Brightstar Bernese Mountain Dogs Our priority is to breed Bernese mountain dogs with good health, temperaments and longevity. There is nothing quite like a Bernese. They're simply the best dogs!

We preform all BMDCA recommended health testing on our dogs, plus extra! My name is Karrie Thompson, my husband Cliff and I live in Randle, Washington. We're located just 2 hours southeast of Seattle and 2 hours northeast of Portland, Oregon; making it a lovely drive to the countryside. We own seven acres that we get to enjoy every day with our 6 Bernese. Our dogs are our family and they love to g

o hiking, swimming, and even go to work with us! We aim for our dogs to live life to the fullest with us in the beautiful Big Bottom Valley.

I fell in love with this breed around 18 years ago. From the moment I saw one, I knew one day I would have my very own berner. It took seven long years, but finally my dream came true and I bought my very first Bernese, Summit. Since owning Summit we have welcomed eleven Berners into our lives, hearts and home. We made the decision to breed these beautiful dogs in 2012, but after many setbacks we didn't get our first litter until 2020. Penna gave us 3 beautiful litters and a deeper love for the breed. During the last few years, we have spent countless hours researching breeders and pedigrees from Europe. Our goal is to import the best examples of the breed that we could find and breed from those lines. We have been so lucky to have imported from many countries including; Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine. Our priority is to breed Bernese mountain dogs with good health, temperament and longevity. We preform all BMDCA recommended health testing on our dogs, plus some extra. We test for OFA Hips, OFA elbows, OFA Shoulders, OFA Patellas, Degenerative Myelopathy SOD1-A and SOD1-B, and Von Willebrand's disease. By doing all recommended health testing on our dogs we hope to better the breed and produce healthy puppies!

So the puppies have had some diarrhea since Saturday and we are thinking it's either the antibiotics or the new formula they got put on. We have since stopped the goats milk formula and have switched back to the old. The ones that are pooping seem to be firming up, however we have some that haven't gone for a few hours. I assume their just firming up their stool. We will keep watch to make sure they are going and do what we can to get things moving. This happened last week to when we switched to the goats milk, so praying the remedy will work again.

We have been up bottle feeding these babies every 2.5 to 3 hours and they seem to be doing well and growing. They're getting more vocal and wiggly by the day.

Last night we gave more sub q fluids to them. They were constipated, so we called the vet to find the right concoction to get things moving. Sorry for it's seemed to work. She wants us to to give more sub q fluids tonight, which is easier said than done with these wiggle worms!

Thank you to all that have helped, prayed, and reached out. It means the world. We will keep updating when we can, but this experience is very exhausting on the body and mind so it may take a day or two.

It's a new day and we still have 8! Black boy took a turn this morning, but we gave him plasma, gas drops, antibiotics and probiotics and as of now he's ok.

Thank you to everyone for the prayers and well wishes. This has been a nightmare of an experience that no breeder should face.

Our vet believes that this is a gi virus. Since Winnie had a c-section/spay, causing her to not get any milk, the puppies didn't receive colostrum. They didn't get the needed antibodies from their momma to fight off any microbiome. We took Endy and Millie in yesterday to get their blood to spin down into plasma. It was then injected in large doses into the puppies so they would recieve their antibodies to help fight infections. They are also on antibiotics, probiotics, gas drops as needed and sub q fluids as needed.

I'm not sure yet if we're out of the woods, but I hope we are on the right path to seeing these babies grow into beautiful puppies. We miss our angels that have gone to heaven, but are happy to have some of their siblings here on earth still.

The remaining 8 🥲 let hope they take a turn for the better and Dr. Cheryl saved their lives.

An update on the babies. We lost another little girl. The vet can't pin point what this is. But suspects it could be that when the puppies where born, they didn't get any colostrum therfore they have no antibodies. They could have caught a bug and it's affecting there gitract causing them to bloat and be in extreme pain. The vet worked on our little girl for an hour trying to save her, but she just couldn't.

We took Endy and Millie to give plasma to be spun down to give to the puppies. They've had plasma, sub q fluids, antibiotics and probiotics. Now we wait to see if it works.

It's has been a whirlwind of a day... we are getting puppies acclimated to the bottle along with getting Winnies milk to come in. She's still not sure of what they are and are a bit taken aback by them. They got to nurse on her for ahile today to help stimulate her milk. She finally ate some hamburger, goats milk and puppy food. I'm hoping tomorrow will improve with everyone's progression.

I have finally tallied these little bears. We have 7 girls and 5 boys! All 1 lb or more!

Winnie lost 23 lbs after her c-section!
