Vegetable plant sale, now through Friday! We have tomatoes, peppers of all heat levels, broccoli, and cauliflower. Meet us at New Life Community Garden in Bellevue. We are there Sunday noon-2, Monday, Wednesday and Friday 5-7, and Tuesday and Thursday 1-3. $1-3 depending on size.

Sweet potato day! Linda dug, and Amber cleaned and boxed. And it's a beautiful crop! Just look at the sizes of these things! After a couple weeks of curing, these will be ready for the Bellevue Food Pantry.

Linda is one of our gardeners here at Providence. Since we started harvesting a month ago, we've delivered approximately 75 pounds of produce to the Bellevue NE Food Pantry.

Our friend Linda was kind enough to stop at the pantry after working in her garden this week and drop off some fruits and veggies!

The Pantry has been receiving generous fresh vegetable donations lately, and it is great to be able to offer them to families in our community!

I just made my second delivery to the Bellevue Food Pantry. It was about 5 pounds of peppers,, peas,, kale,, and swiss chard. They're so happy to have it! She told me that they lost their fresh food funding last week, so now the only fresh food they get is from us and the Papillion Urban Garden. Being able to help people like this is an amazing feeling 💕

I'm recording today's weather because it's so unusual--

It's 50 degrees at noon on May 28th. There's a chance for frost on the other side of the river tonight. And I'm planting tomatoes (in the cold) 2 weeks late, and I have to start from scratch on my cantaloupe because temps below 50 ruin them.

But hey... the garden looks like a garden now, thanks to some help from my friends and family!

Providence Garden is doing a garage sale! Thursday and Friday, April 29 & 30 at 907 Lemay Ave, Bellevue. Proceeds will make it possible for us to become a food charity and offer tax deductibility in exchange for donations.

Playing hard in the dirt today. We hired Dan Anderson to till for us, then the Bellevue West JROTC came back to help us spread a literal ton of compost. Getting closer to planting 🙂

Started solarizing the new expansion of the garden today. An aerial view would give a better perspective, but it's the same size as the original patch, and slightly offset because of the topography. In there, we will put sweet corn, sweet potatoes, melons, and potatoes, which will give more space for a few other new things, like cucumbers, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts.

It was a fun day in the garden today! The Bellevue West JROTC came out and helped get ready for spring. They're a good bunch of kids and they earned service points for their work.

Providence Garden, Inc. will be a nonprofit microfarm in Bellevue, NE dedicated to easing local food insecurity by providing people in need with fresh produce paid for by donations and grants.

Our produce will still be available to the public in exchange for donations.

Crenshaw melon. It's a cross between a cantaloupe and a casaba melon, very difficult to find around here. The average weight is about 7-8 pounds. The flavor is very similar to cantaloupe but a bit milder and sweeter. And has a very juicy, melt-in-your-mouth buttery texture.

My whole house smells like cantaloupe! It's amazing!

This year's cantaloupe harvest is pretty good. The fruit is sweet and juicy, full of flavor-- so much better than the flavorless ones that get trucked in from who-knows-where. These were presold and are awaiting pick-up by their owners. However, i do have Crenshaw melons that are almost ready and available for preorder.

Isn't that the most gorgeous piece of fruit? It's a Striped German tomato, a very old heirloom variety. Each one weighs well over a pound and the flavor is non-acidic. It's so sweet that it reminds me of a melon.
