a few available, but you are welcome to bring your own as well. Cold beverages will be provided!

Time to do some more fund raising for the rescue. Tomorrow, Monday August 9 starting at 5:00pm we will be cleaning stalls at the fairgrounds. Each stall is worth $5.00 to the rescue. There are probably 50-60 that need to be done. We will have some equipment available, but if you come to help and have yard rakes or snow shovels, they work best to clear the shavings from the stalls. Please let me know if you are able to lend a hand. Cold beverages will be provided.

02/08/2021

Stall cleaning fundraising opportunity starts tonight! Round 1 at 5pm and Round 2 immediately following the Mounted Unit meeting, so probably around 8:30. If you can help it's best if you bring a leaf rake or snow shovel for tools. Hope to see some friends there this evening.

Just wanted to post that our 4-H and riding club will not be having an August meeting while we finish some paperwork and clean up some details but in September we will be going back to work for the 2021-2022 season with monthly meetings and a modified focus. If you have a child that would like to participate next year please let me know. They must be at least 5 years old by January 1 to join. The 4-H club has two leaders so a maximum of 16 members and the Independent Club will run a parallel program with 2 other additional leaders. Be sure to get on my list ASAP as we may start working projects and fund raising later this month.

We will be looking for volunteers to help us clean stalls from the horse show at the county fairgrounds. We may start work this evening but most likely it'll be Tomorrow late afternoon to evening. If you're willing to help us we would greatly appreciate it as many hands make for light work. I will post a start time once I have a confirmation with our board of directors.

Looking for volunteers to work at the concession stand this weekend and to help clean stalls after the show. Please contact me directly if you are available to help. All proceeds go to benefit the rescue.

Looking for volunteers for the rescue. Duties will include stacking hay, scrubbing and filling water tanks, cleaning stalls and grooming horses. Also working at fund raisers such as stall cleaning, concession stands and pony rides. If you are interested drop me a message. We are in need of dedicated people not just people that want to pet or ride horses. We are a 7-day a week regardless of the weather operation. All volunteers will require an application and background check. So if you can't pass one don't bother.

What an incredible weekend! In the past two weeks we have really had some ups and downs but we are looking on the bright side. We have successfully rehomed a couple of horses to wonderful new families and have another one pending. The fundraiser concession stand was successful which allowed us to buy a couple loads of new hay and this morning we have been contacted about hay from two more suppliers that should be ready in the next week. Fund raising continues tonight at the fairgrounds with cleaning stalls. This will provide much needed funding to continue to buy hay and to provide some much needed dental care for a couple of our geriatric horses. Hope to see you at 6pm. Many hands will make for light, quick work.

We hope everyone is having a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend. Tomorrow it's back to business as usual and we are looking for help cleaning stalls at the fairgrounds. There were about a hundred stalls reserved for the show this past weekend and they will all need to be scraped and shoveled into the aisle way. Please send me a message or respond to this post if you are able to come and help us. We will be starting at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. We will have cold beverages available for anybody who comes and helps along with our undying appreciation!

Well we got some good news this afternoon. Our first load of 100 bales of hay is ready for pickup at the price of $6 per bale. I doubt that we have enough cans in storage to cover the expense and to make matters worse we are so short staffed that no one has time to return them right now. I hope to be posting a volunteer application to the points north rescue page within the next 24 hours. Hopefully we'll find some people who are willing to do some manual labor all for the good of the horses

26/05/2021

Well here's another opportunity to lend a hand to the rescue. I am going to need help unloading 100 bales of hay and these are big heavy bales before Friday. On Friday evening from 4:00 until 9:00 and on Saturday from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. I am going to need people to help me at the fairgrounds with the horse show. If you're interested in helping out please contact me to get a time scheduled.

05/05/2021

I just want to give a huge "THANK YOU" to everyone who came out to help us clean stalls at the fairgrounds last night. Many hands certainly made for light work and the two barns we're stripped in two hours which is record time. Thank you again. We appreciate your support ❤️

Today the vet will check out the 4 horses that were surrendered just over a week ago. They are steadily gaining weight and showing positive personality changes. Hopefully the vet will give us some positive input. We will update when we have more information do in the meantime say a prayer.

Our team was successful in removing the final two horses. Big shout out to Bud Dillon for his roping skills. Horses and humans are safe. Time to get busy raising money to help them.

I wanted to give a quick update and apologize for not staying up on posting events. It has been a very stressful couple of weeks. We had to put down the grand old livestock guardian dog one day followed by my retired Posse horse, Scooter the very next day. If that wasn't enough the calls for help keep coming. The past week I have been working through some issues with 5 horses that need some serious help. Two horses have been moved and are safe, two more will be moving tomorrow morning and the fifth horse was euthanized yesterday. This is a very sad and desperate situation. These horses are going to need lots of help. We will post pictures as soon as we are able. We need to get them all moved and treated for lice and worms. Then we will go forward with assessments on the old injuries to determine if they will have any quality of life or if it will be best to humanely euthanize them. We are hopeful and optimistic but it is a tough road ahead. We appreciate your support and understanding. I promise we will get a horse grooming day set up very soon.

Edit/Update:. We are all set here. Thankfully the horse owner has been found! Can anyone identify this horse or its owner...

Can anyone identify this horse or its owner? It was found on Owasippe Road near Ge**er Scout Camp. The horse is currently safe and being held at a private home. Please contact me for details.

It is supposed to be a lovely weekend and I'm sure we have some more horses that could use some grooming to get rid of their winter hair. I am looking at the possibility of opening it up to volunteers on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. You can either put a post here as a response to this message if you are interested or you may contact me through direct messaging. We will have a limit on the number of people allowed at the farm at one time due to staffing.

19/03/2021

I am hoping to have volunteer forms posted later this weekend. We have some scruffy, feral looking horses that need some help shedding their winter hair. I look forward to providing some opportunities for spending time with the herd.
