Is your pet scooting or licking their rear? It might be due to their a**l glands. A**l glands, located near the rear of dogs and cats, produce an oily, fishy-smelling fluid used for scent marking. These glands can sometimes become impacted or infected, leading to discomfort.

Common causes of irritation include soft/consistent stool and allergies. If your pet is exhibiting excessive scooting, licking, or signs of discomfort around their rear end, contact us. We can help identify the cause and determine the best course of treatment to ensure your pet’s well-being.

During Florida’s rainy season, keep your pets safe and entertained with these tips:

1. Indoor Activities: Use interactive toys, puzzles, and games for mental stimulation.
2. Safe Space: Create a cozy spot for pets to retreat to during storms.
3. Exercise: Try indoor exercises like hallway fetch or stair climbing.
4. Rain Gear: Invest in raincoats and booties for dry outdoor walks.
5. Clean Up: Keep towels handy to dry off wet pets and prevent allergy flare ups.
6. Covered Potty Area: Set up a covered area in your yard where your pet can go without getting soaked. This could be under a porch, awning, or a makeshift shelter.

Keep your pets happy, healthy, and safe this rainy season! ☔

Two cherished members of our Brookside family have recently embarked into new chapters of their lives.

Denise, with her unwavering compassion over 15 years, was the reassuring presence at our reception, offering warmth and comfort to every individual who walked through our hospital doors. Her genuine care and nurturing spirit touched the lives of countless individuals, making their every visit a little brighter. Denise’s presence wasn’t just felt at the front desk; it resonated throughout our entire Brookside family, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of crossing paths with her.

Anthony, a beloved member for 7 years, has left an impactful mark with his exceptional dedication to our clients and patients. His commitment to providing the highest standard of care and his invaluable leadership in ensuring the smooth operation of our hospital will be greatly missed. Anthony’s door was always open, his comforting presence a reassuring beacon for anyone in need of support or guidance. Whether it was a listening ear or a helping hand, he offered it willingly, embodying the true essence of compassion and camaraderie. Thank you for being a friend 🎶

Though we feel the void of their absence, we send them off with heartfelt wishes for success in their new endeavors, knowing they will forever remain a cherished part of our Brookside family.

Is your pet scooting or licking their rear? It could be their a**l glands.

A**l glands are located on the rear of dogs and cats. The glands produce an oily, fishy-smelling fluid that helps with scent marking. Sometimes these glands can get impacted or infected.

Soft, consistent stool, as well as allergies, are common causes of irritation. If your pet is scooting, licking excessively, or showing signs of discomfort around their rear end, contact us! We will help to identify the cause and determine the best course of treatment.

With tomorrow being Hairball Awareness Day, we wanted to remind our cat parents about the importance of preventing hairballs.

Accumulated from excessive grooming, hairballs can build in your cat’s digestive system and either get coughed up or in some cases, need surgical removal.
If your cat is excessively vomiting, lethargic, loses their appetite, or has diarrhea or constipation, these may be signs of a blockage and you should contact our team immediately.

Brushing your pet’s teeth daily is a great way to practice good oral health. Along with the many flavored toothpastes that are out there, we can also recommend effective rinses, treats, and chews that help keep your pet’s smile healthy and as pain-free as can be!
