What's wrong here? In the past week, because I'm a dog trainer and also raise McNabs I've had 3 very interesting and disturbing phone conversations. All 3 calls were from different owners of McNabs dogs, not from me. All have major behavior problems. Biting is the biggest issue. One woman who's mother 80 years young lives with her. The dog attacks and bites the mother. She is afraid to leave the dog at home alone with her mother. Other anxiety issues as well. Another woman's dog protects her from and bites her own husband. The dog comes between them constantly. Anxiety issues with this dog also. The 3rd dog has anxiety issues cannot be left alone, relieves itself in it's bed inside his carrier at night.
With my vast experiencewith all dogs over the past 50+ years, I tried to resolve the problems with the best advice I could. But, the bottom line is, the breeders of these dogs should never have sold the dogs to these people.
MCNABS are NOT strictly a pet. They are a WORKING dog first, although they make great companions when in the right placement. They are NOT a pet first.
The last resort for these people is to return the dog to the breeder. A responsible breeder would accept the dog back and re-home it to a more acceptable working ranch. Come on you would-be breeders, be more responsible and place these wonderful McNabs into proper homes where they will succeed and not fail.

Sassy's litter was born last night. And of course the temperature got up to 112 today. Babysitting puppies all day. Sue's litter hugs the ice bottles. But I have to keep cooling Sassy's litter. They can't move good yet.

To settle quite a lot unrealistic notions of what and where the McNab dog came from and it's original purpose, I m going to post old publications that I believe to be the true stories about the origin of the McNab Shepherd, or The Fox Shepherd from Scotland.
Myrtel Brown long past was a true McNab breeder. And also Donna Seigmund also an original McNab breeder as was Alvina Butti who wrote these articles.If you're really interested about the true story of this wonderful breed.

Now that I've had fun and enjoyed everyone's comments on my last post about breeding out the white on the McNabs. This is Archiebald. I call him Archie. He is my most spoiled, my shadow, my protector, and an awesome herding dog with bite on cattle. I know, because I keep records, that he is 9 generations of McNabs going back to at least 1973. He has an abundance of white and I love this dog to the moon.

I've tried breeding for years to breed all the white BorderCollie markings off my McNabs. And on one line I have pretty much succeeded. However, other lines still produce the Spanish Shepherd coloring from over 100 years ago. Can't get the genetic out, no matter what DNA says. Lol

Why are so many McNab dogs going to shelters? It's because the self-called breeders are not representing the breed to the client in a clear manner. They only want the dollars. McNabs are a Stockdog. They either need livestock to work or a job of some sort. They are NOT strictly a pet.
Represent the dog properly and make the client aware. If they don't have a job of some sort or an activity for the pup, do not sell it to them. Be a responsible breeder. Think of the breed NOT the dollars.
