Our WHISKER WEDNESDAY for the month of January is TOMORROW 1/31/24!
This is a program offered at No Cost to the community, sponsored by Weatherford Parker County Animal Shelter and Parker Paws. Our goal is to spay, neuter, vaccinate, and ear notch 100 community cats on this day.
This program helps significantly reduce the number of stray cats born each year, keeping the population from getting out of control.
Drop off is at 8:30am on a first come first serve basis, so get in line early at our gate. Pickup will be between 4pm-5pm.
There are some rules for this wonderful program so please read carefully:
• Participants must live inside our service areas of Parker County
• Drop off is from 8:30am-9am and pick up is between 4pm-5pm
• Each cat must be in there own appropriate sized live trap (no dog or squirrel traps, and no carriers will be accepted on our Whisker Wednesdays)
• There is no limit to how many cats you can bring unlike our normal TNR days, as long as each cat is in their own trap.
NOTE: You will be turned away and denied service if you have more than one cat per trap, or do not have the appropriate trap.
Cats will receive FVRCP, ear notch and rabies vaccine. Rabies will be on all kittens 12 weeks and older. Surgery can be done on kittens at 1.5 lbs, but they will not be old enough for rabies at that time. No extras are offered, and no exceptions on ear notching.
Live traps can be purchased at most hardware stores and pet supply stores.
Please call the shelter for any additional questions about our Whisker Wednesday or if you have questions about our normal TNR days.

I’m sharing this on all of my platforms because I think it’s important information
The Brick Gym and SHAWS Paws has taken a back burner and will continue to do so however in both business I have amazing employees that are doing a wonderful job.
The Brick Gym: I cant thank Jeff Smith, Nathen, and Talon enough for holdingg down the fort.
SHAWS Paws we have done a lot of restructuring, and I have now 19 Amazing women that will come into your home and care for your animals as you need.
It’s been a whirlwind of a few weeks.
I thought last year was a doozy Ha!
January came out of the gate with a vengeance. Go home sister, you’re drunk. 🤦🏼♀️
What I have been reminded is that when you think you can’t take anything else, you find out that in fact you can.
What I’ve learned:
Cancer is expensive. I don’t care who you are, what your bank account is, It’s expensive.
Financially, mentally, physically and emotionally expensive.
I’ve also learned that Hospice is a dang Calvary.
I pray you don’t need the following folks but if ever you do here are some angels that have helped us navigate the last 3 weeks and 4 days.
Fort Worth Hospice and Palliative Care are true angels on earth.
This week alone we have had 8, yes, you read that right 8 different visits by 6 different people making sure the eldest roomie is well taken care of. They don’t stop there, they call, text, and check in inbetween.
Also:
Dr. Lindsay Brooks (Texas Health Care) my moms new P*P (He is taking over for Dr. Parker) I have no words (ha! But I do) to describe how incredibly compassionate, kind, real, patient, thorough, he and his office are. He walked us through every scenario. Noticed I wrote “walked” and not “lead” He was careful to allow us to make the decision. He gave us the facts, his experience and expertise. From the amazing nurses in the office to his patient heart we are eternally grateful for everything. (Annie K. I love you. Thank you for the referral and being the go between in the beginning to make this happen)

THIS, HE is the piece that absolutely devastates me in all this. The love that little boy has for his Nana, the relationship they have, watching him process this, and doing it with such maturity, understanding (he loves the idea that Nana gets to hug Sasha for him once she “moves” into heaven” He has moments of sadness then he will “snap” himself to the now and go find her and “hang out” It’s absolutely incredible to witness. He’s far better at this than I.
We understand and know what’s happening, we just don’t know when. Right now we are having more good days than not and we will take that.
What we also know and are reminded of is that life changes daily.
Little and small, it moves forward.
Life moves forward with and without people we love.
Part of living, loving and being grateful for the life we get to live is knowing and understanding it is fleeting and short.

🐶 Rescue/Foster/Adopt:
We have relationships with several area rescue organizations and veterinarians in our community.
SHAW’S Paws has fostered in all of our homes 47 dogs, helped placed 29, taken in 19 vetted and placed on our own. We also donate a percentage of our revenues each much to area shelters and rescues

Sounds like a tummy bug is going around. While I’m not a vet, I would after consulting your vet, stick to a bland diet, make sure they are hydrating.
Like humans, dogs can get a virus from time to time, pick things up from one another.
Just like your human children do from each other you’re fur family have these capabilities as well.
Our home when something like this happens we separate from the pack, observe, alert the owners, make sure they are drinking, feed them a bland diet of rice and chicken with pumpkin.
