Did you know that a horse takes 9-12 months to re-grow an entire hoof?

I have to admit I was pretty pink cheeked when he tried to pilfer all the VS Total Heartthrob swag (still can't blame him), but we're absolutely having a blast meeting all the people and schmoozing with all of the incredible stallions that are at CBC and waiting for their classes!

I'm waiting for my chance to show too, and while I'm waiting to ride I'm not just kissing beautiful horses and chatting with all the wonderful people, I'm offering MagnaWave services and helping prep champions!

Hello Saturday! Hello road! Sometimes I feel like it's a never-ending journey. I'm partially right because road tripping from upstate New York to the middle of Texas is a rather big endeavor. It's not like I'm popping down the road a piece to the supermarket. It's... well... a haul.

While long and arduous, it's also extremely beautiful given the time of year. Mountains, valleys, rivers, cities... They all seem to glow a bit brighter in autumn light.

Know what else is glowing? My back and shoulders. Driving great distances is not exactly the best thing we can do to our bodies.

As noted yesterday, I'm doing my best to stop and stretch. I know when I get to my destination, I have a date with MagnaWave and that's definitely a big part of what's keeping me going.
.. that and getting to show at ! I'm so ridiculously excited!

So... While I'm still crossing along the highways towards my destination, I'm starting to wonder what it is about horses that excites YOU. Is it showing? Is it trail riding? Is it just being in their presence?

Tell me. I totally want to know!

On the road again!

By the time y'all start reading this, I'll be well into a very long drive down to Texas to meet up with my favorite trainer and head on up to Tulsa for ! That said, I will be making stops along the way, grabbing snackies and stretching my legs. It's actually incredibly important that people do get out and stretch and get their bodies moving during these large trips. Helps keep the circulation percolating and all that good stuff.

You can also bet the farm that I'll be enjoying a good MagnaWave session when I stop overnight and, of course, when I get to my destination.

Anyway, I'll absolutely be available to answer DMs and texts when I make this pit stops - and I'm still booking MagnaWave sessions for horses at CBC and the Tulsa area while I'm there.

It's Monday... Again... Ugh...

I don't don't about you, but the colder it gets, the stiffer and achier I get. I know I'm not alone, either.

Only 7 days to go until I say adios to Ithaca and head to Texas to join my trainer in prep for our big trip to . I can't say that I'm not just a teensy bit excited to be making the journey... Ok I'm a lot a bit excited. I love everything about horse shows and riding and... Well... Horses. I think I love horses more than Fall and that's saying a whole lot considering how wonderful the season really is.

Just last night I made chicken and dumplings for dinner. It was a process, but after an hour long "phone a friend" lifeline, I had it way under control and it was a lovely way to round out a chilly autumn day. Fall food is better than horse show food (unless you're talking about one of those cinnamon buns that are the size of your head that the baked potato cart guy sells at Will Rogers in Fort Worth during the big shows. IYKYK.)

Which reminds me... While food nourishes the body and the soul, it can sometimes need a bit of assistance - which is why I still rely very heavily on MagnaWave to make sure my horses, and the rest of my family (including little ol' me) stay at peak performance throughout these more physically trying times of the year. That... And making sure to stay hydrated.

Did you know that it's a common misnomer that we require less water when its cold than when it's hot? In fact, we should be consuming more because of how drying the cold can really be. It's actually why it's a wise idea to add an extra bucket in your stall (if you don't already have two 5 gals or an auto waterer hanging) and measure out a bit of salt into your horse's grain ration. Keep them drinking, keep things moving, and help ward off colic during the cold. Ever notice how colics tend to occur more in fall and winter? Yep. Dehydration.

Which reminds me... It's time for another glass of cider.

Monday is here again and while most of you are running (or zombie walking) to grab that next cup of coffee, I'm happily thinking about my upcoming schedule. But first, back to the coffee.

Well now that Friday the 13th has come and gone with all of its superstition and spookiness, we can go back to focusing on the meat and potatoes of spooky season! Last week I addressed how much I absolutely adore all things fall, how it leaves me feeling invigorated and so very alive. Halloween is a huge part of that guilty pleasure left over from my childhood.

This year I'll be spending Halloween on the road, driving with my trainer from Texas to Tulsa, Oklahoma. It's time and move in day is on November 1st. While I kinda sorta give up the fun of Halloween and all the tricks or treats that come with it, I'm making a trade for the best treat of all; time with friends and family doing what I love.

In combination with riding and showing, I'll be offering my MagnaWave services to the beautiful equine athletes that will be competing. It's my hope that I can be part of their success as much as they are a part of mine. After all, it's Fall... My winning season.

Whacky Wednesday Whinny:

Did you know that horses can't throw up?

It's true! Horses do not have the ability to vomit! They simply cannot toss their cookies because they possess a valve at the entrance of the stomach called cardias or " Swiss tie ", the muscles of this valve are so strong that they prevent food from returning to the mouth.

This inability to up chuck makes horses highly susceptible to issues like colic and other gastric troubles like ulcers, which is why we have to be so careful about what and how we feed them.

Hello, October! At last we meet again.. Finally.

While everyone else is lamenting the end of hot girl summer, I’m over here happily crawling into my favorite cozy sweater and watching the leaves turn and fall with a cup of cider in my hands. Autumn and Winter are my “thriving” seasons. Y’all can keep your southern summers, I’ll keep my cold and bundle up to stay cozy warm. One of us has a roaring fire and leaves as bright as precious jewels. The other has their makeup melt off in the 2.5 seconds it takes to walk from their front doors to their cars. We are not the same.

Still love you, though!

In between admiring Halloween displays and roaming through various Fall Fests here in beautiful, picturesque upstate New York, I’m preparing to leave my Hallmark town and give up my front row seat to Autumn’s splendor - at least for a couple weeks. Crazy, right? Who would want to head to Tulsa, Oklahoma for fall? Me.

While tourists flock in my direction for a chance to see the beauty of a New England Fall, I am packing my bags to head to Tulsa and participate in the 2023 Color Breed Congress!

The only thing that smells better that Fall is a can of Pepi, and I’m 100% there for it - both as a spectator and providing my services to the incredible equine and human athletes that are there to show in hopes of leaving as Congress Champions. So from November 1 - 11, I will be out of town in pursuit of my own horse show destiny!

Whacky Wednesday Whinny:

Did you know that horses have the largest eyes of any land mammal?

With their eyes being set laterally (on the sides of their heads), horses have a range of vision of about 350°, with approximately 65° of this being binocular vision and the remaining 285° monocular vision.

By comparison, we humans only have a range of vision of about 190° binocular and 120° uniocular - meaning unlike horses, the vast majority of our vision is binocular.
