I love Maya's fierce stare. In actuality, once she warms up to you, she's a total sweetheart! She is definitely a little spooked by certain things, but we have been practicing her reactivity on walks, and she seems to be gaining confidence a little more each time. Way to go Maya!

Sometimes people see larger breeds like this and think, "uh-oh"

Ironically, these are two of the sweetest dogs I've worked with. Jaxx and Henry just want to play or be close to the humans.

We are working on loose leash walking and reactivity, and they're doing quite well so far! Keep up the good work guys

Got word from a previous client that their adorable bully, "Porkchop" has been doing great with their reactivity and isn't hassling the other dogs in the house anymore.

Check out these 2 cute pups! This is Georgie and Cookie! I will tell you, they are so entertaining in person! They clearly like each other, but their behaviors are very different.

Cookie is working on building her confidence up a bit, and Georgie is working on toning it down ... Too bad they can't just share a little bit of those behaviors together.

But they are totally on the right path, and I know that they're going to excel!

With lovely weather like this, and clear blue skies, it's hard to believe that snow is on the way! But living in the Pnw, we know that the weather can change by the hour!

If snow and ice does arrive, and you take your dog out anyway, be sure to be mindful of snow, mud, or ice packing between your dogs paws. This can happen, and is rather uncomfortable for your pup.

So be sure to periodically check between their toes and pads, and there are also paw waxes and products available that can help prevent packing or build up from happening in the first place, such as "Mushers secret" which also helped condition and relieve your dogs dry paws as well.

Stay warm, and have fun! Winter weather can be beautiful and adventurous, let's make sure it stays fun for your pups as well!

This is yet another really well written and informative book by one of my favorite authors and dog trainer, Alexandria Horowitz.
I wouldn't say it's exactly a direct training book or guide, but it is full of really cool and insightful information about how our dog sense the world around them.
It's really cool to get a glimpse into their psychology and what motivates their behavior!

Today was an absolute beautiful day to take zero for a nice long walk at the park. We don't always get so much Sunshine during the winter, so I made sure to take it full advantage of it!

For those gloomy and rainy winter days, even if you can't get your dog out on their walk, they can greatly benefit from playtime, puppy push-ups or obedience training, or just a good extended play session. A tired dog is a well-behaved dog, haha.

Ooooh my goodness... They don't get much cuter than this! Pearl here is showing off her nest sit skills. She has been rocking her dog obedience training, and was even pretty dang good at loose leash walking!
She is still a young pup, but is well on her way to being a well-rounded, well-trained dog... And she's also cute as a button! Keep up the awesome work Pearl!

When I show up to a client's home and see something like this at the front door, I know I'm at a place that really cares about their dog.

There are so many dogs waiting in shelters for loving homes, no matter what age or breed you are looking for, there's a good chance you could find your dream dog.

If you are looking for a specific breed, there are also a lot of specific breed rescue organizations, so a quick search online may reveal some near you!

And once they are ready for some dog obedience training, I of course offer dog obedience, puppy, and reactivity dog training too, in person and online!

A dog experiences much of the world through its mouth. Some have even said a dog is a mouth with legs! This is one of the reasons why it is so beneficial to have a chew toy, or an activity, that lets your dog get those instinctual chewing behaviors out. I prefer to use nylabones, or other chew toys. If you do give your dog real bones, be sure that they are not poultry or cooked bones, as they can splinter, and possibly cause your dog injury. Let's help your dog love it's crate space!

When you're walking your dog, give them some time to sniff around. Dogs gather valuable information from scents, and it will help them drain mental energy while the walk helps drain their physical energy! An easy 2 for 1!

If your dog is reacting on leash, giving them a task to do, or distracting them, is one way to help bring them under control 🙂
