Bad Behavior/Good Dog is a Boise ID Business to help frustrated dog owners learn to effectively communicate with their pets.
Contact Julie Anderson208-340-2824 if you need help I have been working professionally with dogs since 2009, and in that time have worked with hundreds of dogs. I have worked with reactivity, crippling fear and everything in between. I use a behavioral approach that is both fast and effective in changing a dog's behavior. My methods are fun for both human and dog. You can expect to see a noticeabl
e difference after one session. I am a Professional Member of the IACP (International Association of Canine Professionals). It is an organization established to maintain the highest professional and business standards among canine professionals.

Birdie my one-eyed wonder is 13, while our foster dog Mazie is just 5 months old. Old and young dogs can be friends but be sure to give your old dog plenty of breaks. Use crates, playpens or baby gates to allow down time for the older one.

Pro Tip: When crate training avoid using a treat to lure your dog into the crate. This may make them associate bad things with a treat. This is called poisoning the treat. The presence of a treat đ° getting put in the crate. Therefore the treat can actually trigger a fear response because it predicts something they donât like.
Instead teach your dog to âload upâ. Toss a handful of treats in the crate and when the dog goes in for them say the cue âload upâ. Do this many many times until the dog shows no hesitation going into the crate. Then toss one treat in and say the cue. Again, do this many times and possibly over several sessions. When the dog is completely comfortable and happy to âload upâ for a single treat, make the motion of tossing a treat into the crate and give the cue. As soon as the dog goes in, praise heavily and give several treats. Congratulations, youâve now taught your pooch to gladly hop in the crate and you are rewarding a behavior instead of trying to lure or bribe your dog into the crate.
*If at any time the dog shows hesitation, go back a step until they are comfortable. Donât be tempted to rush it.

October is Pit Bull Awareness month. Our foster dog Kevin is here to remind everyone how great bully breeds can be. Kevin has been in the shelter system for most of his 4 years. He has hair loss from the stress of it.
Kevin is a gentle giant with the sweetest personality. Donât over look the bullies when searching for your best friend.

Meatball had just a touch of resource guarding. He would get stiff and growl when anyone came too close to his food bowl. As you can see he no longer displays those behaviors. Some people will get in a power struggle with their dog over guarding but thatâs the worst thing you can do. Dogs guard from a place of anxiety. They are fearful thereâs not enough or that they will lose what they have. Trying to dominate or discipline these dogs only affirms what the dog suspected, that humanâs near their stuff is bad for them.
Meatball has learned humans + food = yummy treats.
Over a period of time Iâve built up his confidence and trust in me by not trying to take his food, but instead tossing a treat to him. At first I tossed from far away, now I can walk right up and drop it in his bowl.
I got what I wanted, a dog who didnât growl at me, Meatball got what he wanted, all the food plus extra!
It was a win/win for both of us. When you encounter an issue with your dogâs behavior come up with a plan where you both win. Lifeâs just better that way.

Little Tuckett is a smart boy who loves to learn! Did you know dogs learn best through games? Make training fun for your dog and see how far they go!

On these hot summer days dogs can easily over heat outside. Bring them in where itâs cool. This is Birdie. Sheâs found a cozy spot under the ac vent. Now itâs your turn to show us how your dogs are keeping cool this summer.

A friendly reminder that itâs too hot to be walking your dog.

Listen to your dog when they whisper so they donât have to shout.

Olive had a habit of picking things up off the ground and not wanting to give them back so we taught her a game I call, What Do You Have?

Many years ago our pit bull adopted a baby crow that fell out of his nest. She watched over him for weeks until he was big enough to fly. Iâm always amazed and awed by the compassion of animals.

Do you know the right way to greet a dog? Is it A, B, or C?
19/05/2022
Please donât be THAT person. If a dog doesnât want affection donât force it.

This isnât dog related but I still wanted to share. Last week I found a baby goose who couldnât walk so I brought him home. I thought he was probably dying and didnât want him to die alone in the hot sun. After getting some food and liquids in him he began to improve. So over the next several days we kept him and watched over him. Each day he got stronger. After 5 days heâd made a full recovery and we were able to reunite him with his family. Hereâs a short video of his journey with us and his reunion with his family. Good lucky little buddy! Thanks for being our guest!
Enrichment Friday! Food puzzles are a great brain game for your dog. Tell us your favorite puzzle game, or better yet, post a picture or video of your dog enjoying one.
Enrichment Friday! This is a fun DIY enrichment toy that a friend made for me. I like to feed meals this way sometimes. Tell us your favorite enrichment activity.
Do you have trouble with your dog getting into your business while loading the dishwasher? I did too, until I implemented the mat trick. Now my dogs know if they sit and wait patiently on the mat while I load the dishes, they get a little treat when Iâm all done. No more dogs trying to lick the dishes as I load. Try it with your pup!
Enrichment Friday! Dogs should be getting at least one enrichment activity a day on top of their physical exercise. Hereâs one of my dogâs favorite games. A treat dispensing toy.
Enrichment Friday! This is one of my favorites because itâs so easy and mentally stimulating for dogs. Remember, any time the nose is working, the brain is working. *note* If you have multiple dogs, and resource guarding is an issue, play with one dog at a time.
Sometimes thereâs just something missing in your life and you donât know it until you find it. As was the case with Miss Heidi. This is a video of her seeing a frisbee for the very first time. If you need a smile today, watch this!
