“Self Carriage Saturday”
A good reminder that at a point in our horses learnings, you shouldn’t feel like you’re having to work hard to hold your horse together.
Give them the skills and muscles they need to properly hold and carry themselves to engage their core, back, and hind end.
The goal: to ride the horse as a “full package” and add support when needed…. Not feel like you’re constantly scooping up the pieces and hoping the tape holds!
Happy Saturday, friends! 🤠

We’ve got a handful of new faces in the program and I can’t wait to introduce them all!

📣First up📣

Meet “Fuse”- a 4yo. QH gelding who is just as smart as he is cute!

Fuse and I are working together to help him be more consistent and solid under saddle, as well as learning how to use his body and muscles properly to help him develop into the fancy boy he’s bound to be!

He’s wrapping up his first week here, and we are loving how quickly he’s catching on. 🦄

Some favorite moments from a few of today’s rides!

Are these quick snaps how our whole ride looked?
For some of theses horses- yes.
For some- no... and that’s okay!

These small moments will continue to build and grow as all the puzzle pieces come together. Be present and proud of the journey- it’ll all be worth it in the end!

Huge day here at OA!!

You may remember hearing about Lily this past October- when she survived a serious colic that required surgery and a long recovery.
Lily’s owner Dailey has been so dedicated to Lily’s return to riding and we are over the moon excited to share this picture from their first ride back!!
Dailey’s smile says it all... congrats you two!!💜

Life is flooded with dead lines, due dates, and schedules. These are expected for work, paying bills, maintenance spots, etc. These cannot be expected when working with horses. I see a lot of people rushing their horses then being frustrated when holes appear in their foundation. Timelines mean nothing to a horse. Turn your back to the clocks and calendars. Set attainable goals, work towards them, celebrate successes and always work within your horses mental and physical means as well as your own. The growth will come and I can almost guarantee you will benefit from it just as much as your horse will. 💜

Often times my personal youngsters get put on the back burner because training horses come first... but I’ve been blessed with my two 3 year olds, and 2 year old. Even with inconsistency from me, they still walk into the arena ready to work like ole pro’s. Here’s to the good ones like you, Koe! 💜

We’ve been busy busy busy around the farm this month, but had a few seconds to unwind today. Corey spent some time putting some miles on our newest c**t- “Bronze Medal” aka Koe- a 3 yo. ottb from Ohio. We are looking forward to his future and can’t wait to find the perfect job for him! Welcome to OA, Koe! 🦄

Just like each of you - there is so much going on behind the scenes for me right now. I have a dear friend dealing with an absolutely critical next 5 months, a dear friend who’s horse is fighting for her life at UGA, I have received some devastating news about my personal heart horse and have been dealing with a colicky horse all week. Put that in perspective, along with personal health obstacles, and it means the past month, my two riding horses have really taken a back burner.

They have gone from being ridden 5+ days a week to maybe 1-2 depending on the week. This was absolutely stressing me out. And it really hit me today. Why is there so much pressure in the equine world to always be riding, always be working towards the next best thing?

I am all for goals and squashing those goals. But I have found recently I am all for falling in love with my horses again the way I did 20+ years ago. I’ve had to force myself to slow down and remember how much I enjoy spending time grooming my broodmares, trail riding my race horses, just being with my horses and remembering why I even fell in love with horses in the first place.

I believe, and I agree your top horses should be in competition shape, but I also believe it’s okay for yours and their heart and mind to take a break and take a back road. Forget the pressures of the competitive world, forget all the bad and all the scaries that are happening outside the saddle and remember to just love your horse. Just be thankful for that time with you and your horse. You truly never know when it will be the last ride.
