Redirectional walking this morning with Winston 😊

Imagine If you couldn't tell your dog to leave something alone. Or say you weren't allowed to offer a punishment for their pulling on leash, this type of redirectional walking would be one of the tools you would want in your arsenal.

Instead of correct, think, redirect!

We are 4 sessions in with Woody (Husky) and he is making a complete turn around!

Advancement with Paris 😊

Doodles sometime have a reputation of being very energetic and all over the place.

Paris does have those tendencies but walking into our 4th session and she clearly understood what my visit meant.

She immediately sat, then laid down on her placement mat 😂 🐩

With any intelligent person or animal, they need a lot of guidance to steer all of that intellect in the right direction.

Paris has 6 more sessions to go and I'm eager to see her finished results 💯

Advancement with Winston today. 🐾
This is his 3rd session and his best one yet.

Todays topics were mainly introducing the leave it command and walking etiquette.

He has 3 more sessions left in his Engage w Reactive course and is on a great track. 💯

Doorway etiquette and placement work with Bogey today 😊

Bogey is signed up for our Engage course with is 6 sessions over 6 weeks. Today was his 2nd session and he is progressing very well.

Today we went over introducing doorway etiquette to prevent incidents and encourage routine around doorways. Especially the front door.

Teaching Bogey to go to his bed and stay there is also a high priority.

So we continued our Place command from our previous session and added a little duration (5 seconds) to work on for the week.

Bogey is a quick learning and he should complete the course with no issues 😊

Advancement with Blue!
Blue is enrolled in our True Basics program with a focus on Reactivity. Typically in the later sessions of our True basics program we head to public settings like a park or Lowe's.

For Blue we decided to go to Lowe's.
In the home blue had a fairly severe reactive streak and his family was questioning what options they had.

His pet parents also welcomed a baby into their family and he was also expressing some concerning behaviors.

Fast forward to 8 weeks later and we have a Blue that is minding his space and his energy at home with the baby.

Who still barks when guest come home but you're able to redirect quicker.

He barked once or twice during situations he felt concerning during our trip to Lowe's but ultimately he did amazingly well.

As you can see in the photos we took at the end of our session, we ended on a great note.

All part of the process of exposure, building skills, confidence building, and enhancing our engagement with Blue.

Yesterday was Woodys 2nd Reactivity session, and he seems to be progressing well.

Woody is a fear reactive dog, and a lot of the behaviors are particular towards Men.

Woody is a rescue who now finds himself living in a home with 3 male adults. Not knowing Woodys past, we spent 2 sessions gathering information on his tendencies and what triggers him.

We also pointed out a few adjustments that could be made in his home (environment shapes behavior) and in the approach his owners were taking.

In this situation, we recommended it is best for the men in the home to remain as neutral as possible in his presence. No eye contact, no attempts at petting him.

During this second session, we went in a long walk and went over some basic walking routine etiquette. We got to the point where the Dad of the house was able to dual hold the leash with the Mom of the house. Giving Woody a small idea of what the leash looks like coming from someone else.

The first step is helping him feel comfortable in our presence. Which means we have to handle our frustrations and even our excitement very well.

We have 4 more sessions to go with Woody and we are looking forward to see the end result.

Shelby is doing awesome as he progresses through his True Basics curriculum.

He is on his 2nd session and already showing signs of being an advanced student.

He does come with excitement and gets distracted like any pup, but once he is focused he is ready to go!

Shelby's owner would like him to have a good foundation for learning service dog skills. 🐕‍🦺

Having a good is a necessary piece of the puzzle 🧩

Socks 🧦
Socks in on our Engage program with a focus on reactivity to strangers. Most dogs like Socks like to get to know you on their own time.

It's helpful to be mindful of what "social pressures" our dogs may be experiencing when they are out and about with us. Or even in our own homes.

Having the ability to advocate for your pet and empathize with what they are going through goes a long was in rehabilitation.

Ending in a great note tonight with Winston!

Winston is enrolled in our Engage curriculum with a focus on reactivity. Tonight was his second session and he is progressing beautifully.

Dogs with reactivity benefit the most from expanding their vocabulary and building their confidence.

Pet owners with reactive pets also benefit from building their vocabulary with their dog so they know how to communicate with them when they find themselves in sticky situations.

This boy is smart! 🐩
Shelby is on the road to becoming a very intelligent pup! He has a calm demeanor and is very eager to learn. That's an awesome foundation for building his skills.

Shelby is on the True Basics Curriculum which is 10 - 1 hour sessions over 10 weeks. The True Basic course is a great way to give yourself and your pet a good foundation.

The more "commands" your pet knows, the more you can communicate with them. We refer to commands as building vocabulary.

It's time to build!

Introducing Spot & Daisy! 🎉

Two rescue pups that are very eager to learn 🤩
They are on our Crash Course curriculum which is 4 sessions over 4 weeks.

Spot and Daisy were adopted by an elderly couple who needed guidance on how to manage their energy. So we will be customizing our curriculum to suit their particular needs.

As we say, Families that train together, Gain together 😊

Blaze has completed his Fast Pass curriculum 🎉

The two young boys in the home did very well learning the material and working with their new puppy. 💯

Our Fast Pass curriculum is a hint of what's possible when we start introducing a larger vocabulary to our pets. It is a 2 session course over 2 weeks.

In nearly all my sessions in households where there are children, I hear this comment "Oh, so just like a child?"

If you are having issues with your pet and you have children, the best advice I can give you is resort back to when your child was a a toddler.

They cannot speak and have difficulty expressing themselves. They don't have a vocabulary and are becoming familiar with their surroundings.

Every tool that is made to assist with babies, they make for dogs.

A crib = A crate

A playpen = a corral

A baby gate = a Dog gate

Babies teeth, puppies teeth.

Babies eat then p**p, puppies eat then p**p.

Babies require alot of attention, ... I think you get the idea 💡

Resource guarding workshop sessions with Niko this evening.

Niko is on a customized obedience workshop curriculum with a focus on resource guarding.

Our workshops are typically done in single sessions however Nikos family felt they needed two, and we are happy to help.

Niko is living with two children and needs more information and guidance to help manage his unwanted behaviors and encourage positive ones.

Tonight's workshop went very well and the kids had a lot of fun learning how to communicate with their new dog. 🐾

Rainy evening session with Blaze and his family! ☔️

Blaze is signed up for our Fast Pass course which is 2 sessions over 2 weeks.

This evening we went over potty training curriculum, placement exercises, crate training , and teething along with some basic commands.

Blazes family has two children who are super eager to learn and be involved with him which always leads to great results.

Everyone did awesome 👏

Peri Graduated today!!

Peri completed our True Basics training, enrolled in advanced training, and is back for some maintenance 🐾

Introducing the vocabulary is the first step, then we always want to advance it, and invite maintenance as needed.

The learning never stops, especially with smart girls like Peri!

She's always earned herself a 💯

Paris began her 10 week In Home True Basics program this morning!

Paris is a little overly social with guest and can't help her jumping. She is also being a bit distructive in the house so we will need to load up her vocabulary and introduce more structure into her lifestyle. 🐩

We have our work cut out for us but luckily Paris is a very intelligent pup! She caught on quickly 🙏

Ticks, fleas and worms are among the many things we taught the second graders during our time in Uvalde.

Most of the children told us their animals had ticks and fleas. 😭

All of these bugs were on one of our new intakes from last night. The bugs are dead now…. The products available today are amazing. Within 24 hours, all fleas and ticks are dead.

This pup is now parasite free for probably the first time in her life.

We need to teach these children at a young age that it is NOT normal or OK to have parasites on your animals. They can transmit diseases to their pets and to them!

They graduated last night 🎊

Each were signed up for the TRUE Basics course which means their owners went to 20 sessions to complete their curriculum! (True Basics is 10 sessions)

Definitely not an easy task but they did it!!
