Panda just turned 2 so we did her health testing required by ESAA/OFA. She is BAER Normal (hearing), Hips Good, Elbows Normal, Thyroid Normal and PRCD4 clear which earns her the designation of CHIC!

I have had a few questions regarding our “non setters” here at Checkpoint 😂 we actually have four that live here that aren’t English Setters! We have a Miniature Poodle Roxy that is our constant companion, Jewels the Pointer who is an honorary ES and Panda’s “littermate” and the Border Collies Sushi and Bunny.

My daughter had been training/competing with Johnny in 4H and agility and we decided he was getting older and she needed a dog of her own to start training. She did the research and decided she wanted a Border Collie. Not a far stretch as there has been a BC in this family since I was a toddler up until the past few years when the ES became our sole breed. So we sought a breeder and a couple months later along came Sushi! Bunny is a different story. After seeing how wonderful Sushi was and loving having a BC in the house again, I decided I had to have another back in the mix (instead of just playing grandma to Sushi) so I contacted the same breeders and Bunny 🐰 came to Checkpoint! While technically Bunny is Sky’s, she spends time with me and our friend/Sky’s training instructor Kathryn Kopreski at The Dog Barn learning all the ends and outs of being a performance dog! She never stops amazing me in her cute little self! You see… Bunny stopped growing at 16”! So we say dynamite 🧨 comes in small furry packages!

Being the baby doesn’t mean you don’t have to work! We are blessed to have multiple conformation classes (so no excuses on my part in the ring) locally to work our puppies and get them ring ready!

Our whirlwind trip to Houston in July for the Lone Star English Setter Club led to Panda winning her second Best In Sweepstakes AND her becoming Group Placing BOSS CH Checkpoint Practically Perfect by going Best of Opposite at 14 months!!

Along with our well bred, health tested English Setters, we always have a Border Collie. Truly my heart breed, although my daughter has taken on the Borders. And yes, our Borders are also health tested ❤️
