Don't leave a bowl out for your dog to eat whenever they want! Why?
✅ It'll make your dog fat and unhealthy!
✅ It'll ruin your relationship like a spoiled kid"s relationship is ruined with their parents
✅They won't value food and will be harder to train
✅They will be unfulfilled and "act out" more from frustration and pent up energy
✅Food can create conflict and resource guarding
✅You'll miss one of the only opportunities we often have to interact directly with our dogs
✅Your dog will like their food more

It only takes a couple of minutes to feed your dog. Your convenience is not more important than your dog's well-being.

Real dog training advice. Recall is the #1 skill that can make or break your relationship with your dog. If you don't take the steps necessary to teach them how to come back to you when you call them, don't let them off-leash. All dogs can learn recall. If your dog doesn't know recall, it's because you didn't teach them. Take responsibility and put a long line on them every time you want them to have more freedom to run around, even if it's in your back yard.

Counter conditioning. Even though he isn't reacting now, doesn't mean he won't react later when there is a less experienced handler, strange dogs and an overstimulating environment. So we must counter condition his response in general and therefore his behavior. That means lots of repetition of being around other dogs in a positive and calm way WHILE ON A LEASH in many environments. Off-leash he would be fine with the other dogs. So we must focus on the issue and counter that usual picture of reactivity while ON-LEASH. We must make sure to not just give in and let him off- leash because it's easier in the moment. Behavior change takes effort and stress on the thing you want to improve on until it becomes easy and a part of who you are. The stress just needs to be tolerable and not devastating. Although I'm giving him food rewards in the video, the food is not how I achieved this. This dog is very obedient, yet still reactive. So it wasn't the obedience that did this. It was the simple fact that I corrected him with a leash pop when he first started to show signs of reacting. Essentially I told him "no" with the leash. It wasn't very intense at all. The timing was good but other than that, there was no magic. It's not because I'm extremely handsome. It's not because I gave him snuggles and used a baby voice, it's not because I was super mean or inappropriate in any way. It's because of a simple, timely and appropriate correction. Really, this dog doesn't want to be reactive. Really, this dog isn't at all aggressive. He just hasn't been told "no". It's not over yet and the exposure to the trigger in a positive way is where the rest of the journey continues but the small correction sure did improve the situation to a level that would not have been possible without it. #dogtraining #reactivedogs #scarydogs #scareddogs #gooddogs #nobaddogs #dogs
