🥁 it's time for 🥁
THE JAILHOUSE ROCK!
Today's mission was a huge success with our fearless leader Teresa and Amber Smith in tow! We got front row parking, and slowly sailed through checkpoint as our favorite guard seemed to be fighting sleep deprivation. The gates and doors glided open in less than 5 days, and the ladies were waiting for us with smiles!
The ladies were a bit nervous- today was the big test! But the dogs all held their heads high with pride and confidence.
In 1st place with a 94/100- MERCEDES!!! The errors were her own, but she sweet talked us all into forgiving her.
An underdog took 2nd today- DAISY MAY! Again, the errors were on the dog here, but her trainer made us all proud in how she handled it every step. 90/100 today- definitely most improved 👏 👏 👏 Daisy celebrated her victory by leaving a fresh steamer in her car seat. 💩
Unfortunately for Jeremy Clayton - his teachers pet- Lieutenant Coffee was knocked into 3rd place by a handler mistake that cost him a passing grade. I have no doubt he wouldn't stolen 1st place otherwise. But I'll be humble and take my win 🏆 🙌 😝
Poor Cotton didn't pass the first 2 exercises, which failed the entire test, entirely at the fault of his trainer. I personally walked him up the gray mile to his getaway van, and after about 15 feet, he proved he actually knew his stuff. He just needed someone to encourage him to participate in these strange human games, and let his nose go on break. He clocked in fast. And was showing his adopters he really knew his stuff, but much like myself as a child in school, he needed motivation to show his work and share his brilliant mind.
If I had it my way, every dog would've passed today, but for some handlers- their nerves take over and mistakes are a given. Of all people, i know how that goes. Working on the handlers confidence is a large part of what we do as trainers in this program, and with our clients. Training dogs comes easy to us, dogs aren't very complicated. But people are, so with them, we just have to take our time and keep building them up. We can't gift motivation, but we can encourage and build where motivation already exists.
This program is a gift to so many, the ladies who take it seriously, and the dogs who are begging to thrive. Without Covington Animal Rescue Effort this program may not exist. Special thanks to Ellen Weedman for providing a bus stop to so many, and letting us hose Daisy's car seat by you're beautiful gardens. 🙈🙊
