Want your business to be the top-listed Pet Store/pet Service?
My dream job started where so many do, in childhood. I always knew I wanted to be around animals and I pulled all kinds of stunts as a child to make that a reality for myself. I was lucky to have dogs, cats, mice, and a neighbor with a horse in my life. People would always say, “That girl loves animals.” But I didn’t just want pets, I wanted to know all about them, how to care for them, train them, & communicate with them. As life would have it, I chose to pursue another dream in college and became a middle school Language Arts teacher, eventually earning a Masters in School Counseling. Shortly after, I left my teaching career for several years to be the best mom of two boys and as many dogs as I could possibly be.
Fast forward to 2019, after my boys graduated, free to pursue what I love, I went to work in a groom shop. That was all it took, I was bitten by the grooming bug, and my passion to work creatively & compassionately with animals was ignited again! I learned as much as I could while working in the shop, always asking questions, and studying virtually with master groomers, while habitually collecting equipment. (So much equipment!) Ultimately, I felt that the responsibility of putting a precious pet on my table and working on them with sharp instruments required more than just the minimal knowledge of pet grooming that I could get online or at the shop. Because I’m driven to be the best me I can be, I wanted more hands-on experience; so I invested in my passion and returned to school. In February 2020, I graduated with an internationally accredited diploma from JKL Training and a certification from The Groomer’s Training School, as well as a certification in Pet CPR and First Aid. My mobile zoom groom room will be ready to roll starting April 8th. I’m the type who never stops studying and I will be adding cats to my repertoire. (Currently I am available for cat nails and baths only. I do not have the proper equipment to shave cats at this time.)
In addition to my formal schooling for grooming, I have years of experience with dogs. I’ve fostered many dogs over the years, I take my own dogs to training on a regular basis, and I’m the Director of the Hounds of Prison Education, a program sponsored by the Central Pennsylvania Animal Alliance. HOPE operates out of the Camp Hill State Corrections Institute, providing rescued dogs an opportunity to train, while living with an inmate handler and working weekly with a trainer. I work with dogs daily and I meet with trainers at least weekly. My work with HOPE is a beautiful opportunity to offer second chances to both ends of the leash. I love my work with HOPE, helping inmates learn new skills, and getting dogs-in-need adopted. My career as a groomer will mesh perfectly with my role at HOPE, always learning, gaining knowledge in training, and always helping animals. I specialize in cooperative grooming, because my background with positive-based training science has convinced me this is what is best, safest, and most enjoyable for our pets.
