I let Zeus choose his path today as long as he maintained a loose leash and it was safe.

Bella is a 13 week old heeler that rocked her lesson yesterday!

We worked on leash walking and socialization. She even got to see a firetruck up close, she handled it like a pro!😁

April 10-16 is National Dog Bite Prevention Week!

An estimated 4.5 million people in the U.S., mostly children, are bitten by dogs annually and 20% of those require immediate medical attention.

Teaching children what and what not to do around dogs is extremely important! Understanding dog body language is also very helpful.

Remember EVERY dog can bite!

Meet Scarlett!

6 year old Scarlett has some pretty severe fear based aggression. On our first session, months ago I noticed how anxious Scarlett was. I recommended to her mom that she get her into a veterinarian Behaviorist. While still working on the basics.

Fast forward 2 months- With the help of a veterinary Behaviorist, Scarlett is doing so much better! With her anxiety down, she can now settle in the house and outside and doesn't consistently bark at owner. We also had our first out and about training session and she didn't react once!

Great job to these two! Scarlett's mom never gave up on her and the problems they were having!

Had great training sessions with these two boys last night! Boomer( German shepherd) Milo( corgi) did GREAT! Milo is learning that a sit pretty is different than being asked to sit and doesn't get rewarded lol. Boomer is almost 1 year old and is working on basic obedience and most importantly impulse control.

Have a dog that destroys beds? shredding a bed can be self reinforcing and become a learned behavior. No bed will ever be safe. Invest in one of these. Truly the best dog bed I've ever purchased!

Dog's don't come programmed to be well behaved. Yes some are easier than others but all Dog's start out as a blank slate. It is up to us to be their teachers or be part of the problem. Training opportunities are happening all the time. Not just when we decide it's training time.

This is a very good reminder! Every dog learns at a different pace and some behaviors or cues will be easier to teach then others. PATIENCE is key! If we take the time and break it down into the steps our dog's need, it will be so much easier and you will feel like your actually succeeding.

If your dog is having trouble with something you are teaching them, make it easier and reward for any little success towards what it is you're wanting them to actually do.

Tip Tuesday!
Slow is fast. Set your dog up for success and go at your dog's pace while training. Progress is relative and unique to each individual dog.

If your dog has to see the vet as much as my dog does, they probably don't like the vet also. It's something that we have to do to keep them healthy and happy but it's very stressful for them.

There are things we can do though to help our furry friends feel a little bit better about the vets office :)

This is very good info! And not just for the holidays. Always keep your vet and any emergency vet's information where they can easily be found. (Mine are in my phone under contacts :)) Have a plan for which emergency vet is closest and how you will get there.

I had the pleasure of meeting with a wonderful new family and their dog Luna today. Luna is having some fear issues that have resulted in barking and lunging. I can't wait to see how Luna can become more confident!

Meet Zander! He's a 2 year old Golden Retriever/Labrador retriever mix that is so fun to work with! Zanders biggest hurdle is that he LOVES people and attention so much he forgets what's appropriate behavior when interacting with them. For Zander we are working on polite greetings and impulse control.

Most of unwanted behavior is because the dog hasn't been managed, shown what's the right behavior and rewarded for doing the right thing. Do you go to work and do your job for no paycheck? :)
