After this week of excessive heat, we are ready to get back to training today!

**UPDATE!**

Due to the Excessive Heat being extended into tomorrow, Thursday Aug 24th, we are closing for tomorrow as well. Please help us reach out to everyone that may not be on social media by informing them and asking if they've received our email notification!

It's so important to make sure that you keep yourself and your animals safe during this heat! Make sure you watch out for the signs and remember they don't show distress in the same fashion as we do.

During this Iowa heat with the excessive heat warning through Wednesday evening, please remember that animals are not like people.

Please read and keep them safe!!

“Important PSA from your local veterinary professional. I should have said this earlier today and this applies not only for today, but the rest of this week in the Des Moines area at least. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOGS OUTSIDE FOR ANY REASON OTHER THAN TO GO TO THE BATHROOM, IT IS TOO HOT. DON’T TAKE THEM TO THE LAKE, DON’T TAKE THEM FOR A LONG WALKS, DON’T TAKE THEM FOR SHORT WALKS, DONT PLAY BALL, OR FETCH OR ANYTHING OUTSIDE. THEY NEED TO BE INSIDE AND AIR-CONDITIONED. BY THE TIME YOU KNOW IT’S A PROBLEM IT IS OFTEN TIMES TOO LATE FOR US TO FIX IT. Please just keep them inside. If you have an outdoor dog, consider bringing them inside in a kennel, or at the very least make sure they have plenty of access to shade and water all day long. Even that may be too much.”

It’s no joke that it’s August, the last day of the State Fair, and Iowa.

Excessive heat warnings and a lot of media about taking care of yourself, loved ones, and your animals!

Kai’s wants to be sure you and your dogs stay safe, therefore we have decided to cancel sessions for Tuesday Aug 22nd and Wednesday Aug 23rd.

Make sure to keep everyone hydrated and as cool as possible!

Kai's is CLOSED today, Wednesday July 26th, due to Ragbri.

Due to the extreme heat and heat indexes, we will also be closed tomorrow, Thursday July 27th. We want to make sure everyone (dogs and humans) stays safe! Classes will go on as normal on Saturday, July 29th. 😎

It's no surprise that we are in the true heat of Iowa summer! 🥵

With the temperatures reaching the triple digits, more and more homes are using their air conditioners. This can lead to power outages in some areas. Did you know that not many cooling centers allow pets? What can you do for your pet if you lose power or don't have air conditioning??

Few tips:
Dog houses trap heat = not safe!
Be mindful of your walks - you wear shoes!
Leave your dog home when running errands!

It's that time of year! We already are experiencing some hot days so it's important to remember that we need to help our furry friends stay cool!

Giving your dogs some frozen lick mats, treats, ice cubes are just a few suggestions to helping them stay cool but mostly, they need shade! Keep them safe!

The Fort Dodge Show resulted in Blue and Red Ribbons, along with Title achievements!! Way to go!! New experiences for both handler/dog teams leads to an understanding of what training needs to be refined, and new skills to learn.

Story County Residents!!!

If you do not already have your pet microchipped, this is a great opportunity to do just that!

NOW OPEN TO ALL RESIDENTS OF STORY COUNTY!

MICROCHIP CLINIC MAY 20, 2023

Our next drive-up microchip clinic will take place on May 20, 2023, from 8am-11am at the Ames Water Treatment Plant, 1800 E 13th St. We have a total of 60 cat and 60 dog spots available.

Microchips are just $10, which includes lifetime registration. Staff will implant the microchip and handle all the registration for you. You just need to get them to the event!

This microchip clinic is for Ames residents ONLY until two weeks before the event. If open spots remain within two weeks of the date, those spots will be made available to Story County residents. To apply, please visit www.CityofAmes.org/Microchip. This allows us to verify your residency and also helps minimize paperwork on the day of the event. Once staff has processed your application, you will be able to sign up!

It was a busy and amazing weekend up at Mason City for the dog show! The Kai’s Kompetition Team did well in Obedience and Rally throughout the weekend! Their determination and consistency with training helped to get them where they are today! Many blue ribbon and titles achieved as well as qualifying runs!
