Adopting a new pup might be one of the absolute best things for your againg dog and yourself. Very few dogs are truly happy isolated. To isolate any social animal, you're creating a recipe for depression. It is not only great for puppy socialization but it could give you senior a new zest for life. I have seen it. The companionship while you are at work or away can provide stress reduction and increase physical activity. Both of which helps keep your older baby around longer. Unfortunately, we lose those senior babies at some point. Having introduced a new pup can help your grief and the loss of hearing those pitter pattering paws after they cross the rainbow bride.

While in most cases, getting a pup with an older dog can be wonderful for your senior, their are some cases where it would not be a good idea. Those being a senior who is aggressive towards other dogs, or you do not have the time to surpervise and train the pup, and if you can't financially support an additional pup. While noone knows your dog like you do, consider it and trust yourself to know.
