The walk is meant to…. Be a walk. Not a sniff fest.
Dogs require daily exercise both mentally and physically. And although sniffing does help add some mental stimulation, that should not be the sole focus of your dog’s daily walk.
Instead think quality exercise. This should include fluid pacing for meeting physical needs and asking basic skills such as maintaining a loose leash or heel position for mental stimulation. Asking your dog to allocate some focus to the task on hand is going to build their engagement with you as the handler. You’ll start to notice how much more they enjoy their daily walks, because YOU the OWNER are involved. You’re building boundaries, respect, confidence, as well as mentally and physically stimulating your dog all in one walk. It’s a win win!
Too many times are we seeing owners being dragged down the street from mailbox to mailbox for their dog to sniff and mark repeatedly. We don’t say dogs have some of the most powerful noses for nothing…. I promise you… they could smell that smell from down the street. They don’t need to obsess over it and make a scene.
Now this isn’t suggesting your dog never gets to stop and sniff. By all means! Sniff away! But try to keep it to only 20% of the walk.
PRO TIP: try to allow sniff stops on your time. Meaning, don’t allow the dog to suddenly stop and yank you to the bush. Find a nice grassy area and take a few minutes to break and sniff around. And then go back to your loose leash walk when you’re ready.

This is really sad…. My heart is broken for this family.
But it is something that needs to be spoken about. Loose dogs and dog attacks are on the rise. And the main reason why? Neglectful owners.
Dog owners need to start toughening up and training their dogs. The mentality of “they’re just dogs. Dogs do dog things” needs to stop. Your pets are your responsibility. And that includes taking liability for their actions.
I can confidently tell you, without reading the news story, that these dogs did not do this out of the blue. Aggressive behaviors build, and they show signs very early on. Most owners miss these signs, or completely ignore them. Is that due to lack of education or ignorance 🤷🏼♀️ the world may never know.
But we will do our part here to educate. When your dog starts snapping at people, hire a trainer. When your dog is fearful, hire a trainer. When your dog is escaping your home and yard, build a fence, and hire a trainer. When your dog chases bikes, hire a trainer. IT DOES NOT JUST GET BETTER. It gets worse. And fixing it takes work and upkeep.
What happened to this child is not fair. What happened to this family will change them forever. And the aftermath effects of this attack on the community, are unimaginable. This is exactly how breeds bands happen. And this is entirely preventable.
Are you making this mistake?

Remember this major key when potty training your dog. Potty on leash first, freedom second. Eventually you can ditch the leash once the dog is consistent with pottying right away when they get outside. But until then, that leash is your best friend!

One of the most under appreciated skills in dog training is crate training. Most owners have goals to get their dogs out of their crate as quickly as possible: giving freedom at very young ages, sleeping freely in the house, etc. But what they don’t realize, is this will lead to more issues than good.
Consistently crate-trained dogs tend to have less reactivity, resource guarding issues, and separation anxiety, as well as increased self-soothing and self-control skills. We recommend to utilize the crate for as long as possible, even beyond the puppy stage, as these skills can be invaluable in emergency situations or other life events.
Remember! If you don’t use it, you lose it. And your dog’s comfort in their crate is not something you want to lose. 🐾

We are often asked how we proof off leash reliability. The truth is there is no proofing “off leash” work specifically.
Off leash reliability comes down to the amount of consistency and the relationship you’ve built over time, your dog having a clear understanding of basic obedience commands, and proper conditioning to the e collar.
Bosley here understands that when e collar stimulation goes on, he should check in. It’s not that he is doing anything bad per se, but when he’s needed to give focus to his handler, the e collar signals for him to do so. This is built up through multiple sessions of obedience on leash, sufficient rewards for every good decision and eye contact, and proper daily stimulation. You cannot ask an untrained, unconditioned, and under stimulated dog to behave and respond this way to a training tool, especially while off leash.
✨But when done right, you can have a well behaved adventure buddy ready to take on the world✨

Some would say this technique is detrimental to building the human➡️dog relationship. We say, watch and see for yourself.
A brief moment of pressure and pushing our dogs through scary situations does not need to be pictured as negative and unfair, but instead potential to unlocking a wealth of confidence and problem solving skills.
Normal every day owners are not owning perfectly bred puppies with natural problem solving skills and confidence. These things are built over time through experience. And experiencing pressure or even scary situations where the dog is shown a positive outcome, is key for overall development.
Instead of shying away from pushing our dogs through tough moments, we encourage owners to guide and direct when they see fear, discomfort, apprehension, etc. from their dog! Sometimes the toughest moments make the biggest difference. 🐾
