This cold weather has us reminiscing about the warmth of spring where Farmer Kim hosted hundreds of MSD students on the farm for field trips. After enjoying her monthly visits throughout the year, Alfred Vail 2nd graders were sad to leave the farm on their final visit, giving Farmer Kim a great squeeze before getting on the bus back to school.

“Just Try One Bite” is Farmer Kim’s favorite book to read during class visits! It’s the story of a family trying new foods together, with a funny twist that keeps kids happily engaged. It’s a great conversation starter when we try veggies in class!

Last week, Farmer Kim visited Normandy Park School for a lesson about eating the rainbow with 2nd and 3rd grade students. In the activity, students went through 5 color stations where they learned what each food color does for their body. Swipe to check out their completed colorful worksheets!

Time to get your garlic in the ground, folks! Today we broke up 520 bulbs of garlic to plant each clove one by one. And that doesn’t include the cloves that Farmer Kim planted with all of her preschool classes the past week.

There’s always a special feeling on garlic planting day, starting a crop that will weather the winter months through spring and into July before it’s harvested.

We highly recommend garlic for lazy gardeners! It’s as close to it gets to a “set it and forget it” crop. 😉

Hello, friends! This is the last week to buy veggies at the Farm Stand until next June so stop by Thursday 3-6 or Saturday 9:30-2 to shop!

After this week, you can buy fresh produce from us at the which runs every Sunday from December to April. Grow It Green vegetables will be available every second Sunday of the month!

Check out the jack o’lantern our chickens helped carve last week! Did you know over 1 billion pounds of pumpkins are sent to landfills each year? If you’re looking for a more sustainable way to dispose of your pumpkins this year, bring them over to the Urban Farm and we can add them to our compost pile. Happy Halloween!

Preschool students visited the farm for a lesson all about pumpkins! After enjoying a story with Farmer Kim about these fall favorites and exploring their various textures, the students ventured to GIGM’s pumpkin patch to pick their very own pumpkin to take home!

We extend our heartfelt thank you to Samsung Electronics America for their wonderful volunteering efforts in honor of their company-wide Day of Service! We were thrilled to welcome 25 employees who dedicated their time and effort to help us with various tasks, including harvesting and processing vegetables for the farm stand and cleaning up the tomato beds.
