We’ll get in some outside time on rain breaks today (hopefully), but in the meantime, working some crate games, impulse control and recalls with Buc. Adding in more of his favorite things (his brothers) as distractions!! Good boy!!
Some two-toy-tug play with Buc today :)
A little peek in to Buc's lunch time training today..
Most of my sessions are fairly casual but have a good bit of content/purpose in them. Short bits of each skill to keep him interested and engaged. 99.9% of the time I train with the food right beside me/with me/accessible - teaches the dogs "where" reinforcement comes from (me) and to ignore the food in the open (impulse control). Additionally, I typically train the puppies (depending on what I want to work on) with a big dog around. This teaches them that working with me is better than engaging the big pups (impulse control) and that when we are working, it's work time, not play time (focus/attention). He's allowed to make choices and when he thinks about pouncing on Ori, it allows me to redirect him - he makes really nice choices and Buc is fully IN when he's working (as I would expect) but it's so fun to see them really be onboard with working/training/interacting.
I'm often asked how everyone is doing with him.. The big guys are always great with new pups but please know things are done in a very structured manner. My guys are huge, Buc is small. They all love playing with and engaging with him, however, one smack of one of those big paws and he can easily get hurt. Buc is positive he's not small, so all play and interaction is managed by me always. He's brilliant and will recall out of play with a big dog and come to me, so that is also a skill that I will maintain and build on as he continues to age up and mature.
Today we just did some fun human cavalettis (Buc walks over my legs to help him learn how to pick up his feet, where his feet are, and how to navigate), some left and right turns/spins - which will be put on cue later, a little bit of "think about going backwards" (back up is taught via a variety of pictures/methods to my young puppies) and then finished with a down and a bit of easy body handling (me messing with his ears and face) to keep him used to being touched and messed with (as this wi
