Randy is still at the shelter.
He can’t seem to find a fit. We’re really not sure why.

Randy is an 86 pound Bernese Mt Dog mix . Hes 2 years old and was surrendered as a “stray”.
This handsome boy is friendly and does not sit still . He will need someone to keep up with his exuberance and who is able to dedicate the time his former owner didn’t spend on training.
Puppy like behavior is cute when a puppy is 8 weeks old, left untrained without boundaries , that cute puppy becomes 86 pounds of dog.
He is eager to learn and treat motivated .

This boy would be a fantastic addition to a family with some structure .

Someone please give this boy a home. 🏡 he has been let down enough by the very first human who chose him as an 8 week old puppy and rehomed him to a second irresponsible human. He’s known nothing but being passed around to different families who didn’t properly care for him and now he’s in a kennel since February.
Please give him a chance .

Prescott is a 9 month old Retriever /pit mix.
Hes learning commands and is very treat motivated.
His tail never stops wagging and he’s a sweet boy in need of a forever home.

He will require guidance and puppy manners. He’s quite the looker and we would be happy to test him with other dogs.
No cats.

Please help give this boy a REAL Chance at a forever home. He has been failed by humans by being rehomed with people who weren’t willing to put the effort into his training.

He is now a much larger PUPPY and those cute puppy-like behaviors aren’t as easily tolerated.

Please consider the time that needs to be taken with acclimation and patience while he learns new skills.

He’s very deserving of a forever family and he certainly doesn’t deserve to grow up in a kennel .

Meet King, an 11-month-old Yorkie (12lbs) who had to be shaved and was surrendered by his owner. He was progressing well with potty training and is good with other dogs and children. However, he does chew. His previous owner, who purchased him from a pet store, lost interest in him. He now needs someone who can provide proper training and assure him that he will never be surrendered again.

Meet Ceasar. This 1.5-year-old sweetheart who is looking for a new home. He was found in an overnight pen, labeled as a stray, and sadly, no one has come looking for him. Shelter staff mention that he may be shy at first, but once he warms up, he's very affectionate. His past is unknown, so we're hoping to find someone with patience who is willing to help him overcome any negative behaviors he may have.

‼️WE ARE OUT OF KENNELS‼️. We are out of cages, offices, break rooms, closets and side rooms (that are supposed to be our adoption meeting areas. )
We don’t have a single corner of our shelter accessible to house a single additional animal .

We received 3 phone calls yesterday with owners attempting to surrender aggressive dogs, dogs that have bitten either other animals or humans.

We cannot provide the adequate training or care that these dogs need and living in kennels will only further escalate these behaviors.
We cannot pose the risk to our staff or the public by adopting them out in the future .

We are not a training facility . We have handlers who are very knowledgeable and skilled in order to navigate our dogs but they do not have the time or the resources available to work one on one with the kind of training a dog with behavioral issues needs.

When a stray comes into our facility with those backgrounds, our employees are at risk.

If the dog experiences kennel stress on top of that , this is a dog that will reside for a long period of time, maybe indefinitely in a kennel.

Please make better choices for your animals with behavior issues. If you cannot hire a trainer, if you are not able or unwilling to work with your own dog please don’t put that burden on the shelter system, our staff or the public.

Rehoming a dog without disclosing a bite history is not only irresponsible but against the law.

New laws regarding dangerous dogs were put into effect in Pa in February.
Please research it.

People wrongly assume that shelters are actively involved in training dogs in order to rehome them. Unfortunately we simply do not have the staff to provide that level of support, although we wish we did.

‼️Please stop getting dogs from Facebook and Craigslist that you have not researched . ‼️
We have been asked to take several dogs in the last few weeks from these situations that have been relocated back to Scranton from miles outside of the area.

Once home,the dogs are exhibiting bad behaviors and the original owners numbers are disconnected and they disappeared.

We cannot help in these situations.

Please use caution when meeting a stranger in a parking lot to exchange an animal .

We are also receiving calls from people who have purchased dogs from “reputable breeders “ locally .
These dogs are not as advertised and the breeder will not accept them back.

This is another situation that we cannot intake the animal .

Please don’t take in ANY ANIMAL that you are not prepared to MAKE PERMANENT. Friends, family , tenants, neighbors are abandoning their dogs with people they know , people they asked for temporary help.
They are leaving the animals and completely ignoring the calls to pick up their animal.

If you are helping someone in these situations, you are very likely going to be stuck with the animal. We are seeing this identical situation over and over again.

Think long and hard about “fostering for a friend” .

We are quite literally shouting from the rooftops . Make better choices for yourself and your animals.

Please don’t assume that shelters and rescues can help as they have been able to in the past.

We simply do not live in that world any longer .

Have a plan B, C,D and E …

There may be rescues and shelters in other states that are not in the position that we are and that may be a solution for rehoming but we are out of adequate recommendations ourselves .

This is a NATIONAL CRISIS 💔

Bullet is 12 years old. Owner surrendered back to us due to her living situation. He is 37 pounds and Heartworm Negative. He does not like rowdy dogs. He would do best as an only dog or with calm dogs that are happy just coexisting. He has lived with children and tolerated little ones well. He is good car rider and loves to be around people.
Per Foster Bullet can sit, shake and roll over. He is the sweetest dog and the only thing he wants to do is sit by his human
Cats foster has three as long as they don’t run Bullet won’t chase

Bullet is at Paws Humane and will be arriving on Thursday If he has a family waiting
