Puppy Head Start Client Oakley! Oakley has been with us for two weeks and is really progressing nicely. She’s got a solid intro to all basic commands and we are thrilled about the foundation to this young pup. We are booked out on our Puppy Headstart program until November. With November being our next available month. Thanks again everyone for the shares and support! #basicobediencetraining #danvilleva #dogtraining #Puppy #puppytraining #southbostonva #durhamnc #bordercollie #labradorretriever
July 4th done right here at the kennel. The boarding/training crew along with our personal dogs always get pulled into photos for the fourth. Of course we had to smoke some pork as well. Happy fourth everyone!
Sheeba the Cane Corso is really progressing nicely. She’s motivated to train daily and is putting the pieces together for quickly. In this video we do a soft intro to the prong collar with no corrections. She looks forward to having it on because she knows training and kibble is coming. Think positive association. This is a wonderful breed and she’s been a joy to work with. #canecorso #canecorsoofinstagram #puppy #canecorsopuppytraining #canecorsopuppy #basicobediencetraining #HalifaxVA #durhamnc #raleighnc #danvilleva
Gypsy girl running a double
I don’t post my personal dogs often and I’m going to try and post more of them occasionally. This is Gypsy running a simple double today and working through checking down on the short bird. She will be running HRC seasoned tests very soon. She is a field bred British lab. She is very biddable and I can’t wait to hunt her this year.
Working our puppy headstart client Gus in with the big dogs today during feeding. Obedience needs to always be a consistent standard. Everyone is eager to eat but everyone waits until they’re released! #labsoffacebook #yellowlabrador #blacklabrador #blacklabsquad #redlabradorlove #puppylife #puppytraining #basicobedience #dogtraining
It was a busy weekend here but we are rolling. We sent Birdie home yesterday from our puppy program. As noted in other posts, this is a great program for those who just bought a puppy but may not have the time to introduce the basics. The Puppy Program consists of introducing the basics such as sit, place, kennel, leash manners, name association, and potty training. We also add in socialization, along with a brief introduction to recall. Enjoy the reel!
SOCIALIZED DOGS ARE TRAINABLE DOGS
Slaytors owners did a PHENOMENAL job of socializing this pup before he showed up here. Slaytor is a very biddable dog that loves to work and loves people. His progress is remarkable. I would take this dog anywhere! We will miss him at the kennel but we are excited for him to transition into his role as a great companion for an amazing family.
We’ve been getting a lot of training inquires but as of now we are still taking deposits on March and April basic obedience training.
Cute puppy alert 🚨
Blessing y’all’s timeline with some Birdie content. Notice the tail wags while she maintains her place command and waits for her name to be released. Positive association allows the pup to work with you in an eager way. This will carry over to obedience in a public setting, or the field.
Feel free to share our videos as we try to grow and reach a broader audience with our training videos this spring/summer!
PUPPY CLIENT VIDEO🚨🚨🚨 Birdie has been doing phenomenal. Repetition and a reward based system has allowed Birdie to make big jumps in her training. This is a great program for those that don’t have the time to jump start the basics with their pup. This is one of our most requested programs and we are booked through March for puppy training. Feel free to message us with any questions. Thanks for the support and shares everyone 👍🙏
Feeding time is training time for young pups.
Forgive the muddy mess, as the gang was training in soft soggy ground today. Disinfecting/cleaning tonight 😂🙃
One common question we get from our puppy clients is “when should I train my puppy?” Our answer is feeding time is always training time for younger dogs. Especially for pups who are learning a reward system and are extremely food motivated.
Gunner is wrapping up his puppy head-start training. He has a great introduction to place, sit, recall, potty training, name release, and kennel. Watch this phenomenal 12 week old puppy as he waits to feed until his name is given. We are very pleased with how Gunner has turned out.
Our puppy program is currently booked out for two months, and we are receiving more inquires daily. If you are interested in this training, get a deposit in to secure your spot! We only take one puppy client a month due to the amount of time it takes to get them the attention/training they need.
As always, thanks for the continued support!
Gunner update 🚨
Here he is waiting for his name to be released on food. Little things like releasing a dog by name on food instills an early expectation of steadiness and manners. Notice his tail wagging, eye contact, and overall eagerness to train. Gunner is excelling for only being eleven weeks old.
A consistent training schedule with a reward system shapes the desired behavior from puppies early on. If you are considering our puppy headstart program please reach out sooner than later as we aim to only take one pup in at a time due to the time it requires. Thanks again for the support everyone.
Puppy Headstart Program Client:Gunner Breed:Labrador Retriever
Lab pup Gunner has been with us for about a week going through our puppy headstart program. This is a great program that allows us to teach the pups how to learn. In the video you can see gunner doesn’t fight getting on the place board or kennel. This was accomplished in one week worth of training. The objects such as the place board/kennel have been positively associated through clickers and treats. Positive association early means less headache later. The pup learns to work with you through a reward based system.
Puppy Headstart is an introduction to place, recall, kennel, sit, “potty” training, and socialization. It is the foundation on which we build upon in later training.
Hank heads home today as he’s finished up our basic obedience program. His happy go lucky/eager to please attitude made training easy. His calm disposition will be missed around the kennel.

Thanks again for everyone that boarded with us the month of December. We can’t to see what this next year holds!
Training Spotlight! This is Hank and he is in for our on-leash Basic Obedience program. Hank has been with us for just a week. Prior to his arrival, he had never used a crate. His eagerness to learn is remarkable and we can’t wait to continue his progression.
Liza just finished up our puppy headstart program! Enjoy watching her as she waits for her food, gets adjusted to new noises, and learns her basic commands. Liza was a quick learner and didn’t take long for her to pick up on a reward system. The goal of this program is to lay a good foundation where the puppy understands a reward system and thinks for theirself when it comes to commands.
Stella-Bernadoodle
Stella is wrapping up our basic obedience program. One big thing her clients wanted addressed was her recall/steadiness. Stella is a very happy, and high energy dog. So steadiness on the “sit” command was high priority.
In this video you can see Stella remain on sit despite the extra sounds and excitement I use to get her to break. In the beginning just lightly saying “good” would cause her to break. Stella hasn’t seen an e-collar at this point in training and has been a very biddable dog through the training process. Her lines back to me on recall have gotten significantly better. She is also transitioning to off-leash heel. Stella has been Stellar.
We have a new client that came in for puppy head start! Meet Liza, she is a mini golden doodle. This is only her second day with us. Positive association is crucial. She is excelling. Notice the tail wags and eagerness to please.
As mentioned before, we offer free tune up training for basic obedience client dogs when they come in for boarding. The tune up is free you just pay the boarding rate. Neo, a 90 pound plus Rottweiler, is a basic obedience client that comes back for boarding. His owners did a phenomenal job socializing him early on. Everything you see here we accomplished at 9 months old thanks to his owners spending crucial time developing his socialization early on. I will scream it from the mountain tops. Socializing your dog should be a top priority. Reach out to us for your training needs as we would love to accommodate you! We are booked up for November and have one December opening available!
Chapel
Here is an additional video of Chapel placing at an early age. He was, and still is one confident fella.
With proper socialization and early training introduction you set the pace for a fun journey with your pup.
