Coco, 6mo Teddy Bear Breed, was with us for 2 weeks of full e-collar training. She did puppy prong collar training at 4mo and is the new sister to one of our first training clients Milly the mini bernedoodle. Coco is a tenacious little lady but did a great job learning all the usual skills. Place command, off leash recall, heel, sit and down with implied stay and social skills with other dogs. She also had a lovely sit up truck she would do during breakfast and dinner which was pretty adorable. Her family doesn’t do social media so I didn’t document any of her training. However, she comes back for boarding with her sister often so you’ll see her around! We appreciate our repeat clients SO much. CONGRATS on Graduating Coco! We love you! ❤️🎓💯

Pennylane, 6mo mini Goldendoodle, was with us for 2 weeks of full e-collar training. She was a STRONG puller on leash, naughty chewer, keep away game player, not coming when called and overall the usual typical mischievous puppy behaviors. She was a model student while she was with us. Learning place command, off leash recall (come), heel, impulse control around distractions, sit and down with implied stay, handler awareness, a calm mindset, clear on/off switch and out command for dropping what’s in her mouth. Penny handled training with ease and was a blast to have stay with us. Since training she has even flown on a plane to Florida and demonstrated her perfect girl training skills during the trip! We can’t wait to see her back for boarding in the future, but it probably won’t happen often since she’s perfect enough to fly with her mom. CONGRATS on Graduating Penny! We love you!

Woody, 1yo Boxer, was with us for 2 weeks of full training. Mr. Woody was a typical Boxer, STRONG, tuned out, friendly, jumped up (boxer feet mode), and intense about being in his own world. They are active with hiking, camping and live on land so having him listen off leash was key. Woody was honestly quite easy to train. He was willing to participate aside from intermittent stubborn/dull headed moments and generally more than happy to take direction. He learned a rock solid place command, off leash recall, heel, sit and down with implied stay, focus and handler awareness in distracting environments, impulse control and a super solid off switch which was even more important since he was recovering from a knee injury. It was key we were able to slow his body down and turn his brain off so he was able to comfortably relax on place and heal up to avoid needing surgery. Woody’s knee has since almost fully healed up and he has done fantastic while hiking and camping on and off leash. It was fun to have a lovey first Boxer in for training! We can’t wait to see him back for graduated boarding. CONGRATS on Graduating Woody! ❤️🎓💯

Mosley, 8yo Labradoodle, was with us for 2 weeks of full e-collar training. Overall Mosley was a pretty good guy. He had the usual habits of jumping, counter surfing and not quite coming when called. He was also used to being loose in the house when they left and at night. Which can cause anxiety and it is hard to stop excited behavior when your dog has free roam. Overall Mosley was a pretty laid back guy. He learned a rock solid place command, heel, come, sit and down with implied stay, impulse control with squirrels, and no barking out windows. He did a great job adjusting even at an older age and was a pleasure to have in training. CONGRATS on Graduating Mosley!

Beezie, Bernedoodle,
was with us for 3 weeks of full e-collar training. She was a very scared girl from a bad experience at a bigger board and train facility earlier in the year. Beezie also had normal naughty behaviors such as jumping, not coming when called, issues with walking either pulling or refusing to move, and some general nervous behavior. While here I also noticed big insecurity around dogs in the form of growling and showing teeth to ‘protect’ her space. This is a result of going to out of control daycare facilities in the past, which, are notorious for eventually causing many social behavioral issues with dogs. While Beezie was with us my main concern was getting her to trust me and enjoy the training process. It took 10 days for her to come around and start showing her true colors. However, it is safe to say we are now best friends and she learned a ton! Place command, heel, come, sit and down with implied stay, and neutrality around dogs. Getting her to come out of her shell was a fun challenge and ultimately just took time. Every dog moves at their own pace and we have to respect that. She was a great girl to have stay with us and I’m so happy we could give her such a positive and personal training experience that her and her family can enjoy for years to come. We hope to see Beezie back for boarding in the future! CONGRATS on Graduating Beezie! We love you! ❤️🎓💯

09/09/2020

Minnie, 8mo Teddy Bear breed, was with us for 3 weeks of full e-collar training. Minnie....ohhhh Minnie...where to begin. She came to training with the intent that she was a typical normal wild crazy puppy. It was almost immediately apparent we had some other things going on with Minnie. One of the biggest hurdles, she had never worn any kind of collar around her neck before and was now expected to wear 3 collars on her neck during and after training. This proved to be a massive challenge for Minnie that would send her into very difficult and prolonged tantrums. So in addition to trying to teach her commands, behaviors and mindset I also had to figure out a way to get her to get over the mental block of wearing collars. On top of this Minnie is also apparently very tenacious and bossy, yet, extremely smart and intuitive. Training Minnie was like wrangling a wild mustang to say the least haha. I am not ashamed to admit I consulted with a few top trainers in the country about how to best train and be successful with Minnie. And how to do it in a timely manner since she was supposed to only stay for 2 weeks and needed what seemed like 6 weeks of training time. I do my best to be extremely up front with owners about their dog before, during and after the training process. In Minnie’s case there was only so much I could do. The amount of time she needed training wise wasn’t up to me. Neither her owners or I could have known she needed as much time as she did. I had to go at her pace and make as much as I could out of each day with her. One day at a time. One tiny bit of progress at a time. Two steps forward one step back day after day with her. She quite literally became a part of our family. She went on very long walk adventures with my personal dogs and I did as much as I could think to do with her to speed the process up. Finally 3 weeks later I saw a big enough change and juuuuust enough consistency in her reliability command and behavior wise to send her home. She shocked all of us during the go home lesson. She really got it together and put her best paw forward. We had a few significant bobbles but she remarkably showed her ability to...continued in comments!

09/09/2020

Yogi, 8mo Bernedoodle, was with us for 2 weeks of full e-collar training. Yogi had done some virtual lessons as a very young puppy during the beginning of COVID and we’d made a plan to do full training when the time was right for him. He didn’t come with many complaints other than typical wild puppy behavior and selective hearing, no response to ‘come’ especially for the husband and some anxious behaviors like constant following, some chewing on furniture/walls, pulling on leash etc. I also notice some slight crate anxiety and inability to just let the world go by while crated. He also had some slight low confidence/worry to his personality but in general Yogi is a typical great family puppy with normal puppy issues. Nothing too serious. He was a great learner once he figured out the routine and settled in a bit. He is a sensitive guy so we took it slowly so he could also gain self confidence before holding him more accountable. He learned all the basics with no trouble. Place, sit, down, come, heel, out, and ‘hop up’ for jumping into the car on his own and confidence building. Because of his slightly more worried personality I also focused on slowing his brain down and mindset as I do with all the dogs. But with some it’s more in depth than others. He functions in a much more relaxed state when his brain is moving at a regulated pace, instead of at a higher speed nervous anxious pace. He relaxed into this new mindset nicely over his 2 week with us. During his go home session we saw some resurfacing of the fast paced anxious brain but were able to work through it quite easily getting him calmed back down and into a logical and slower mindset. I am happy to report Yogi is doing fantastic and has settled into his new lifestyle nicely at home and at the lake where he struggled some before training. He is an extremely sweet natured and kind dog that was lots of fun to have and train. He has a great dedicated family that also lives close by so I look forward to having Yogi back for boarding in the future! CONGRATS on Graduating Yogi! We love you! 🎓❤️💯

Jojo, 10mo Boxer/German Shepherd mix, was with us for 2 weeks of full e-collar training. Jojo is our neighbor so I’ve known jojo since she was a little puppy. She started on a prong collar at 4mo and has been working on the basics of walk and place at home for a few months. Jojo is a very over aroused and over excited dog. She’s a great learner but she really struggles with sitting still and turning her brain off in a timely manner. Along with not reacting to every single slight sound and movement happening around her. She has a lot of prey drive, is a rough player, hackles constantly up, alert barking in and out of the house and all. So this makes for a very fun dog but also an overwhelming dog that can get spiraling out of control of left untrained. Her family is super dedicated to making sure we get and keep her state of mind on track for the next few months while she’s still maturing. She’s a dog that is great fun work work and train and play with but what she needs most is to practice doing nothing for many hours a day. Simply watching the world go by from a relaxed down position in her crate or on ‘place’. We also sharpened her heel position up big time, further back and paying more attention to her head and ear movements to be sure she’s truly staying relaxed and in follower mindset mode. The training commands was easy, getting Jojo’s Mindset in the right place took every bit of the full 2 weeks. This is the main focus of every training dog and for her it was by far her hardest task. She made huge progress during her stay and although the first few days back at home were hard, she has a very dedicated family and she is settling in nicely! It’s also great that I can run next door to help them whenever needed. I’m very impressed at the progress he made in only 2 short weeks. I look forward to having her big wild self back for boarding in the future. CONGRATS on Graduating Jojo! We love you! 💯❤️🎓

Dash, 8mo Bernedoodle, and full brother to Bear! Except they live in separate homes. Dash was totally opposite of Bear and I have also know him since he was a small puppy and helped his family out with teaching the basics while he was young. The anxiety I saw from Dash was more related to low confidence and thinking he couldn’t do what I was asking so he would put on the breaks. Both bear and Dash had an element of stubbornness to their behaviors also. It was clear both dogs were very lazy and used to simply existing day to day rather than following any given direction and following through with it. I had to build up their mental and physical stamina during their stay to get over this hump with them. Dash was more of an easy pleaser once we got his confidence up and in general much more willing to fall into a follower mindset. He also transferred behaviors over much easier when we did his go home lesson. He was ready to show his parents what he’d learned and more than happy to let them take over leadership and follow their directions. His family was most pleased with his walking skills which went from HORRIBLE to incredible. They are super excited to include him in many more walks and outings with the family. Place command will also be great for when they guests over to keep him from jumping up and barking. I’m sure Bear and Dash’s families are enjoying Sunday get togethers way more now that they have full control over their dogs. Dash is a super sweet boy and we can’t wait to see him back for boarding with his lovingly tenacious brother Bear! CONGRATS on Graduating Dash! We love you! ❤️🎓💯

09/09/2020

Bear, 8mo Bernedoodle, was with us for 2 weeks of full e-collar training. I knew Bear from a very young age and met with his family about how and what they could do as far as starting their new puppy out on the right track. They did a great job with all simple stuff! However with COVID-19 he was quite used to always being home with his family and I did see some crate anxiety with him along with very stubborn ideas about what he wanted to do and when. Bernedoodles are our biggest client base and this stubbornness is a bit unusual behavior wise for the breed in my opinion. However, we worked though this and by the end he was doing amazing. During his go home session I saw alllllll of his stubborn behavior resurface and his family learned a ton about working through these situations. They did a great job and I was very proud of how they emotionally handled working through his toughness after welcoming him home after 2 weeks having not seen him. This can be very mentally and emotionally challenging for owners to successfully accomplish so I was very impressed by them and their dedication to letting me help them fully work through it right off the bat. In true Bear fashion we eventually finished the go home lesson with flying colors and he’s been very successful at home since. He is now living his best off leash life, not peeing in his human cousins (and brother Dash’s house), going in to the crate when told, and staying on place when needed and walking like a champ in loose leash heel. We can’t wait to see Bear back for boarding in the future. He was a fun dog to decode during training and he taught me a lot. His progression was fun to watch and be apart of. CONGRATS on Graduating Bear! We love you! 💯❤️👍🏻

Burgee, 8mo Soft Coated Wheaton Terrier, was with us for 2 weeks of full e-collar training. Burgee was a typical terrier puppy. WILD and a slight mind of his own but otherwise normal and no major issues. Burgee learned all of our usual commands and he took to learning super well! Terriers can be tenacious and stubborn but Burgee loves to please his people. He’s a very smart boy. He knows when he’s made an impulsive mistake and would often fix it on his own. This is a skill I teach but he seemed to have an extra talent for it on his own from the start. He is a super fun guy and now with his new obedience, place, sit, down, come and heel he will be able to be included in even more of the family activities without overwhelming everyone. We are excited to see Burgee back for boarding in the future. I have a soft spot for Wheatons since we had one when I was growing up. CONGRATS on Graduating Burgee! We love you little guy! ❤️💯🎓

09/09/2020

Charlotte, 3yo Goldendoodle, was with us for 3 weeks of full e-collar training. Charlotte has been boarding with us for 2 years and knows the routine well at our house even though she had never done training. She’s been grandfathered in from the start and done well at our house. However, I had noticed from the start she could be low confidence, some odd anxious behaviors and snappy at dogs and humans if pressured. None the less it wasn’t ever a big issue for us. Recently she had about 4 serious instances all in one weekend that really made her family nervous so she came for full training. She learned all the usual basics and did super well with all commands and socializing with the other TRAINED dogs we have. I emphasize trained because the issues she had at her lake were with complete chaos happening around her, with humans and untrained dogs. For a dog like Charlotte this is a very unfair and unsafe position to put her in and expect her to make good choices. She now has the mental tools and training to make good choices and her family also has the training to help them help Charlotte in situations where she’s not comfortable. There is an element of her behavior that is simply poor genetics, however a lot of it is learned behavior/ stress that had built up over the past few years. So it will take a few months and maybe even a whole year to see her really start to thrive, especially in environments where she’s not as comfortable and had bad experiences. But that doesn’t mean she hasn’t made a ton of progress. This will always be a work in progress for her but it will be a lot easier with the training and tools Charlotte and her family now have. Great news is they live very close by if they need help and I am always happy to see Charlotte back for boarding throughout the year! CONGRATS on Graduating Charlotte. We love you! ❤️🎓💯

Fiona, 11mo English Cream Golden Retriever, and lovely sister to Buck was also with us for 2 weeks of full e-collar training. She had a few more behaviors we needed to work on. She’s very submissive, sometimes submissive pees, and is a more worried/ nervous girl about life in general. That’s ok though. We did lots of confidence building with her and the obedience we gave her will also help cut down on the amount of decisions she thinks she needs to make for herself that causes some of her anxiety and low confidence. She’s a dog that does better with more structure and direction when it comes to her day to day confidence and mental relaxation. She did fantastic during her stay. She has a bit more to work on at home as she’s a dog that needs more time to calmly adjust to new rules. Great news is she has an amazing family that is very dedicated to her needs and she has an amazing laid back brother to lean on with Buck. We can’t wait to see her back for boarding also! CONGRATS on Graduating Fiona! We love you. ❤️💯🎓

Buck, 2yo English Cream Golden Retriever, was with us for 2 weeks of full e-collar training. Buck has been boarding with us for quite some time now with his sister and training graduate Fiona. He is a very sweet, laid back dog with no issues. BUT that doesn’t mean he can’t benefit from training! He is now off leash reliable, has a solid place command and great lash skills so the whole family can walk him! Honestly, Buck is one of the greatest dogs we will ever have the pleasure of working with. He has a naturally very even temperament and steady brain that is lovely to be around no matter what. His amazing family now has extra security for him in any situation that may come up with the training. CONGRATS on Graduating Buck! We love you and can’t wait until your next boarding stay! 🎓💯❤️

Jack, 11mo Yellow Labrador Retriever, was with us for 2 weeks of full e-collar training. Jack was holding his family captive at home. They couldn’t even run to the grocery together. Someone always had to be home with Jack. If left alone he would self harm and break out of his crate and destroy things in the house. He had a lot of separation anxiety, selective hearing, sometimes potty inside the house, extremely strong on leash, would run away given the chance, jump on people, and over all super over aroused anxious behavior. Jack made great progress while he was with us. He is now safe in the cage and his family can leave the house. He also has great off leash recall and a super solid ‘place’ command...no more anxious non stop following his dad around. Jack also gained super good leash skills so we no longer have to worry about him pulling his parents to the ground. Jack has a ways to go before his anxiety is totally gone but he is much improved and his owners have all the tools they need to be successful in making sure Jack is the best dog he can be for the rest of his life. We look forward to seeing Jack for boarding in the future. CONGRATS on Graduating Jack! ❤️🎓💯

Ruby, 5yo Doberman, joined us for 2 weeks of full e-collar training. Ruby has had quite a bit of training but she also has 2 French Bulldog siblings and things were a bit nutty at home especially with company over. Ruby was a pretty great dog to begin with but liked to hoard toys, got a little funny about going for walks (although she loves them), liked to window shop for squirrels and cause a dog stampede through the house across the hardwood and out the dog door, jumping over all the hedges, kinda sorta coming when called and counter surfing (especially for butter!). We tackled all of these flaws by teaching Ruby ‘place’ command, off leash recall, sharpening her heel position, teaching her to bike, waiting for food, staying focused in public and overall a calmer state of mind. Ruby actually quite enjoys relaxing, especially when she’s super comfy which is great! She did very well was extremely fun to train and have stay with us. We are very excited for her two adorable Frenchie siblings to join us later this week. CONGRATS on Graduating Ruby! Can’t wait to get your siblings trained up and put it all together in a couple weeks! 💯❤️🎓 @ Indianapolis, Indiana

Milo, 5mo Sheepadoodle, was with us for 2 weeks of Prong collar and obedience work while his family traveled. Milo is a very large, sweet natured and laid back puppy. Before he arrived we had already decided to wait on e-collar training with him since he still has quite a bit of growing and maturing to do. While he was here he learned how to walk in heel, place command, sit and down, confidence building and social skills both active and passive (existing around other dogs on ‘place’ with no excitement or interaction). He was an amazing guy to have around. His crate skills are exceptional, he loves to please, catches on quickly and was a joy to work with. Congrats on Graduating the basics Milo! Can’t wait to see you back for more training and boarding this winter! 💯🎓❤️ @ All Dogs Balanced Training

Bruno, 6yo French Bulldog (housemate of Mr. T), was also with us for 2 weeks of full e-collar training in prep for his families first baby...due any day now! Bruno has a history of fighting with his housemate Mr. T and is a bit insecure compared to Mr. T’s high energy/ anxious personality. Upon arriving he immediately showed significant crate aggression towards his crate neighbor. This was corrected and he had 4 new neighbors during his 2 week stay. While he was here he also learned a rock solid ‘place’ command, sit and down with implied stay, recall/‘come’, existing calmly around other dogs even when the excitement level rises, looking to humans for direction and learning that ‘Bulldog-ing’ his weight around wasn’t going to fly anymore. He also gained a lot of confidence going on field trips. While he was here Bruno specialized in ‘looking sad’, but his parents say he’s been pulling that trick his whole life. Despite looking ‘sad’ Bruno was a ready participant in learning and almost instantly fell in love with sleeping on place, mostly with his head hanging off the side and snoring very loudly. Bruno and Mr. T are both thriving back at home and gaining more and more trust in each other with the consistent leadership of their parents. We look forward to seeing more of Bruno and Mr. T in the future. CONGRATS on Graduating Bruno! We love you! 💯❤️🎓 @ All Dogs Balanced Training

Tito, 5mo mini Goldendoodle, was with us for 8 days while his family was out of town. He learned all of the intro training basics. Confidence building, loose leash walking skills, place, place duration, waiting for food, crate manners, not jumping or nipping, eye contact and looking to humans for direction. The nipping and jumping can be difficult behaviors for puppies to resist. You need to be very clear with structure and boundaries. Agree with behavior you do want and disagree (fairly and properly punish) for behaviors you don’t want. AND only give a proper amount of affection at the correct times, for example: when they are calm and relaxed, not crazy. Tito was an absolute joy to have stay with us and we can’t wait to have him back for full training soon when he is just a bit older! Great job Tito! ❤️💯 @ All Dogs Balanced Training

23/09/2019

Georgia, 18 month old Setter and bird hunter extraordinaire, finished her 1 week board and train today. At a young age she already had quite the long list of odd behavior and previous training. She came fully trained but not e-collar trained and lacking state of mind training. She was know to sit and stare at the bird feeder for hours without moving. As well as some pretty pushy/bratty and extremely nervous behavior. At one point, for no apparent reason, she ran and hid from one of their teenage kids when they walked in the door. She also had a pretty serious fear/ uncertainty about other dogs due to some unfortunate encounters. This was also a dog that was medicated to help with her anxiety/odd behavior. I could go on with more, but you get the point. My goal with Georgia was to first get her to trust me and then her owners, especially when it came to her fear of other dogs and new situations. Georgia made VERY good friends with 11 dogs while she was with us and even began initiating play and enjoying it! Second, as a trained bird dog I wanted to see what level of working dog I was working with. I found Georgia to be a high level working dog. Being a family pet is very hard for her. So by introducing the e collar we are now able to keep her focus and hold her accountable for commands. Bird hunting is for the fields. At home her job is to walk very responsively on leash, hold place, sit, and down stays wherever her family wants and of course have fun with them, she loves the hose and water! And most importantly not practice OCD or neurotic behaviors with birds. There is a very big difference between instinct and being so impulsive that the behavior becomes neurotic. We were able to give Georgia TONS of confidence this past week, with dogs AND with trusting her owners to give her enough guidance and structure that she no longer needs to constantly worry about things on her own. This is a dog that loves to work. They are now able to work her with birds and at home so she stays relaxed and engaged mentally bringing her anxiety down tenfold. She has awesome owners and I can’t wait to see how she continues to progress. Especially after her first real hunting trip! @ All Dogs Balanced Training

Toby was back for boarding and a brush up last week! He also learned to bike since it was freezing cold last time he was here for training. His mom has been very diligent with keeping up on his training. He is still a young boy and already off leash reliable. He did struggle with place duration so that was our biggest focus for his stay this past week. He was awesome, as usual. We love when he comes to stay. His s***k and whit always keep us laughing! 💯❤️🎓

Jax the 1.5yo Wheaton Terrier completed a 9 day refresher board and train with us! He had been trained on the e collar when he was younger by another trainer who did a great job. But, when his dad needed knee surgery it was a bit of a setback and this wild boy took over their household quickly! He was getting 3 or 4 walks a day to be sure he was calm and controllable at night and their life revolved around exercising him. And Jax even has a bit of a sore hip and back because of his exuberant ‘Wheaton greatin’ and non stop go go go attitude. Great news is he has a fantastic personality and we found this boys lazy side with extended place duration. We also re introducing the e collar. Even teaching him ‘double down’ to help with extra relaxation in high commotion settings like at the lake house. He even got to meet his horse brother Pal! He now walks calmly in heel, is off leash reliable, and has a 100% calmer state of mind. He knows what’s expected of him and is held accountable if he makes mistakes. His parents are going to be sure they stick with it this time around so they can enjoy Jax’s company and not worry about him no matter where they take him. GREAT JOB JAX! He was a blast to work with and we are excited for the next time he comes to stay with us as a graduate! 🎓 @ All Dogs Balanced Training
