🐾 ADOPTED 🐾

This is what Kevin’s foster mom has to say about this sweetheart…

Kevin has been waiting so long and I just don’t understand why no one has adopted this boy 😭 We have broken Kevin out of the shelter for a couple nights and learned a little more than we already knew about him. Once settled in, he enjoys goofing around with his friend and hanging out. Kevin is dog friendly and got along fine with my dogs, male and female. He also doesn’t mind my cat and enjoys being around my kids! Kevin is mouthy and vocal when he plays. None of which we find to be aggressive in nature. He will open his mouth, grunt, growl, bark and nibble on his playmate or your arms, lol. My one dog is a mouthy player too, so they got along well. This could likely be corrected if it was a concern for someone. We never hear him bark outside of playing. Kevin is house trained and will go in a crate with little hesitation. We are crating him while gone, but he slept out of it all night with no issues at all. He sits nice for his treats and is gentle when taking them. He is a gentleman on the leash and rides nicely in the car. I think Kevin would do fine in a home with or without other dogs. He’d be happy if he just has something to play with or someone to tug on a rope with. Needs work on general commands like sit, stay, down etc. Kevin is going to make a best friend for someone…he just needs a chance to show what a good boy he can be! If you are looking to adopt or even foster, please consider meeting Kevin at the Berkeley Animal Center.

WOW! In just ONE weekend, the Berkeley County Community Cats team spayed or neutered 175 feral cats! This team is composed of MSPCA-Angell staff & veterinarians (a rescue partner of BAC), as well as Berkeley Animal Center volunteers, staff, and YOU - the community!

This group effort has already begun reducing the feral cat population in Berkeley County, with the total number of cats TNVR'd since April already in the 700s!

Their next dates are in October, and even though they take an average of 75 cats a day, spaces fill up FAST, so make sure to follow the BCCC page for more information if you are caring for feral cats in our area!

#2 in our line up of "6 ways to help" is... FOSTERING!

Fostering is not only incredibly rewarding, but it literally saves lives. With new animals entering the shelter system daily, it is important to move them into foster homes to provide space for new intakes. Being in a home environment not only helps the animal decompress, but it gives the foster the opportunity to learn more about them and what their perfect forever family may look like.

While living on-site, animals are kept in pop up crates, kennels or cages for an average of 23.5 hours a day making foster homes a valuable asset.

Fostering is a short term commitment, with tons of different timeline options.

🔹 Until adoption
- promote, advertise, and push them for adoption

️🔹 ️Until pulled by rescue
- a local or out of state rescue has made space for them

🔹 ️Rovernight/weekend
- 1 to 3 nights out of the shelter

🔹️ There is never a set amount of time or any pressure to keep them longer than you can.

During their time in foster, all supplies are provided for the animal... litter, food, toys, a crate, collar and leash, anything that they may be need. All medical care is also covered through BAC.

🔹️ Animals under 8 weeks old can't stay in the shelter alone overnight.

🔹️Foster during heartworm treatment is usually a 2-3 month commitment.

For current foster testimonials, please watch:

To become a Berkeley Animal Center foster, please visit the shelter during their open hours 1pm to 5pm Tuesday through Saturday. To foster a dog, please bring any dogs or kids in the home to ensure a good fit.

We want to talk about 6️⃣ ways the community can support Berkeley Animal Center and help the homeless animals of Berkeley County.

First in the line up... VOLUNTEERING!

Volunteers play a vital role in everyday shelter life whether they are walking dogs, doing laundry, attending events, helping clean cat cages... there is truly a need and role for everything and an extra set of hands and a kind heart goes a long way when it comes to caring for the animals that live on-site.

Daily volunteers:
🔹️ Walk and exercise the dogs
🔹 Do shelter chores like dishes and laundry
️🔹️ Clean cat cages/free roam room
🔹️ Sort and organize donations

To learn more about volunteering:
https://animalcenter.berkeleycountysc.gov/volunteer-2/

Additional ways to volunteer:
🔹️ Volunteers are needed weekly to help recover animals from their spay/neuter surgeries.

🔹️The Doggies-Day-Out program is a great way to get dogs out of the shelter and let them decompress for the day. Grab a dog and take them out on the town between 10am-4:30pm.

🔹️ Volunteers are needed to handle dogs at adoption events.

🔹️Berkeley County Community Cats needs volunteers for their TNVR (trap/neuter/vaccinate/release) dates. Follow their page to learn more.

🔹️Friends of Berkeley Animal Center needs volunteers for their off-site events. Follow their page to learn more.

🔹️Volunteers are needed that can bake or create items that can be sold at Heroes for Hearts bake sales.

On-site volunteer hours are 9am-close daily.
Must be 12 or older.

Stay tuned to learn about 🐾 FOSTERING 🐾 next...

Are you looking for a laid back, dog & kid friendly, snuggly hound to add to your family? Then look no further! Piper is here!

Piper is 4 years old and has spent the last 82 days in the Berkeley Animal Center shelter system. She has been in a loving foster home, but she is ready to find her forever family and start her next chapter.

She is a calm, mild mannered girl that gets along great with the small dog and child in her foster home. Her quirky and sweet personality has come out and she has the cutest breakfast time howl. She loves to curl up and snuggle. She is potty trained, heartworm negative, spayed, microchipped, and UTD on vaccines.

If you are interested in meeting Piper, please send us a message with your contact information!

*Piper is also in need of a foster takeover. If you can't adopt her, but still want to help, please consider fostering her and helping her find her family. All supplies are provided.

💙 Update: Suzie is in a foster home but still looking for her FOREVER home! Please message us to arrange a meet and greet!

Suzie has been waiting for 8️⃣7️⃣ days and it just doesn't make any sense 😥

Suzie got to attend an adoption event today, and outside of the shelter environment, she did INCREDIBLE meeting new dog and human friends... she was all tail wags and smiles! She was curious and playful towards puppies and the few older pups she saw as well. She enjoyed her time out but unfortunately didn't get adopted... so she's back at the shelter.

She is a fun, friendly, and outgoing girl. She enjoys a good zoomies session in the yard and a bone filled with something yummy while she relaxes. She is 2 years old and is energetic, easy-going in new situations, and she even loves to play in the water. She didn't even mind dressing up in her Saturday best! She is a great car rider and would make an awesome co-pilot. She loves people, is good with kids, and she is easy and patient when waiting for treats. Her kennel is usually clean in the mornings and on her Doggie Day Outs, she shows signs of being housebroken.

Suzie really wants to find a FOSTER or FOREVER home soon. 87 days is a long time to sit alone in a concrete kennel. She just needs someone to give her the chance she deserves.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting Suzie, please bring any dogs and/or kids that are in the home and visit her at Berkeley Animal Center Tuesday through Saturday between 1pm and 5pm. Currently, her adoption fee is only $20. She is spayed, microchipped and UTD on vaccines.

Update: Zion is in a foster home but is still looking for his FOREVER home. Please message us to arrange a meet & greet ❤

I'm Zion 🐾 I'm looking for a FOSTER or FOREVER home.

I'm a reserved 2 year old male and I am neutered, microchipped and UTD on vaccines. I am good with kids and get very happy when I see other dogs. I'd likely do well with a confident dog that can show me the ropes of my home, so if you'd like to meet me, please bring yours with you so we can make sure we are a good match.

The shelter is loud and I am scared. I dream of a home filled with love, toys, and a cozy bed just for me. I think I'd really come out of my shell once I get into a home and feel safe and secure.

If you foster me, all my toys, food, a crate, and anything else I might need will be provided to you. We can learn more about each other and you can help me find my forever family! That sounds great, doesn't it? If you'd rather just adopt me and love me forever, my adoption fee is only $20! Can you believe that?!

I hope you can help me. I'd love to meet you... and please understand why I might be a little shy at first. I am waiting at Berkeley Animal Center for someone to come for me.

ISO: a foster 💙

This sweet beagle mix needs a foster home so he can rest and recover from his upper respiratory/kennel cough. He's only about 35 lbs and is a quiet and friendly boy. He just wanted to be petted and stood there patiently just like this every time I walked by.

He is HW- and just needs a place to crash until he's feeling all better. He is on meds.

He hasn't been dog tested or cat tested yet so bring your pups with you and staff can cat test if needed, but hounds are usually very easygoing.

If you can help, please visit Berkeley Animal Center! All supplies are provided.

Haven't fostered before and have questions? Don't hesitate to ask!

Meet Chance! 🐾

Chance is a 1.5 year old bulldog mix that weighs about 70lbs. He has been at the shelter for about a month and is officially ready to move on to greener pastures - whether that's a FOSTER or FOREVER home! He is fully adoptable and is neutered, microchipped and UTD on vaccines.

While very sweet, friendly, and happy, Chance is a BIG BABY who needs some work on his manners. He loves toys, especially stuffed animals and would like someone who is as active, fun, and outgoing as he is.

The biggest thing that Chance needs work on is leash walking. In his year and a half of life, we don't think he has ever been on a leash before and he thinks the leash is a toy. He was curious and playful when he saw other dogs walking. We think it would be beneficial for staff and volunteers to have a chain leash to use while walking Chance so he can get the outside time that he deserves. This would go to his foster or forever home with him. Unfortunately, there are many dogs like him that come through the shelter doors every year... simple behavioral issues keeping them from their second chance...

So, what does he need to succeed?

✳️ Social media advocates to share this post. It only takes ONE person, the right person, to fall inlove or jump in to help!

✳️ A chain leash so he can learn to enjoy walks:

✳️ A temporary foster home where he can decompress and figure out family life. Fosters help advocate for adoption. All supplies are provided.

✳️ A forever family that will continue working with him to ensure he becomes his best self! His adoption fee is currently $20.

If you'd like to foster or adopt Chance, please visit him Tuesday through Saturday between 1pm and 5pm. Bring any dogs or kids in the home to ensure a great fit!

Looking for a pumpkin patch bestie for this fall? Someone to take in the crisp autumn air with on neighborhood walks? A movie partner for Hocus Pocus 2?

🧡 Look no further... Pumpkin Spice is ready to find her forever family and she will be waiting to meet you TOMORROW, Saturday 9/3, between 1pm and 4pm at Berkeley Animal Center! 🧡

Pumpkin Spice is about 3 months old and is a spunky, loving, and fun puppy. She is socialized with cats, dogs, kids, and even pigs and is curious and playful with everyone! She enjoys snuggling on the couch, playing with her toys, and exploring the backyard for new things. She does resource guard her food from other dogs, but she eats her meals well in her crate and is learning new manners every single day! She sleeps through the night and is doing good with potty training. She is very food motivated and likes all kinds of treats.

She would love for her morning routine to consist of bed snuggles, a chew toy, and a yummy breakfast.

She's a rich chocolate brown with light eyes, and has a personality to match her beauty!

She is spayed, microchipped and UTD on age appropriate vaccines!

Don't miss the chance to make Pumpkin Spice YOURS! Meet her tomorrow at 131 Central Berkeley Dr in Moncks Corner! Bring any dogs or kids to ensure a great fit!
