It's time for some more foal photos!

Thank you to all connections for trusting us with your mares and foals this season. We are blessed to be a part of these amazing teams! ❤️🙏

These foals were born all across the U.S., specifically Pennsylvania, Arkansas (thank you, Leadem Farm!), and Idaho. Thank you to all for sharing these adorable pictures with us! 🐎💗 Such great looking foals this year!

The season has slowly been winding down, and it's soon time to switch to our summer hours. Monitoring is now available year-round, from 10pm to 6am ET starting June 1st. From now until the first, availability is from 10pm-8am ET.

Happy foaling, everybody!

I am so excited to be able to offer these VetTrue tailtabs by Epona Biotec to my friends and clients! These temperature monitoring tabs are a complete game changer when you're dealing with sick horses 🙌

They're easy to apply, cost effective, and they chart your horse's temperature every 5 minutes. The data populates in an easy to use app that charts with color coded bars, making a fever temperature easy to view at a quick glance.
Nemo was my little test dummy, and the technology worked perfectly (even at a remote pasture with no electricity or internet). They're the perfect addition to any barn's vet kit.

If any of my friends are interested in trying one out or ordering some, please send me a message and I'll get you hooked up! CRF Remote Equine Monitoring is currently the only distributor in North America, we are so proud and excited to offer this technology to the equine community here! ❤️

Happy Valentine's Day!

Check out these fun facts about your horse's heart, from COWGIRL Magazine

"- At a full gallop, your horse’s heart rate can jump up to 240 beats per minute. The typical resting heart rate is 30-40 beats per minute though.

-On average, they weigh between 8 and 10 pounds or 1% of your horse’s body weight. A human’s heart only weighs 0.5 to 0.8 pound in comparison.

-Like yours, it has four chambers- a right and left atrium that receive blood and two ventricles that pump blood.

-This organ regulates the nervous system and body heat. It’s responsible for calming your horse and getting them to sweat.

-Heart attacks are not very common in horses, though they are at risk for heart disease. This risk increases with age!"

March Mare Madness has been a labor of love, Foal Pro and I are so excited to bring this new charity event to the equine community!
For more details, please follow the page March Mare Madness

We are still seeking participant mares, please read this shared post for more details on how to get involved- or send me a message!

"March Mare Madness" is a charity event born from a collaboration between CRF Equine Services and Foal Pro. From this event, we’ve decided to form a nonprofit, Mare Madness Co., to manage the fund and create more fundraising opportunities. The fund will aid responsible breeders during unexpected financial crises related to foaling.

For the game March Mare Madness, we have been compiling a database of 68 mares that are expected to foal in/around March.
To play, evaluate the mares in our mare database and place them in a chronological list.

This is a point-based game; earn 5 points for each mare correctly placed, and earn 3 additional points for correctly guessing the gender. The top 3 scoring players win!

If we get enough entries to cover the full cost of a nurse mare, FoalPro will donate a foaling kit as a prize (Let’s get competitive, yall!). Other prizes will include Gift Baskets from our sponsors. Each player may enter as many times as they like, but scores are not cumulative- each entry is separate.

Entries open January 1st and close February 29th.
$10 to enter
$30 for an upgraded entry, which includes the 2024 March Mare Madness Tshirt

We are still looking for more mares; it is free to enter a mare! Deadline is December 31st
To enter, please visit: https://www.marchmaremadness.org/?fbclid=IwAR3cLy1FSqC7AIMNWp_8QLVt6PLhUtzUeLMdsZtDyZhBTB0ymYDkpv-6_4k Click on the farm entry form.

We would like to ask participating farms to please donate merch from their organization (tshirt, hat, etc. Send to CRF Equine Services, 313 W. Main St, Rangely, Colorado, 81648). Merch will be compiled into gift baskets for the winners.

We also offer a sponsorship level, that gives you a spot on the 2024 March Mare Madness T-shirt ($40 to become a Sponsor). To become a sponsor, please email [email protected]

I want to take a minute to give Amy at Unbridled Form a huge shoutout! This site has been a long time in the making, and she has been here since day 1! When I started offering my services to the public, Amy's refined and personal style caught my eye. She has the ability to perfectly capture a client's vision for their brand while paying attention to all of the fine details that make an impact. The time was finally right for CRF to get a site by Amy. This website redesign brought tears to my eyes and perfectly captures what I see when I think of CRF. Thank you, Amy, for all your hard work, dedication, and professionalism!

This is Dottie's baby, Secret- such a playful, and adorable little foal!😍

30/05/2023

Did you know newborn foals enter the world without antibodies? Foals depend on antibodies ingested through their mare’s colostrum in first few hours of life to protect them from their new world filled with bacteria. We strongly advise an IgG snap test ran 12-24 hours after birth to ensure adequate passive transfer. The snap test on the right is of a successful absorption of antibodies shown by the bright blue dot in the center. The test on the left shows failure of passive transfer (FPT = no dot at all) which means no antibodies absorbed by the foal leaving the foal defenseless and highly susceptible to infection. A plasma transfusion is advised for foals with failure or partial failure of passive transfer of antibodies to adequately support them and aid in preventing sepsis. FPT foals typically act “healthy and normal” in the first 12-24 hours then decline rapidly. That is why an IgG test is the only way to know truly if they received adequate colostrum!

Waiting for a new foal’s arrival can be quite the trial of patience. So while you’re waiting, make sure you’re prepared so you aren’t scrambling during the big event! Here’s some ideas of what to keep on hand in your foaling kit:

-Thermometer
-Towels
-Chlorhexidine or Betadine
-Saline E***a
-Exam Gloves

What do you like to keep on hand for foaling?

And that's a wrap on the season for Leadem Farm! They ended their season with a beautiful filly. Congratulations! 🎉🩷🐴

This lovely bunch of mares and foals are from Saratoga Glen Farm in New York; all foalings that I've alerted for!
This is our third season working together- right since I started doing remote foaling watch.
I want to give a huge THANK YOU to the Barraclough Family for the support over the years, and for everything that y'all do for these horses. I've beared witness to some of the hard work and dedication they've put into getting these foals on the ground- it's certainly not an easy feat and not for the faint of heart. They get it done year after year, and with impeccable care. A tremendous job well done.👏♥️
