Handling a big dog can be hard! Kima came to us for some serious pulling! She’s only 10 month old but is very big and strong! She had worked extensively with another trainer with no results. Every so often we rehabilitate a dog for leash reactivity and they are great out in public but still struggle with that one dog in the neighborhood. 🐾We call it their nemesis. 😂This is typically the dog that charges the fence barking aggressively when they walk past or that loses their mind passing on walks. That was the case here with these two. The beautiful Border Collie on the right is named Lucas and trained up beautifully for us but his dad was still struggling with this little Shihtzu from his hood, on the left. So, we made a home visit and helped the boys to make peace. Now, their families can actually walk together and chat without worry about all the prior nonsense. Good job guys! As you guys know, we love the place command! It is our go to for calm in the house and helping the dog to understand what we would like them to, as opposed to getting in trouble for doing the wrong thing. Step one to teaching the place command is getting the dog to send to their place, usually a cot or bed. Here, we are teaching the dog to send to the exact place we are asking for. This requires them to pay attention to our non-verbal cues such as: 👉where our eyes are looking 👉where we are facing 👉where we are pointing.
