LPRC Super Retriever Series! It’s been a crazy busy week but with the strong work of our LPRC members, we pulled off another successful event- great job everyone!

Thank you to the landowner, Brian Watson, for the use of his gorgeous property. It’s definitely a retriever’s paradise. Judges Brian Broussard and Benny Landry put on 4 challenging series and Marshal Kevin Redman kept things running smoothly. A huge thank you for the awards made by John and Carol Huddleston- the yard dog silhouettes- they were unique and VERY COOL!

A huge thank you to LPRC members Kevin McDonald and Britt Jones- they worked tirelessly from before daylight until after dark. Additional help was also provided by club members Dakota Best, Kerrigan Odom, Sid Junek, and Jim Lane.

We’d also like to thank John McCandless and Jacob Segars (not club members- YET!) for their assistance.

Also we gotta thank the Ladies of Lost Pines- Kristin Best and Cynthia Blomquist for the delicious lunches they prepared each day and brought out to the test so we could have a hot and freshly prepared meal.

The LPRC is a very active club and works tirelessly hosting events from December through April. With 4 mid-week Master tests and an SRS now under our belt- the finish line is finally in sight! We have our AKC test next weekend with the Qual on Friday and a Master, Senior, and 2 Junior tests over the weekend. If you’d like to volunteer to come out and help, we’d love to have you join us. Contact us and come enjoy a fun filled weekend!

The Lost Pines December Mid-Week, 3 day 100 Dog Master test was a success! We proudly carry the banner of “new kid on the block”, having only been a club now for five years. But we managed to pull off one of the smoothest and most organized hunt tests ever seen! In an effort to become a stronger and more well rounded club, for the next year, we have encouraged members to take on new roles that they have never done previously. It was a big hit. Dakota Best took on the role of Chairman and was a great leader and well prepared! Yolanda Buchman was our seasoned Secretary and she was gracious enough to teach Jim and Lisa Lane the role- they are organized and on top of it- they’re gonna be very good! Club Members Britt Jones (Bird Steward) and Kevin McDonald (Head Marshal) ran the show from the beginning and, as a result, we started on time, had very few no-birds, and the transition from series to series was seamless! The LPRC Lunch Ladies, Kristin Best and Cynthia Blomquist, provided a hot lunch each day to the workers, judges, and even participants- something no other club in Texas does! Vince Carr was on the committee and volunteered his time to help shoot fliers and be present in case an issue was to arise. Club member Rob Somers stepped up to judge when one of the judges had to back-out suddenly due to a family emergency. Danny Cranford brought two of his buddies to shoot fliers and they were spot on! Even the Pros Jeff Brown with Dawgonit Retrievers and JC Strange with Cripple Creek Retrievers lent a hand while also juggling their roles as professional handlers. It takes a village and we’re extremely proud of the dedication shown this week by everyone involved. Thank you everyone for coming, hope you had a good time and GREAT JOB LPRC!!!!

Back in 2020, Wyatt was an energetic teenager about to start his freshman year of high school. He loved the outdoors and especially fishing. But all that changed one night when he went to bed with an ear ache. The next morning, his Mom found him in bed, incoherent and in pain. In less than 36 hrs, meningitis had stolen his freedom. But not his mind or his love of fishing! Fast forward a few years. The Lost Pines Retriever Club was founded and the members wanted to do something more than just host hunt tests- they wanted to find a way to help someone in need. That’s where Chad Waligura, an avid outdoorsmen and paraplegic, comes into the picture. He is the founder of Able Outdoors, an organization that can connect those physically impaired with hunting and fishing opportunities in the great outdoors. He mentioned Wyatt’s situation to Kristin Best and she knew that the Lost Pines Retriever Club could help him! At the Club’s Christmas Party, in lieu of gifts, members were encouraged to donate towards Wyatt’s cause. Rody Best reached out to Wyatt’s family and was put in touch with his nurse, Becky. Wyatt was informed of the plan to help getting him back to fishing and he was super excited! Together, with his nurse, Wyatt sent Rody a list of what he would need. Next, Rody reached out to Dr Roland Kehr, the founder of MPOWR Fishing LLC and co-creator of the MPOWR battery powered fishing reel. Dr Kehr knew immediately he could help too! So LPRC purchased the reel and Dr Kehr enthusiastically agreed to chip in by donating the accessory which would allow Wyatt to use his mouth to activate the reel. Best Retrievers purchased the rod and holder and some fishing tackle and the plan was complete! On Saturday, October 26th, Rody and Kristin went to Wyatt’s house and delivered the package. Wyatt was all smiles when they arrived and couldn’t wait to start using it. Now he can go out onto the back deck of his house and enjoy fishing and the outdoors again! Thank you members of the Lost Pines Retriever Club, Chad Waligura with Able Outdoors, and Best Retrievers.
