The Blackheart Extrication Team from completed their final training at the MDFR Training Center on Thursday before heading out to participate in the 2023 World Rescue Challenge in Lanzarote, Spain. The MDFR Blackhearts are one of three teams from the United States qualified to compete in the challenge.

Since 1999, the annual World Rescue Challenge has been held in order to enable teams to enhance skills and compete by performing under realistic conditions and measured against recognized global standards.

The competition brings together rescue and emergency workers from all over the world to share, learn and exchange information in order to develop their skills in effective post-crash intervention and the development of combined rescue and medical care.

Please join us in wishing the team the best of luck!

Good morning everyone,

We're writing to let you know that due to the high volume of TNVR trapping requests, we are now prioritizing requests by urgency. This means that we will be responding to requests for cats that are in immediate danger or distress first.

We know that this may be frustrating for some of you, but we want to make sure that we are using our resources in the most effective way possible. We appreciate your understanding and patience.

If you have a trapping request, please fill out our form at [https://airtable.com/shrcJsbDLqB8b9CsW].
We will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you,
Blackheart Trappers, Transport & Rescue 🖤

▪︎ What is TNVR? TNVR stands for Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return. It is a humane and effective way to manage feral cat populations.

▪︎ Why are you prioritizing requests by urgency? We want to make sure that we are helping the cats that need it the most. Cats that are in immediate danger or distress are more likely to suffer if they are not trapped and treated.

▪︎ How can I submit a trapping request? You can submit a trapping request by filling out our form at [https://airtable.com/shrcJsbDLqB8b9CsW].

▪︎ How long will it take for me to hear back? We will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible. However, due to the high volume of requests, it may take some time.

Thank you for your understanding and patience. We appreciate your support of our work.

***WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT***

We trap this badly injured community cat last night when we were doing TNVR at a colony.

May is Community Cat Caretaker month. If you are a Caretaker and you notice anything medically wrong with any member of your colony please reach out to a Rescue or another member of the rescue community for help. Community cats are dependent on there caretakers and the cost a vet bill worries you, Miami-Dade Animal Services has FREE TNVR program available to all community cats and if the community cat has an eartip you can still get them seen by a vet for an evaluation and if it's something they are capable of doing they will do it. We have taken countless sick & injured community cats to them from eye removals to amputations. Doing nothing shouldn't be an option and waiting to long isn't one either.

As for this kitty, it's caretakers contacted us for help with trapping and we answered the call. The kitty will be transported this morning to their vet and her vet bill will be covered by them. I'm a little concerned about what's on her chest but she will be seen by a Licensed veterinary for treatment. We will be focused on TNVR of the rest of colony.

"IT'S HIP TO BE TIPPED"

Miami-Dade Animal Services calls on the public to help manage the community cat population by bringing cats for FREE Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return services
Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department (Animal Services) reminds residents that “It’s hip to be tipped” and encourages them to bring community cats for FREE Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) services. The TNVR program helps humanely manage the County’s outdoor cat population by vaccinating, sterilizing, and ear-tipping community cats (left ear) to indicate they have received services. The TNVR program allows free roaming cats to live healthy happy lives with their feline colonies while reducing kitten births.

“As a cat owner myself, I know how hip it is to be tipped because it means that our community cats are getting good care. If we want to see more of our community cats sporting tipped ears, we need residents’ help to bring cats in for care and to help us identify large cat colonies so that we can target efforts for greatest impact,” said Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “I am very proud of the Animal Services team and our animal-loving residents for working together to keep our community animals healthy and safe.”

Animal Services’ TNVR program is an industry leading best practice that aims to humanely manage the free roaming cat population and is available to any Miami-Dade County resident to bring in outdoor cats to be vaccinated and sterilized for free, before returning the cats to their community. Residents can take cats to the Animal Services Pet Adoption and Protection Center or the Pets Thrive in 305 Community Cat Center for these free services. Once the cats have been medically cleared for release, residents can pick up the cats and return them to the location where the cats were trapped. Animal Services offers traps on loan to help residents catch the cats.

Residents can also submit a service request for cat trapping services by filling out a request online or calling 311. Request are prioritized by the density of the identified cat population and volume of request in particular areas. All cats are returned to their cat colonies in their neighborhoods after they have received services from Animal Services and are ear tipped.

TNVR services are provided on a walk-in basis only. No appointment is required at either location.

• Pet Adoption and Protection Center in Doral
3599 NW 79th Avenue Doral, Florida 33122

• Cats must be at least 2 months old or weigh 2 pounds to be eligible for TNVR services.

• Once services have been performed and the cats are medically cleared for release, the cats will be returned to their cat colony home location where the cats were living.

Lost pets deserve our best efforts to reunite them with their families. And of lost pets entering shelters today, estimates show, fewer than 32% are being reunited with their families. That's why we are committed to helping our animal welfare partners Do The Reunite Thing and help 50% of lost pets who enter their care find their way home by 2024.

Are you ready to Do the Reunite Thing too? Share this post to help us spread the word and together we can do the right thing for all lost and missing pets. 💪💜🐾

📣 FREE NECROPSY SERVICE for cats 👈
As cat lovers and caretakers, there comes a time when we lose one of our animals -- whether it's a cat we've just come into contact with or one we've been attending to for years. Sometimes, the cause of death is clear; sometimes it's not. Many times, a necropsy is cost prohibitive. We're happy to share with you a FREE RESOURCE for finding some answers.

Dr. Adam Stern, a veterinarian, veterinary pathologist and Professor of Forensic Pathology at the University of Florida, recently asked us to share information regarding his program, 'A Cat Has No Name.' This is a FREE program designed to determine the cause of death of free-roaming cats and simultaneously help live cats, particularly when there are multiple sick and deceased cats living together. His department provides FREE diagnostic service for cat colonies in order to improve their overall welfare. This program is OPEN TO ALL community cats and ALL PEOPLE in ALL STATES. You do not need to work in animal welfare to submit a cat; they will also accept cats from colony caretakers and individuals.

For more information or to submit a cat, contact Dr. Stern at [email protected] or call 352-294-4077. Save or download the flyer below so you have this information at your fingertips when you need it.
