*The best way to get in touch with us is by sending us a Facebook message!*
All of our dogs are 100% purebred, AKC registered Golden Retrievers. Our puppies are sold with limited AKC registration papers with the option of full registration for an extra fee. All of our golden parents are genetically health tested by Embark. By clicking the Photos tab of our page, you can find photo albu

ms for each of our goldens, as well as their previous litters. Before taking your puppy home, he/she will receive age appropriate dewormings, coccidia prevention, and first set of shots & wellness exam by our licensed vet. We send our puppies home with a take home bag that includes puppy food, a blanket & toy with mom's & siblings' scent, medical record, 30 days of free pet insurance, and more! We feed our puppies Purina Pro Plan Large Breed Chicken & Rice puppy food. Your puppy will have been socialized by children, adults, cats, large dogs, and small dogs. After our goldens have bred, we will begin taking names for the waiting list. An application is required to be added to the list. When the puppies are born, we will begin taking non-refundable deposits/holding fees to reserve your spot for pick order. The remaining cost of the puppy is due in cash at time of pick-up. After sending your deposit and signing the deposit agreement, you will be invited to join an exclusive Facebook group for the litter. We will post weekly photo and/or video updates to the group as well as milestones that the puppies have accomplished. This group will also be used for "pupdates" for you to post as your puppy grows! Our puppy selection process goes by order of the waitlist. When the puppies are born, we will start at the top of the waiting list and move down according to how many puppies we have. If there are enough puppies for your spot on the list, we will send you the birth announcement which will include all necessary details and you will have 6 hours to send your deposit. Failure to send the deposit within 6 hours will result in losing your spot on the waitlist and your pick order. Puppies will be chosen the weekend after they turn 7 weeks old. You may also take your puppy home after picking him/her out. We will create an appointment for everyone to see and choose their puppy to ensure that puppies are being chosen in the order of the waitlist. If you’re unable to make your appointment in person, you can choose your puppy virtually through videochat or pictures & videos. Each puppy will wear a different colored ID collar so we can tell them apart. For the safety of our puppies, this is the ONLY day in which buyers can come to pick/meet their puppy in person. We offer to meet/deliver puppies for a fee. Buyers are required to sign a contract agreeing that they will have their puppy seen by their vet within 72 hours of pick-up. The contract also states that buyers cannot rehome the golden without our written permission. Getting a new puppy is so exciting! We do our best to ensure we are providing sweet, healthy puppies to good homes so you all can live The Golden Life! Please feel free to message our page anytime with any questions! :)

This! Spending the extra money on a WELL-bred puppy is worth reducing the risk of spending several thousands down the road!

Hi! Tonight I wanted to share one of our mistakes so it can be a learning opportunity for others.

Our first two Aussies ever were Asher and Nola. We got them one month apart our second year of college, and they have been the best decisions of our lives! They are the dogs that got us into breeding and that made us fall in love with this amazing breed. However… we failed to look into genetic testing and failed to look into breeders that did OFA/pennhip testing on their dogs when we bought Asher and Nola. We got lucky with Asher, however, we did not get so lucky with Nola. Nola was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia at just 3 years old. Fast forward to now, she is 9 years old, and her hips have progressed so rapidly, that she needs to have two total hip replacements… the cost of this surgery is unfathomable for most owners… 12 THOUSAND per hip. That’s 24 THOUSAND DOLLARS. Let me repeat that 24 THOUSAND DOLLARS. Luckily, I am a fourth year vet student and get half off through the vet school, so it will cost us ONLY a whopping 12 thousand. Buying Nola will never ever be a decision that we will ever regret. She is the reason we love this breed!! HOWEVER, the pain of having to spend 12-24 thousand dollars could have been avoided had we done our research and bought from a breeder who did all of the testing needed to increase the likelihood that hip dysplasia would not be a factor.

I say all of this because most people don’t want to spend the extra 1-2k to get a dog from a good breeder who does all genetic testing and OFA and ensures that their dogs are as healthy as possible. You are setting yourself up for failure if you do not buy from a breeder who does this testing. You are setting yourself up to spend 24 THOUSAND DOLLARS when you could have only paid 1-2k. Please read my post and seriously reconsider who you buy your next dog from. Or even cat. Please don’t put yourself in the position that we have put ourselves in. This was a learning opportunity for us, and boy have we learned!!

That being said, we have a gofundme set up for Nola that is pinned at the top of our page should you feel obliged to donate. Being a fourth year vet student, I am obviously not rich (haha), but I will be sure to make these surgeries happen one way or another ❤️

Living The Golden Life

Hello! The Golden Life is a small family breeding program owned by Tamara Elders and her three daughters, Shaylee, Alyssa, and Lyda Rose. We have a big love for dogs and Golden Retrievers have always been our favorite breed. We currently have 2 breeding females (SunShine and Sadie) and one breeding male (Bentley). We breed 2 litters per year. Maple is our newest member of The Golden Life and she will also get to be a mom in a couple of years.

SunShine was our first golden. She was our Christmas present that we received in December 2016. We just adored her so much that we decided to get our second golden, Bentley, nine months later. We had thought about breeding golden retrievers for a long time, and after seeing their wonderful personalities, beautiful faces and coloring, and how healthy they were, we decided to let SunShine and Bentley have a litter. On December 1st, 2018, our first litter was born. SunShine gave birth to eleven perfect puppies. The whelping process was so easy, and SunShine was a natural! We had no trouble finding the best families for our puppies and they still keep in touch with us by sending “pupdates” every so often. Those eight weeks were pretty challenging as we were learning what to do for the first time, but it was so worth being able to play with chubby, fluffy puppies all the time! We realized that breeding and raising golden retrievers is something we definitely want to keep doing.

After the first litter went home, we started missing the puppies fast and decided to get another golden puppy ASAP. We started searching for puppies on facebook, and that’s where we found our sweet Sadie. We drove all the way to Virginia to pick Sadie up, and the 18-hour round trip was so worth it! We were amazed at how calm and laid back Sadie was, and I realized that’s a common trait found in English Cream Goldens (both of Sadie’s parents are half english cream).

We welcomed Maple Caroline into The Golden Life fam in January of 2020. She came from a great breeder in Red Oak, North Carolina. Maple comes from fantastic bloodlines and we were so lucky to get her because her litter was the last before her breeder retired. Maple is SO smart. She learned how to sit, shake, lay down, roll over, and spin before she was 4 months old!
