Well, Smoke has had an eventful couple days. First of all let me point out, he is getting big! Almost 15hh and over 600lbs. But to the drama. Yesterday he decided to try and jump the end gate when I was working him. This led to him creating a minor injury to his chest. I had to go out today to clean and treat it again. Luckily for him, the Absorbine silver honey spray is doing its thing and looks tremendously better already. Also, it's a good thing I had a session scheduled for him anyway with Flexpemf . He did fantastic for being so young and he loved it. His new favorite person may be Rene. He feels like a brand new horse. Thank you so much Rene and FlexPEMF. You are fantastic, so knowledgeable and good with the horses. I 💯 % recommend you to anyone. Rene does people and dogs too. Next time I schedule Smoke, I'm scheduling myself too.

UPDATES GUIDELINES AVAILABLE 📢

The AAEP has issued revised Internal Parasite Control Guidelines to help minimize the risk of parasitic disease and maintain the effectiveness of current drugs for as long as possible by delaying further development of anthelmintic resistance.

The updated guidelines account for recent advances in knowledge concerning increased anthelmintic resistance and optimization of parasite control management practices. They also address common misconceptions and offer parasite control program recommendations for senior horses (over 15 years old), mature horses (between 5 and 15 years old), and young horses (under 5 years old).

The guidelines were reviewed and updated by the AAEP Internal Parasite Control Guidelines Task Force, chaired by Dr. Nielsen and comprised of 10 AAEP members predominantly board certified in veterinary internal medicine, veterinary parasitology and/or veterinary microbiology. Smoke is turning into a smoke show 🔥🔥🔥. He's funny, inquisitive, and mischievous but he is stunning 😍 . A friend gave me a good idea to measure his growth each week and on Friday he measured 14.1hh and 540lbs .

So had my doctor look at my ankle, since it was the root cause of my fall. And he admitted it's not his area of expertise and that I should probably see a specialist... but, he looked at it and said my ankle shouldn't have as much range of motion as it does and so how many times have I sprained it??? 😆 😆 😆 , I told him I couldn't possibly answer that question because I lost count a LOOOOOONG time ago. with my family genetics, the limit does not exist. He recommended a brace and to talk to a podiatrist about possible injections to shrink the ligaments. So see, I'm not clumsy, I just have an extra bendy ankle, 🤣🤣🤣.

So... Totally fell off Titan this evening. And I wish I could say it was because he was being a bucking bronco or something of the like. But nope my Badish knees, ankle, clumsy genes took over my body tonight as I was attempting to get in the saddle. I'm probably going to hurt tomorrow from landing on the mounting block... yes, I fell getting into the saddle from the mounting block. I might be great with horses but really bad with the whole gravity thing. Luckily Titan is the BEST and just stood there and stared down at me as I stared up at him from my back on the ground; saddle ajar from gripping it to slow my dishonorable dismount, mid-air. And yes, he was totally judging his ridiculous trainer. I'm also grateful that I'm already off tomorrow to see the doctor for a regular checkup. 🤦‍♂️😑😆😂🤣🐴

It's no wonder that I LOVE Spectre, a horse in training, so much. He checks off every single box for grandsires in his breeding that I want. Brings together all my favorite characteristics from horses past into one package. Not to mention his size, confirmation and gait. (chef's kiss)

So often I read comments from people about horses, "just let him be a baby, he has his whole life to be trained." And other similar sentiments. This guy here is the perfect example of why it is CRITICAL to work your babies. I trained Titan as a weanling and yearling until he went to a show barn. He was desensitized, taught to move away from pressure, taught to take direction and move his feet. He was taught to stand and most importantly, how to think. All the natural horsemanship fundamentals. He is now about 17 years old. These are the first couple sessions working with him since he was 1. It took him a minute, but he remembers all the basics. It has been imprinted into his young brain to come to surface almost 2 decades later. I wish there was more to go off of in the videos but trust me when I say, start their learning early and you'll set them up for success for life.
