Volunteer Shoutout & Transport Update!

This week, Craig hit the road Tuesday at 3 AM, making two stops in Los Angeles to deliver 5 adult dogs and 3 puppies to their new beginnings. Then he headed even farther south to pick up much-needed donations—including cooling pads that will help keep our pups comfortable.

Meanwhile, Dyan Lee and Toby were up bright and early at 6 AM on Friday, loading up 8 puppies for their journey. Both Craig and Dyan went above and beyond for our furry friends, and thanks to their efforts, our over-capacity rescue finally got a bit of breathing space. We are so grateful! 💙

Next up: San Diego Transport!
We’ve got 19 dogs heading to San Diego to catch a ride to Bend, OR, where our amazing partners at Street Dog Hero will welcome them with open arms. The date isn’t confirmed yet, but it’s likely around the 20th. Let us know if you can help out driving some of our beautiful dogs.
If you’ve got a reliable vehicle, a little time, and a whole lot of heart, we’d love your help driving some of our beautiful pups to their next chapter.
Not into driving? You can still make a huge impact by sponsoring the transport—even a donation for gas helps keep tails wagging and wheels turning. Can you help bring some dogs? Drop us a line if you are in!
Thank you for being part of this journey. Every mile matters.

Behind The Bark - “Ally’s Fight for Life

Ally came to us from Ensenada. She was so pretty with her one blue. Ally is 5 years old and 53 lb.
Behind the healthy looks though, she had TVT cancer.

We started treatments on her right away and after two TVT treatments, the bleeding started. Something was wrong. Her condition worsened. She was now fighting for her life.”

She was immediately taken to Dr. Solis. The diagnosis. Pyoderma. Pyometra. Her uterus was filled with pus. She needed emergency surgery. Dr. Solis didn’t hesitate.
Not wanting to leave her side, Dr. Solis brought her home to continue her care. Thank you for caring for her.

Ally is a warrior and is fighting.
Help us fight for dogs like Ally.
Donate. Share. Love.”
Your support gives dogs like Ally a second chance.

San Felipe Dog Rescue Responds to Brutal Puppy Abuse

Our rescue received an urgent after-hours report about a 3 to 4-month-old puppy in San Felipe in critical condition. Without hesitation, our manager Maria Elena, along with 2 other employees, Celia and Ailín, rushed to the scene and found the pup.

She had severe trauma to her mouth and front leg and needed emergency veterinary care. Despite the late hour, Dr. Solis came in to help.

The damage was horrifying: her jaw was completely shattered, and the inside of her mouth destroyed—likely by a piece of wood. She couldn’t eat or drink.

The cruelty inflicted on this innocent soul is beyond comprehension. This wasn’t just abuse. This was torture.

💔 No animal should ever endure such suffering.
💔 No community should turn a blind eye to such violence.
💔 No person capable of this horror should walk free.
To the residents of San Felipe: we must speak out. If you know anything—anything—about who did this, report it immediately. Silence shields the abuser. Action protects the vulnerable.

Dr. Solis offered to perform a complex and costly surgery pro bono to save her life. Tragically, the injuries were too severe. The only humane option was to put her to rest. A devastating outcome—but we must ensure no other animal suffers this way again.
Thank you, Dr. Solis, for your compassion. And thank you, to our dedicated staff, for acting without delay to try and save her.

🐾 Eight Dogs Make Their Trek to the US 🇺🇸

At 3 AM yesterday, long-term residents Duke, Pantera, Acacia, Ash, and Aspen—along with puppies Cecy, Jorge, and Kelo—began the next chapter of their lives. After over 400 days in our care (and just 11 days for the pups), they were transported to two incredible rescue partners in Los Angeles.

We’re so proud of their journey and deeply grateful to:
💙 Our volunteers who diligently walked them whenever possible 💙 Our staff who loved and cared for them
💙 Our rescue partners who welcomed them with open arms
A huge thank you to Craig for driving these dogs up so early in the morning. It is a long trip and we are truly grateful.

Here’s to new beginnings, wagging tails, and forever homes!

🌟 MAGIC FINDS HER MIRACLE

From the harsh streets of Ensenada to the loving arms of her forever family—Magic’s story is nothing short of extraordinary.

On Aug 23rd she arrived at our rescue, scared but full of hope. Thirteen days later she headed home with David and Karen Mier, who instantly saw the light in her eyes and knew she was meant to be theirs.

Her transformation is a reminder of what love, compassion, and second chances can do. 💕

Welcome home, Magic. You’re proof that magic is real—and it lives in every rescue story.

Magic’s journey from Ensenada to a forever home is a beautiful reminder of what rescue can do. But she’s not alone—our rescue is full of incredible souls just like her, each waiting for their own miracle.

🐾 Abandoned, But Not Forgotten: Billy’s Story

On August 31st, our staff arrived at 6 a.m. to begin the day—only to find a surprise waiting at our doorstep. A pitbull was tied up out front, left alone overnight. At first, we thought he might be waiting for someone. But it quickly became clear: he’d been abandoned.

We’re already stretched beyond capacity. Whoever left Billy didn’t seem to care. They simply had no more use for him.

Billy’s temperament was unknown, and our rescue isn’t equipped to handle aggressive dogs. We were faced with a difficult decision. But then, something unexpected happened.

Just beyond Billy’s spot was Paris, our female pitbull, along with Lexi and Luke—two pups she had lovingly raised. Paris showed a keen interest in Billy. So, with caution and care, we introduced them.

It worked. Billy, Paris, Lexi, and Luke now share a space and a bond. This time, the story had a happy ending.

But what if it hadn’t?

Abandoning dogs is never the answer. It puts the animal at risk—and jeopardizes the very rescues trying to help. We were lucky. Billy was lucky. But luck shouldn’t be the only thing standing between a dog and disaster.

Billy’s story had a happy ending—but not every dog is so lucky. Every day, we face impossible choices with limited space, limited resources, and unlimited need.

Your support makes stories like Billy’s possible. With your donation, we can keep saying yes—to the abandoned, the forgotten, and the ones who just need a second chance.

Quien dejó a Billy no pareció preocuparse.

SFDR Receives Generous Grant for "Saving Lives. Creating Change"

San Felipe Dog Rescue (SFDR), located in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico, is proud to announce it is the recipient of a generous grant from Marchig Animal Welfare Trust, a UK registered charity. The Trust was established in 1989 by the late Madame Jeanne Marchig of Geneva, in memory of her husband painter Giannino Marchig. Objectives of the Trust are to protect animals and to promote and encourage practical work in preventing animal cruelty and the relief of animal suffering.
The Trust recognized the dedication and commitment of SFDR, and chose to support its efforts on a campaign, "Saving Lives. Creating Change." The program aims to provide food, vaccines, and medical care, plus create change by spaying and neutering dogs - essentially getting dogs off the streets and ready for adoption and furever homes.
The country of Mexico has the largest number of street dogs in Latin America. SFDR and its loyal volunteers and supporters work tirelessly to rescue, care for and rehabilitate dogs - in order to
give the areas street dogs a fighting chance at a better life with a loving family.

🐶 Spay & Neuter Myths—Busted!

Myth 1: My pet needs to have one litter first. Fact: There’s no medical or behavioral benefit to letting your pet have a litter. In fact, early spaying reduces the risk of cancers and infections.

Myth 2: It will change my pet’s personality. Fact: Your pet’s loving nature stays the same. What may change are hormone-driven behaviors like aggression, roaming, or marking.

Myth 3: It will make my pet overweight. Fact: Weight gain is about food and exercise—not surgery. With proper care, your pet stays fit and happy.

Myth 4: My male pet will lose his “masculinity.” Fact: Pets don’t have ego or identity tied to reproduction. Neutering reduces health risks and doesn’t affect their joy or loyalty.

Myth 5: I can find homes for all the puppies/kittens. Fact: Every home taken by a litter could’ve saved a shelter animal. Overpopulation leads to millions of euthanized pets each year.

Myth 6: It’s too expensive. Fact: Many clinics offer low-cost or free services. The cost of an unplanned litter—or preventable illness—is far higher.

🌎 Why It Matters
Spaying and neutering isn’t just about preventing litters—it’s about protecting your pet’s health, reducing suffering, and building a more compassionate community.
