The Idaho Reined Cowhorse Assn. Classic Derby was a success. Catastrophic Cat placed in the Int. Open Two-rein and Spectacular, bringing home another check. But the real spotlight goes to Jon Roeser who cleaned up, whipping us all! Congratulations to him and his clientele. They had a great show by anyone's standards!

Wrapped up Gem State Stock Horse Association first show of the year with a bang! Marking a 73 in the reining and 74 down the fence! A fantastic run for Catastrophic Cat, sealing the number one spot and headed home as the champ in the Open Two-Rein! We are super thankful that owners Bev and Terry Rees from Elk, WA could be there in person to share the experience. We didn't stick around for action shots so I took quite a bit of time to sit down and masterfully sketch out our run for those of you who were not there to see it in person.

We exited Eugene, Oregon this past weekend after attending the Northwest Reined Cowhorse Association show, winning reserve champion in the open two-rein during Sunday's event. Catastrophic Cat was great, the trip was great, and the company was great! A couple of days rest and off to the Gem State Stock Horse Association show this coming weekend!

"The most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why." M.T.

Sitting in the hotel last night after the horse show had me contemplating this quote. I was trying to think about the day I recognized most as the day that had me hooked on horse training, riding bucking horses, or when I realized my life would be shaped around this lifestyle.... the "day I found out why" or (what) I was born to do. I thought I'd write something up about it today and post it, rather than posting about the show results (there was nothing exciting to report anyhow) .... the problem is, I couldn't narrow down that day. I believe the spirit has a way of directing our thoughts and today while pulling out of the horse show, He came to my rescue.... maybe even called me to repentance. The thought of my girls flooded my mind and I was reminded, my "why" has nothing to do with horses, this lifestyle, or any other passion or desire. I'm raising my "why" right now. Trying to anyway! Aside from building a relationship with my Savior, the only other thing that's of any importance is my relationship with my girls. I really am doing all I do, for them. Today I was reminded of "why."
Happy Easter!

Another win for Catastrophic Cat in Las Vegas in the Open Two-rein! 2nd highest marked ride of the entire show. The best part of the entire trip was not the win though, it was the opportunity to be with my 3 hired hands for their spring break. They were wore out in the end, so was I! These pictures mean more than any show picture I've ever had.

An old picture but same great horse. Catastrophic Cat takes show #2 of the NWRCHA "Chill Chaser Cowhorse Show" today in Eugene, Oregon by winning the Open Two-Rein! It was a great weekend spent with the Rees family (owners). We're all so grateful to this little horse and the effort he gives us each time. He's been a blessing in our lives in more ways than one.

Squeezing in another last-minute, quick trip to Las Vegas for a show, paid off for the team!

"Karla's Classy Pistol" improving from the last show, moving up a notch, taking reserve champion in the Open Hackamore. We're happy for her and her owner, Karla Chapin. We hope to give them continued success.

Newcomer, and last-minute entry, "The Stepchild" wound up reserve champion in the Open Bridle, and had a really good fence run. Owner, Jamie Bell has good things to look forward to with her new horse!

As always, "Catastrophic Cat" smoking a reining run and finds himself winning the Open Two-rein, adding to his lifetime earnings for owner, Beverly Rees.

We want to express a sincere thank you to each of these three owners, and to the owners of each horse we have in training. Some of which, we've never even met in person. It's very special to us to know how much trust they've placed in us and we do not take that for granted. Some of my clients have become some of my closest friends.

Las Vegas didn't disappoint this round. The debut run for two horses in their new events ended up worth the trip. "Karla's Classy Pistol"(Jerry and a Karla Chapin) placing 3rd and getting her first open hackamore check today. And "Catastrophic Cat" (Beverly Rees) winning the open two-rein! Snapping a picture of the team before unloading tonight for a deserved layover.

It's always been easy to load a trailer full of horses and just cruise for the day. I like it more during the evenings. Coming through Utah tonight it was nice to be serenaded with good music and left to my own thoughts and reflection. What a blessed life to have such a unique and rewarding career. Tim McGraw reminded me tonight how much I "Love the simple things."

Thank you to the Utah Reined Cow Horse Association for putting on such a clean-running show. The facility was great and the show was smooth. Fortunately for Catastrophic Cat, the ending was nice as well! Sealing the deal with a 74.5 reining in the Derby for the L.O. Derby championship on Saturday! Following up Sunday morning with the Open and Intermediate Open Hackamore championship! Again..... many thanks to owner Beverly Rees of Rees Family Belgians, Inc. and Legend Ranch Show Pads.

No action shots this time from the Magic Valley Reined Cow Horse Association. They did however put on a good show and we did do well! Catastrophic Cat came home with the LO Derby reserve champion slot and placed in the top 4 in the Open Hackamore, making checks in both events!

The highlight for me however, was being able to enjoy this trip with my girls. I'm on the road quite a bit, and more times than not, they don't get to go along with me. Between the shoulder rubs while driving down the road, hotel swimming pools, horse baths, naps, and waterfalls, we had a pretty good time. Hate to admit it, but on occasion I still tear up when I drop them off at the end... tonight was no different. They are my team, they are my support, they are my cheerleaders, they are my heart. I'm a lucky dad.

What a great way to finish at the Dave Grashuis Memorial Cowhorse Show in Nevada! Catastrophic Cat takes home the Open Hackamore championship, marking a 74 in the reining and a 74.5 down the fence! Not much more to say about this horse that hasn't already been said. We're grateful to have a horse like this in our barn and would love 10 more like him.

Otto kept us proud as well with his respectable run, marking a 72 and 71 in the Open Bridle. He's starting to dial in and become a little more consistent and confident.
