Hello everyone ♥️ it has been a while. Doing well & happy 🎈As I walk these 2 cute pups in a beautiful green pasture in Green Valley… it is so tranquil with 4 more sits to go this evening & I can only reflect. I know I am really busy…it’s a good problem to have…I am SO SO thankful to my clients who have put their trust in me with their precious fur babies (all kinds) that they refer me to their friends & family. Thankful to 2 specific sitters in the area Wendy & Doris who have been so kind & gracious to keep me in the loop & also refer me. Feeling blessed & thankful today. I love what I do every single day & wouldn’t change it 🤗

What temperature is too hot for a dog?
I was reading about heat stroke in dogs, and was wondering what the maximum comfortable temperature is for a dog in a house without an air-conditioner. I have fans going and there is plenty of water available. I don't think the temperature has gone above 90F.

This is a great question. The answer can also apply to those who have dogs that prefer to stay outdoors.

In general, with plenty of water, air circulation and shade, most dogs will probably do okay in warm temperatures up to about 90˚F. However, there is no hard and fast rule about a temperature limit. Dogs do not sweat; they cool themselves primarily through panting. If it gets hot and humid enough, no amount of panting will do the trick. Plus, self-cooling ability depends on the dog. Brachycephalic dog breeds (short-snouted like Bulldogs or Pugs) cannot cool themselves as easily through panting. Dog breeds that originated in cold climates (like Huskies, Malamutes, and Newfoundlands) typically have a harder time adjusting to the heat.

It’s been quite an adventure & a learning experience (on the administrative side) since I purchased Happy at Home thanks to Lea Kachler-Leake ❤️ and she’s still pet sitting in case you wondered. We continue to provide excellent & loving care to all of our fur babies. I hope to meet more of you & your fur babies in the near future 🤗

Hello clients and Friends of Happy at Home Pet Sitting. Lea here. As you have no doubt heard, there is dire need for supplies in Butte County. Countless people have lost everything. We would like to help. My husband and I made a large donation of household items today and we have learned that there are certain things for which the need is greatest. A list is below.

If you would like to help by contributing new items, not used, as itemized below, please let me know and I will be happy to pick them up at your home. If we all donate even a few things, we can make a big difference to the people who need it so desperately.

Especially needed are:
new blankets, pillows, towels, washcloths, undergarments, hygiene items, clothing, backpacks, luggage, gloves, men’s clothing, pet food, pet carriers, all sizes of dog sweaters, reading glasses, toilet paper, paper towels, laundry baskets, gift cards, ready-to-eat food items, such as granola bars, pop-top single serve soups, chili, etc.

They are NOT looking for used items.

Walmart is offering a 10% discount for purchases for the fire victims and I’ve been told that Target is, as well.

Today we said goodbye to our sweet friend Kahlua. One of my rescues 7 years ago, she came to us from an abusive situation. My hubby and I fostered her until our friends Ron and Wendy adopted her and gave her the loving, safe, secure home she deserved. She flourished under their care. But kidney disease stole her away. Today we helped her cross the rainbow bridge with love. Fly free sweet angel Kahlua. You were loved 💔

Hello friends of Happy at Home Pet Sitting. I wanted to let you know about an upcoming change. First let me say that the great service we have always provided to you and your pets will continue! We value our clients and love the pets we care for. That will not change!

But, after pet sitting for 14 years, it's time for me to cut back a little and focus on some other areas. It's time for me to have a day off now and then!😉

Effective October 1, I am selling the business to Liza Long, Many of you know Liza. She has worked with me as a pet sitter for about 3 years. She is an experienced sitter and is a vet tech. She already provides excellent care to many of your pets. She is honest, reliable, compassionate, and organized, and I have every confidence that she will continue to provide the high quality service that you're accustomed to with Happy at Home Pet Sitting. If you are on my schedule, nothing changes; I will be doing your visits as scheduled.

I will continue to work with Liza as a pet sitter, but Liza will be running the business. All booking will be done through Liza. The phone number and email will stay the same.

It has been such an honor to have you trust me with your precious pets. It's a trust I don't take lightly and one for which I am so grateful.

I'll still be here as a pet sitter after October 1! The great service will still be here! Liza will do a fantastic job as the new owner. Please shoot me a message or a phone call with any questions or concerns.

It has been a month of loss for us at Happy at Home.

My husband and I lost our own precious boy Newman to an aggressive canine cancer. His sudden passing has been devastating.

We said goodbye to some beloved clients and I honor their memories here. Fly free sweet angels. We are so grateful to have had you in our lives. 💙❤️💔

More pets run away on July 4 than any other day of the year. Neighborhood fireworks are illegal in Vacaville and absolutely terrifying for animals. Please bring your pets inside, or at least in the garage if they are outside dogs. If your dogs are inside, here are some suggestions for making them feel safer on July 4.
