I have had many reach out about rentals this spring. Between my current job change happening and the flu being particularly bad this year we have had a lot to think about for our farm and future. I know people are excited about Easter and chicks. Now that the flu has been found on three farms in Missouri, a domestic waterfowl ban has been put in place and Easter is fast approaching we have made a decision on what we are doing for the time being. I feel for the safety of our farm we can’t do rentals this spring. We will offer chicks and birds through private sale and hopefully this summer we can start back up again when this has passed. Big crazy news for the farm this week! We have a bred heifer, who we expected to calve in October. It seems that it will be sooner. Pretty sure she is going to this weekend so now it baby watch! Now to get prepared for hopefully a healthy baby!

We went to the Waterloo, IL Midwest bird swap this morning. We sold some birds and eggs. We also came home with some new birds, another breed of turkey and Bunnies! Hoping we can work out a rental program for them. We got two breeds, mini Rex and holland lop. Both these are small rabbits don’t get over a couple lbs. We also moved birds into new grow out pens and got our broilers in the field. It’s been a long day and gonna go see if we can pet our piglets yet. Pictures to come of the new bunnies and setups.

Peewee is the tiniest duck I’ve ever hatched. Yes as a kid we would hatch call ducks, (my absolute favorite) they are the bantam of the duck world. This little guy is not one, however he is just as tiny. Tonight we did bath time and he just floated around never kicking. It seems he got a little extra water in his lungs so now needs extra tlc. He is probably my favorite right now with Pepper our gosling or flips our little guy with a slight foot deformity we have corrected. We know he will always be special needs if he makes it through to adulthood but I’m hoping the extra attention will make him extra sweet. He will be a week old tomorrow so yes he is really tiny.

Ducks ducks ducks! So many babies in the tub tonight. Have one gimp guy we are fixing his foot so not everyone is in the tub so he wouldn’t be lonely. Available for rent or purchase.

Ducks!!!! We have 15 and counting ducklings mostly kakhi Campbell. These are available along with limited rentals. Rentals will run for 2 weeks with the option to extend on a weekly basis. Picture tonight after we pick up April’s rental chicks!

Big things are happening here at Comfy Farm. We have always enjoyed having our birds free range and pasture raised. We find our eggs are amazing because of this. Now the next step we are starting a permaculture farmstead. We added a few of the key parts today. First we have 200 beautiful Cornish cross chicks. They will be antibiotic, drug-free, pasture chickens. We are excited to offer a early deposit on your chicken now as they will be ready in EIGHT weeks. Second we are adding four belted galloway cross mini cows. These girls will be a key part in the pasture raising of our chickens and produce future offspring for pastured, antibiotic free meat. Have questions about how this style of farming affects flavor and taste feel message us to chat about what‘s going in your freezer and why this what we prefer in ours! These chicks will go fast and look forward to talking to you soon!

Well it they didn’t even wait for me to get off work. I woke up to the third hatching as I left this morning. Then when I got home the last chick that was going to hatch had made its appearance. So the twins after some candling look like they made it til a few days before lockdown. Then one bantam egg died around 14 it looks, judging off size of the embryo while candling. The last that didn’t hatch looks like it had difficulty pipping. Then we had one more that pipped but was unable to zip.

So we have one baby out. Not suppose to start til tomorrow so that was a great surprise! Several pips (small holes from the chick hatching out). Wonder how many we will have in the morning? Hoping to catch a few hatching to record. Any guesses of how many are out by this time tomorrow?

April peeps check your emails! Also tomorrow 14 goose eggs going in the incubator! Hoping for a good hatch. Got them on loan from an amazing grass beef operation. Any interest in grass fed, antibiotic free, pastured poultry, beef, turkey, lamb or pork?

Happy Easter! Hope the bunny found everyone’s house this morning. We were busy last night candling some eggs and I caught this amazing video of an embryo. Just placed a large batch in the incubator yesterday as well and will have another batch going in again in about a week. So who wants some ducklings? Also incubator rentals have arrived and can now include duck or chick eggs! I’ll be messaging the wait list Monday so we can get everyone started!

All chicks have been picked up we do have a few extras if anyone is interested. We will be ready to start booking May now and if you want in on the incubator upgrades let me know. They should be here tomorrow. Also the surprise friend today is resting from all the love and snuggles. Meet B! We think Henry named him Blippi but aren’t positive. He is a hair sheep and about 3 days old.

Well we are just posting up a storm with all this April Rental madness. So sent the olde man to bid on a llama, we are planning to raise pasture turkeys for your thanksgiving needs, so for protection. What did they buy?!? Well not a llama but everyone will get to meet him tomorrow at pick ups. 😉

Well the first one is out! Got home just in time to watch it break free and boy it has some lungs. Chicks can stay in the incubator for 3 days while they dry off and wait for the rest to hatch. They have their yoke sac to live off and have no need for water or feed. Plus this is an egghausting process for them. So some rest is much earned. Don’t forget we offer rentals every month and even incubator rentals so you can watch this miracle in your own home!

All my April rentals as of 8 am we have 3 pips and some cheeping going on!!! I’ll be out today so hopefully babies when we get home and more pips! Anyone want to guess how many chicks will be hatched by this afternoon? The kids have guessed 1 maybe 2. Will be sending you all videos hopefully this evening when they really kick it into high gear!

All the April rentals should have received there email with time and location to meet. We just pulled the turner ring out of the incubator this evening. So babies will be popping soon. If someone didn’t get a message from me please let me know.

Comfy Farm just got a new member. We usually keep things with feathers in the basement and not too many things with hooves!!! We have a new temporary house guest while we try to rehabilitate her and hopefully save her. Meet Eloise the angus heifer.

2021 we will be offering Duckling rentals and incubator expansions to our Watch them Grow! You will receive eggs from our beautiful birds mostly from previous rentals! We will be able to offer ducklings as well once the weather warms up and dependent on hatching. These will run for 2 weeks, ducklings are very messy and also super fast growers! Of course if you decided to extend the rental or adopt that’s always an option as well! Hurry up and book your spot now for next season!

One for til December 15 we are keeping the same price price for anyone that puts a deposit down on a Watch them Grow setup! So that’s $115 plus deposit! The price will be going up next year. The other deal is a referral program where $5 off your setup for every person you refer to the program! This is good up to 3 people per setup rented.
